Everyone else with shorts and t shirts, and you with jackets is hilarious. In a good way, i guess us northern people are just more accustomed to the cold lol. Or maybe you shouldve had couple salmiakki shots to warm yourselves up.
Hahaha yes we are wimps, its okay! its like 39 degrees here in Houston right now with humidity ranging from 50-90%🥵 We like to wear our jackets when we can hehe
I remember being woken up by some frantic people at the campground at a summer festival here in Norway, decided to check on them. they were freaking out because they thought they were late for a concert and couldn't find anyone. took me 10 min to convince them it was 2am and not 2pm. the concert they wanted to see was in 12 hours and they thought I was pranking them!
In Rovaniemi, the sun stays above the horizon from early June to early July. The sun then stays above the horizon for about a month. When you go further north, the sun stays above the horizon longer. For example, in Nuorgam, which is Finland's northernmost village about 510km (317 miles) north of Rovaniemi, the sun stays above the horizon for about two and a half months, from mid-May to the end of July.
I found your videos today. It was wonderful. I like. And welcome to Finland also in winter. Then you will sleep better when the sun is not shining for more than a couple of hours. ❤
When I was in Nordkapp Camping, northern Norway about 10 years ago, I was wondering that where are all the people. I saw lot of camper vehicles and tents around me and nobody anywhere. Then I realized that it was something like 2 AM and the sun was shining quite high on the sky :D
Even after a few days in Rovaniemi I couldn't get used to 24hr daylight. And staying up at Ounasvaara which is almost 500ft higher than the city made it just that little brighter...
Oh wow that is interesting Yeah I (Jen) actually did not have much of a problem. I think that there was a light outside of my childhood bedroom window and I didnt have proper curtains there either 😂😂 So it felt pretty normal. But it definitely impacted Drew!
Remember that the time in Finland during summer is the summer time. This means, that at 24:00 the sun is at 23:00, so at twelve a clock it's not midnight.
I got confused by this comment, but I guess the point was that following the winter time shows you sun's location, so 24:00 in winter time is roughly the darkest time --> 23:00 at summer time is roughly the darkest time? Anyways I agree with Pasi that the darkest moment is somewhere after midnight.
@@Dostrain No no no! The normal time (winter time) is the time that goes along with the suns movements. Evidently the sun does not move, but let's say that it moves. This makes it easier to understand. At 24:00 summer time the sun has still one hour time to reach midnight. The sun is at midnight at 01:00 summer time (24:00 winter/normal time).
By definition, the Polar Circle is the place where there is one night every year, when the midpoint of the Sun doesn't go below the horizon. The closer the pole you are, the more there are such nights. Equally, on the polar circle, there is one day a year, when the midpoint of the Sun doesn't rise above the horizon. The Pole is the extreme. There the day is six months long and then comes the night of six months!
If you check from map, arktikum is next to wetlands that are in that river. Rovaniemi itself is surrounded by many wetlands and small bonds, so it's a mosquito heaven.
Found your Vlog while searching for Tangier day trip experiences. Really like your videos and I was so delighted to notice you are currently exploring my home country! Don't know your travel plans but I am hoping to see a video from Tampere coming up soon 😊
I live near Helsinki. i love kilpisjärvi. from there it's good to continue the trip to Norway, it's really easy, if you have time, you must see the Lofootit.@@JourneywithJenandDrew
@@JourneywithJenandDrew There you can take hike-walk to the Norway/Sweden/Finland tripoint it's in the middle of the lake but they have wooden trail going around the actual tripoint. You can walk from Finland to Norway and continue walking to Sweden... and all this in 5 seconds!
Rovaniemi is not a popular city and not a beautiful one either. but when you travel north of it you will come across many beautiful places. Lapland only starts after Rovaniemi. the best time to visit the north is the end of August and the beginning of September. there are few mosquitoes and beautiful autumn colors then

Walking in your winter clothes during the summer and saying that you are dipping in ice water just makes me smile. :D It's not that cold.
Yeah for us it was a little cold 😂😂
@@JourneywithJenandDrew I would probably suffer in the heat of Texas so who am I to judge. Love your vlogs :)
Thanks so much :)
@@Mojova1 If you are a finn, you'd miss the sauna in Taxas sun... =)

It's also attitude thing. If it is summer, you wear summer clothes. No matter the weather :D

HAHAHA this is such a good story 😂😂😂
Good that you got the authentic lapland experience: the mosquitoes. Those things are vicious, especiially when the sun is setting.
😆 They were quite vicious!

We would love to come back in winter 😊❤️ Thank you!
If you guys are coming again i would like to take you camping/hiking and fishing for a few days

It’s so crazy!! Such a cool experience though :)
@@JourneywithJenandDrew yep. And that place is 500 kilometers / 300 miles norther than Rovaniemi, so the sun is really high all the night in summer.
Go to Finnish Lappland in the winter and you will love it! The ice water dipping isn't so bad either when you got a hot sauna next to you :)
We would love to 😍 (at least me, jen!)
And some say you're more fertile under the Aurora Borealis... so they make sons then... =P
Subscribed because of the self-deprecating humour you are more finnish than you know.
😂😂 Greatest compliment

During daylight saving the sun is south at 13:00 and north at 01:00 (at the center of the timezone)...

Night time for 6 months?!?!? WOW… we could maybe do the day for 6 months but night? No way 😂
@@JourneywithJenandDrew And this is also how Finns feels about the light summer and the dark winters :D ;(

That makes sense :)
mosquito repellent is must have everywhere in Rovaniemi or Lapland where is water or bushes during certain parts of summer :D.
Yeah we realized that the hard way 😂 Next time we will be prepared!
1:50 Actually, the midnight is at approx. 01.00 am. Because of the daylight saving time.
How did you decide to take a walk-hike? But not the hike-walk?
teehee

Unfortunately we did not make it to Tampere on this trip :'( There is so much we missed!
Don't shower for a week. Yes, mosquitoes stay away =D
...or buy mosquito spray from the store.
😂😂😂 omg
good place to visit is kilpisjärvi.
It looks beautiful! So close to the border of Norway and Sweden.

Technically "safari" just means a trip to see wild animals. So arctic safari is what Safarctica offers, why I think it is a good enough name. 😏
Hehe yes, but all we hear is saFARTica as a native english speaker. or maybe as immature adults... either way 😂😂😂😂
Bro is talking about cold plunges like ice scwimming but it's the middle of summer xD
teehee
Never seen or heard of your videos before, but holy cow drew HAS to be twin brothers with patrick from funhaus? right? RIGHT??
😂😂😂 We had to look him up and I totally see the resemblance
Yeah... it would have been like a five minute walk to Arktikum from your Airbnb. Maybe then you could have actually seen the sun from Arktikum.🤣
Oops 😂😜
Walking in your nice winter jackets and the locals are hanging out in T shirt and shorts
Teehee at least we didnt get many mosquito bites
Artikum is Latin, not Finnish.
I don't speak that either :'(
Its a pity all old buildings in Rovaniemi are gone. During ww2 Germans burnt the whole place to the ground😢
😢😢
looking like mr beast in the thumbnail 😂 😂
😂😂 we hear this often
Not so much mosquitos in other parts of Finland.

Please say "bastu" and wink.
