  • On March 12, 1989 at 7:36 AM, a Southern Pacific trona train heading through Cajon Pass went into a runaway, flew off a curve near San Bernardino, and crashed violently into the houses along Duffy Street. The cause of this disaster is the fact that all the engines except for two of them had fatly/non-functioning dynamic brakes, as well as a fatal miscalculation in the tonnage of the train causing breaking down the gradient impossible. It has been over 35 years since this crash, and we hope that another train dosn't ram into Duffy Street of San Bernardino.
