I would never say I'm sick of gardening. Some months, like July and August, can be brutally hot, but I just do the minimum and dream of Fall! It's my favorite season! So sick of gardening? No way! Love it no matter what!🙂
@@jnerlee962 I had a poinsettia I bought 2 years ago for $1 after the holidays. It fell over and looked pretty haggard. I cut that thing back so far that there was basically 1 leaf per twig and it came back full and flush and beautiful!
Hi Linda, I feel better about my gardening attitude since watching this video . I live in Tucson Az. and as you can imagine gardening becomes more of a chore here during the middle of the summer. Sometimes I’m like “ what was I thinking “ 😃😂😂. Thank you so much for sharing your garden and home with us . 🥰
The professionalism is evident in your work Linda. I always tell you that you are strong with your thoughts and meticulous discipline at work. I love all of this about you regardless of your beauty👍🏻🧡.
Quite entertaining to watch the tough love pruning/summer hair cuts. Thank you, Stuart, for the "pretties", you wing it really well. I, too, like gravel harmony, all the same color - let the plants be the contrasts. Really enjoyed this free form video. 😉
Hi Linda! By this time I know exactly how you are feeling about the garden! I think a good hard prune is good for a plant.....when my hubs sees me with my hedge cutters he runs the other way because he knows I get like a crazy lady!!! LOL! However it always amazes him when the plant starts to fill out again!!! Have a great day and say hi to Stewart for me! :) PS: Your garden still looks beautiful!
Yes, Linda.. I'm glad to hear others get that tired feeling of gardening around August. I'm exciting when it turns to August because I can almost see and smell fall coming, then I burst with new energy and excitement. Love the video as always. LOVE the ensemble of the day... love, hugs, prayers.
I am tired of gardening. We were hit by a very bad hail storm. Hostas were shredded, so had to be trimmed way back. I replaced the pots on my deck as needed. The 2 flanking ironworks containers to my entryway I totally replaced. I tossed several baskets. I’ll just wait till the mums come out to spruce up the garden spaces outside my walkout. It’s disheartening! A new roof and siding are getting replaced as we speak. Good news , everyone is fine!🥰 Life is Good! 😊
Oh yes. Every season I get that way. I do little at a time and I'm good with that. Takes the stress levels down. Decided to do for evergreens in my gardens. I feel I will have less fuss with them. 🤞🤞🤞Your gardens still look beautiful as you are. 😊 Thank you always for sharing.
I don't get sick of gardening at this time. There is about 2 weeks the end of July up to the first week of August when everything that is going to bloom is pretty much showing off. This is the time for garden parties and late night yard sits when I can finally sit and enjoy my garden for about 2 weeks before I go into maintenance mode getting ready for fall and planning my changes for next year.
You may be sick of your garden but every time I see it I am just in awe at how gorgeous it is! I love that you give such inspiring ideas- I wouldn't have thought of turning my sage into a topiary! (too bad I just threw it in the garbage because it was so mangy looking- dang!) Love all your videos- THANK YOU LINDA!
Ok wasnt going yo plant c anymore but i lied! Planted today. Our humidity so much less today. Fun to be out in the garden. Put my patio peach tree in a bigger pot. Put sanew topiary in that pot. Found some plants on sale for 5.99 at Menards , couldn't pass up. Out all afternoon. Do pmeasantbout. Couldn't pass up this low humidity day. Never grew dahlias and i noticed some buds today. So exciting! Oh trimmed a couple of my topiaries, too. Thanks Linda for your inspiration. I'm getting tired of watering !
You look beautiful in your skirt...classic. Also so glad you said "tried of gardening this time of year" I just moved back to my home and it needs so much...plus I said I would have a garden tour last year... didn't plan on moving back. Crazy how life can change. I am still honoring my yes, great trees and each year they need to come here to see the changes. My budget has been very slim. I ll let you know and give pictures last week if August. Till then I am going to be getting ready. Coil weather is welcomed.
Linda, I'm with you on being tired of gardening. I think I worked so hard in the beginning then it got so hot. We're catching a break in temperatures this week, finally, but I don't want to do the tasks on my list. Maybe if we got a good all-day-soaker rainfall and things greened up I'd have renewed interest in gardening.
I love gardening in a skirt! So much cooler! I also get kind of burned out in late summer, your videos keep me going! Thank you for all the inspiration!
Here in Northern Idaho, zone 4-5, it’s been overly hot & smokey from fires all over, near & far. The vegetables are tasty though! Harvesting squashes, basil, carrots, peas are finished; and tomatoes are in the “eat as you water” stage! Only small flowering gardens this year as we’re redoing pathways and grassy yards ( seeding when it cools a bit). Sometimes our makeover projects take a loonnnggg time to happen 😝 Life is good!🌞😃🌻🌲
"Beloved gravel" cracked me up -But I get it; I'm a convert and love how it provides that clean echo in my rather disparate collection of pots. Zone 8 west of Seattle here, and not tired of the garden yet. I propagated several things this year -myrtle, hydrangea, dappled willow, euonymus - and tending the babies is keeping me going. Side note: When I'm discussing what needs to be done in the garden with my husband, I call him Stuart. He doesn't get it and I know Stuart's not your hubs, but it gives me joy ;)
I’m with you girl! The doldrums of summer make me grumpy. The heat and humidity get to me at times. I’m finding some good books while thrifting and am settling in for a good read. Stay cool and blessings from Raleigh!
... I admit to getting in a little funk around this time every year... I'm a slave to the garden hose... My borders are beautiful, with this backdrop of brown crunch for a lawn... I will not allow myself to water it lest the water meter spins already with flower upkeep...😰👩🌾💚🏵️🌸 =^..^=
I moved to a smaller, older house with a bigger yard. All my plant starts that i brought with me are in pots. i am sick of watering them and will be glad when it cools a little so i can start planting them.
Everyone that I know that is a gardener, has the same problem. When it gets hot and most of the things have stopped blooming at least temporarily. I went to Florida for my son's wedding last week and I brought back on the plane a couple of tropical plants that I cannot find around here. So I did have to pot those up There was another lady doing the same thing, we just laughed at each other. But it's so hot and humid outside, I really don't enjoy it. I have to do it real early in the morning like about 6:00. And also I have to water things because there's less rain coming down at this time of the year. It's good to know that I'm not the only one out there that feels this way. One thing I did a couple weeks ago, I had two of those lime green shrubs. They must be hardy where you live but not where I live. I tried to overwinter them, only the tops stayed green and the bottoms went brown so I turned them into a one ball topiary. Just couldn't bring myself to throw them away. We'll see how they do as a topiary. If they don't live through the winter, I'll just throw them out.
Linda, I had this year a tough season ... It was much colder than usual in May ..caused a big delay ..also...end of June begin July an abnormal raining period ... It was a blessing for the trees etc. But I can say I had to start all over again second week of July ... removing everything was moldy and brown ... It was tough ...but I cant say I m sick of gardening ... I m sick of ignorance of climate change. If we would have a less strange climate ... It would be easier for our plants to grow and we gardeners would have less to worry about ..so we wouldnt get sick if gardening. Dont you think so... Nevertheless ... sending you courage and green energy to tackle all the garden tasks ... Your garden keeps you busy ...and young. Kind regards, Marcus
Yep! When the temps hit high 90’s with humidity in feels like 100+ I become a house “plant”! And Kansas in a heat warning the last few days…..thunderstorms tonight hopefully! Love watching you do the topiaries! And I’m ordering an Oakleaf hydrangea! Thanks for all your tips
Hello Linda I'm in Southern AZ and so summer is a long time a lot longer. I grow hibiscus gardenia and roses. I find that until November or December it really can be harder because the heat is so intense. But the flowers still bloom and it's still about the pretty almost all year here.
Good on you for saving the plant. I am in British Columbia, Canada and having a really hard time keeping my garden growing. We have fires, smoke and no rain in 6 weeks or so. The temperatures are way above average so some of my perennials are struggling and so stressed, dropping leaves. I am not sure they will make it through our winter. Sometimes I I have to water twice a day. We are supposed to be a zone 5+. Cheers.
Yes. I get sick of gardening in the heat of Georgia summers. I was thinking yesterday- I really love Spring & Fall. I am coming to appreciate Winter to knock back the overgrowth of summer. I can’t stand mosquitoes & flies & stink bugs.
It was sooo pretty before you gave it the tough love. ❤️ But I’m going to give my Rose of Sharon standard some tough love very soon, so thanks for leading me on!! 🌸
Love learning pruning techniques and this was a great video🪴This time of year my zone 8b garden is in survival mode as well as the gardener😅 I do enjoy a little back porch gardening under the ceiling fan though…planted 10 Chuck Heyes gardenia starts I had been rooting in water and transferred my Trailing Rosemary to the ledge of the porch in hopes they would cascade🌿🌿🌿Great summer outfit Linda💚
... I'm getting burnt out keeping up with watering each evening after the sun goes down... I will continue to be faithful because everything is beautiful and I don't want it to die. I also replenish each evening fresh water in bird baths (I'm pretty adamant about that to keep my birds healthy, and I have about 5 or 6 of them throughout my garden)... Just a drop in daily temps down to the high 80s will give me a little boost and pick me up but we've got to get through August first before that happens routinely. 😰👩🌾💚 Cindy in Maryland (zone 6) =^..^=
My Texas Sages are due for a trim and they benefit from it. They survive fine in our area in Central Texas and can get very big if not pruned. Hadn’t thought about cutting into topiary shapes as mine are in the ground, so thanks for the lesson. I had some mealy bugs on some other plants and cut off the affected parts just yesterday. Mostly sick of watering every morning and checking plants for bugs and worms.
This year I have really enjoyed planting new things. I think it’s coming out of lockdown and wanting to see things live and grow! I’m in Zone 6B and we’re having nice weather. Hot but not oppressive. I love your earrings, I’ve gotten a few pair myself-my new favorites!
Actually I don’t like summer to end, although fall is my favourite season. Summer ending means winter is around the corner and our zone 3 winters aren’t very pleasant, long and cold. But in areas where summer seams long I can understand getting weary of it. Great video!🇨🇦
I do get a little sick of gardening but for me it is Feb.I live on the east coast of the north island N.Z. By Feb we are on “ No Hose “ water restrictions and I have to watch my garden gasping for much needed rain , I hate Feb, it is my month from hell
Just a minute into the video... and YES. Sick of what used to be so much fun, and good for me. It is too hot, humid, icky, and just plain "work". (Although today it has been very nice and not so hot). I bought a book called The Right Size Flower Garden, to get info about downsizing, because, as a new gardener, I created a monster. It was all BEAUTIFUL in Spring, but trying to get everybody watered is a nightmare, not to mention the tobacco caterpillars on the tomato plants, after all that hard work. I only have two tomato plants, so it's not like a bumper crop. Everything else is a wide variety of annuals and perennials. I am now on a mission to replace what I can with NATIVES. :)
Great video, Linda. I garden in zone 6A, northeastern PA and just pruned out containers that were damaged in a storm and by lack of water due to a hornets nest close by. I love watching your videos because of the different varieties of plants you grow. I also have a home in north central FL 9A and I will need to learn how to garden there soon. I’m going to read up on Texas sage.
It's so hot and dry here. I water a few things, but have decided if some of them die, so be it. We have hard clay dirt and the water doesn't even soak I to the soil. Can't afford a drip system. The hot sun dries out my potted plants within about 6 hours. Watering so.e of those 2 times a day.
It's been quite dry here in NE Ohio, so I've been watering more this past week than any other time this year. Although we've had some days with high humidity, high temperatures have been in the 70s or 80s, so it hasn't been unbearable, especially in the morning or evening when I water. I've mostly been hand watering, but did get the hoses out one morning.
Anyone else starting to notice the days slowly getting shorter? I definitely notice it's getting darker earlier in the evening. That's what I like least about the waning days of summer, thinking of the gradual decline in the hours of sunlight each day.
Yes indeed you were brutal, but that plant will come out beautiful. Was anyone else saying "lose it" when Linda asked Stewart? Looking forward to seeing the final reward growth. Love your skirt and yes I was a bit surprised to see you wear one. Looks great with the white t-shirt. Love from sunny Sydney, Australia.
Yes. Sick of this and can’t wait for Fall planting. I love doing large pots of darker fall colors with grasses and crotons. Mounds of pumpkins and gourds. Lanterns You know the drill. Then we go to FL and start all over with the perennials and annuals 🤣
Linda I just bought two Texas sages as they are native to my zone 8a and North Texas. Excited to know that as they grow I can think about shaping them into topiaries. Question from a beginner gardener - why the fish fertilizer?
I wouldn't call it sick just burnout from having to do maintenance upkeep in anticipation for the following season to come. For me hard cut back is actually cut off especially if diseased & woody and showing new growth.
Sick of Japanese beetles, Sick of spottted lantern-fly,. Sick of cicadas.. and now, New Jersey is experiencing tornadoes! Only a half mile from me! Time to watch the olympics. It’s August first. I guess we should stop whining and enjoy what summer we have left:).
Absolutely love your channel and appreciate the information you share with trial by error gardeners. I to am a self taught gardener for more years that a girl wants to own up to ;) zone 8b. I have two questions that you may have already answered. 1. When I bring some plants in for the winter, I invariably without a formal RSVP have little insects make their selves at home. How do you prevent this? 2 Have you ever had ants invade a potted plant? I have had a geranium on my porch which has performed beautifully until yesterday. It looked horrible. I dumped a ton of water on it thinking it was unusually dry and then ants flooded the plant, pot and sidewalk. It’s on a dripped system. I used an organic insecticide and hopefully the plant will thrive. What would you have done?
Just trying to get all my clearance plants potted or in the ground. Hard to work outside in the heat and humidity. Some plants not doing well with all the rain and getting black spot, kind of discouraging.
Sick of gardening? Absolutely…humidity, mosquitoes, powdery mildew…. Have 3 echinaceas I got on sale a few weeks ago that may die due to my procrastination in getting planted! 🤣
Would this work for oleander topiaries? Mine have gotten very leggy. They’re not diseased. I never have pruned them because I’m never sure when to do it.
I am DEFINITELY getting sick of gardening. The Japanese beetles are out of control and it’s so hot and humid. I still need to plant some potted items but I feel like I’m gonna die of heat stroke
This time of year is kind of boring in the garden for me. The excitement of seeing new plants emerge and transplanting are done with and it’s just maintenance mode and that’s my least favorite task especially when my plants don’t look too healthy. Makes me 😞
Linda, my husband and I bought our house in January, and inherited over 200 camilla trees. The previous owners took no care of the two-ish acres we are on. I have had to show these trees some serious tough love as they were covered in pine needles from the 20 pine trees we had removed. Ugh. The backyard was a jungle. Mostly taken care of but lots more to do! 🥵 Can I clone you? 💕
Water all the plants and the flower beds look so bad. I cleaned out two flower beds yesterday. I decided I'm not s fan of Iris flower. The flower don't last long and they are alot of work to clean out.
Linda I watch you every day. I look forward to all of your information so I can have a beautiful yard.. Thank you
Yes Linda I am sick of this heat! The lawn is killing me especially.
I would never say I'm sick of gardening. Some months, like July and August, can be brutally hot, but I just do the minimum and dream of Fall! It's my favorite season! So sick of gardening? No way! Love it no matter what!🙂
Sometimes a hard prune is exactly what a plant needs to be more beautiful than ever!
Yes so true. Did our Magnolia and it was a hard prune at the top. I have never seen that tree so thick and plush . We did 🤞🤞🤞🤞
@@jnerlee962 I had a poinsettia I bought 2 years ago for $1 after the holidays. It fell over and looked pretty haggard. I cut that thing back so far that there was basically 1 leaf per twig and it came back full and flush and beautiful!
We don't go outside after 9 am... it's just too hot! So watering is as much gardening I want to do this time of year. 😜
I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way, I get that 2 x❤💖😎

Quite entertaining to watch the tough love pruning/summer hair cuts. Thank you, Stuart, for the "pretties", you wing it really well. I, too, like gravel harmony, all the same color - let the plants be the contrasts. Really enjoyed this free form video. 😉
The plants are tired and so am I!
About all I can manage these hot, humid days is watering to make sure things don't die!

Hard prune, yes! My hubs calls me the happy hacker, but we know it makes the plants happy too (eventually).

Love hearing your Kites. Beware you cicadas
Linda
I just bought two Texas sages as they are native to my zone 8a and North Texas. Excited to know that as they grow I can think about shaping them into topiaries. Question from a beginner gardener - why the fish fertilizer?
So glad to hear people admit what I think -- by August I'm damn TIRED of gardening.
I wouldn't call it sick just burnout from having to do maintenance upkeep in anticipation for the following season to come. For me hard cut back is actually cut off especially if diseased & woody and showing new growth.
Can’t wait for fall!
I feel the same way, too hot in San Antonio.
I’m on your page!
Same
😳 I chopped my lavender topiary yesterday. It was either that or the compost pile.
OMG! Mommy Dearest!
Спасибо 🙏
In AZ I can't become tired because the plants will die if I do.
Great video ur hair looks 😊 good Are u going to wear it up for wedding? It would be beautiful 😀
Sick of gardening? Absolutely…humidity, mosquitoes, powdery mildew…. Have 3 echinaceas I got on sale a few weeks ago that may die due to my procrastination in getting planted! 🤣
What kind of grass do you have ? It is so green and super short. I love it ❤️
Yes I am a bit tired of gardening at this point.
I trimmed my box woods in spring, zone 7. When is best time to trim them between now and fall?
cut out a lot of those little tigs and all twigs growing toward the center
Yes..... things not looking great -I'm near Boise. So hot. Boxwoods have yellow leaves. Keep thinking of mums....
Would this work for oleander topiaries? Mine have gotten very leggy. They’re not diseased. I never have pruned them because I’m never sure when to do it.
I bet it would. You might Google it. I would also make sure they’re getting enough light :-)
@@LindaVater thank you so much!
Makes me 😞
So, how long before you develop a garden roomba for your garden carpet?
Hi Linda may I know what kind of barberry plants you have in your garden ?
You look a little unhinged in that thumbnail. LOL
I was!!
Yes I hate this heat!!! Not fun😿
Water all the plants and the flower beds look so bad. I cleaned out two flower beds yesterday. I decided I'm not s fan of Iris flower. The flower don't last long and they are alot of work to clean out.
Yup!
Names of both pruners again?
Yes I'm hot and eaten with mosquitos and drowning in little weeds. Horrible.
