Great memories here, Remember Tjiwangi and Tjiluwah coming to Melbourne on their regular runs. Beautiful looking ships especially when they were painted white. Thank you for posting these graet films. When ships looked like ships.
thanks Michael, your other clips are precious too ! I am writing a book based on my grandfather's life, and these clips have given me a better idea the life on the ships. i especially like the one on the neptune ceremony.
I remember working the two sister ships in the sixties, on HF CW radio, from Awaruaradio/ZLB. I didn't know much about the ships themselves. Thanks for the video clip.
Glad to hear that my clips evoke such feelings. I have no clip of Pladju, but of other parts of Sumatra I have: ua-cam.com/video/N1EMbU2Eqxs/v-deo.html
@Fritstube1065 .
my grandfather worked with RIL in the 50s. i believed he was on Nieuw Hollande, and then Tjijuwah. thanks for this clip, that i could ahve a better glimpse of what it was like then.
I suppose that your grandfather worked on the ss Nieuw Holland and the Tjiluwah. I have many more clips on life on RIL ships (except the ones your grandfather worked on) . Search UA-cam with 'michael rogge ril freighter' .
amongst the broken and dent warships stood one general purpose naval ship. Her name was RMN "Langkawi" if I am wrong please correct me. Actually there were 2 ships of similar appearance. "Langkawi and Raja Jarom"
By gone times of beautiful ships never to come again.those were the days of seamen life.i was a seamen myself had girls in several ports drank smoked had fun.until they started hiring cheap seamen from the philippines which got cheap wages and messed up seamen jobs around thr world for rest of sailors.half a million waiting to join ships on manila.ahoi.
