- In honor of the 24th anniversary of the Soviet Union's collapse, our guest this weekend is our old friend Dr. Yuri Maltsez, a senior fellow here at the Mises Institute and a professor of Economics at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Yuri is famous for having been a Soviet economist during the Gorbachev era and defecting to the United States.
Yuri and Jeff discuss Trump-ism, the Bernie Sanders phenomenon, and Western progressives' silly and enduring love affair with socialism. They also discuss what the often-misused terms 'socialism' and 'fascism' really mean.
One of the best characterizations of Socialism I have ever heard. Perfect.
+Jimmy Cooper Do you? Yuri Maltsev compared it to National Socialism (in case you dont know thats the socialism Hitler implimmented). Do you have any idea at all why he called Bernie Sanders a National Socialist and not just a socialist? And any idea why thats so bad for the economy? One might even call it a vampire economy if you get me.
love this guy!
Radio host, please study the economic situation of my country Norway better. You would find "socialism" works here because we are capitalist, the stuff that doesnt work is our collective institutions such as hospitals, directorate of unemployment and senior care.
Earthworm Jim he is playing devil's advocate
+Earthworm Jim Your comment errs by saying "socialism works." Mr. Maltsev: "What is socialism? Socialism is government---government ownership." (04:35) Those aspects of Norway's economy which are directed by government, under this definition, are "socialist," and the rest capitalist. And, as you say, Norway's collective (i.e. socialist) institutions don't work. Indeed, socialism doesn't work---anywhere---ever.
No, in Norway you have a small number of people sitting on massive oil and gas deposits. Although Norway has created a sovereign fund to provide for the future only last year when there was a small downturn in the economy politicians immediately dipped into the sovereign fund instead of responsibly cutting spend. In the end politicians will squander the accumulated capital on vote buying and utopian schemes. At this time Norway is only a lottery winner in the stage of extravagance before falling into poverty.
*You would find "socialism" works here because we are capitalist*
Dude what?
@@fubaralakbar6800 Lol socialism only works when it's being supported by capitalism.
"Soviet Union was the village idiot" LOL
Population sizes: Iceland = 364,134. Denmark = 5.603 million. Norway = 5.368 million. Sweden = 10.23 million. Finland = 5.518 million. They are culturally and ethnically homogeneous. They are high trust societies. They can agree and the citizens watch each other's backs. The USA has all the disadvantages those places lack. USA = 320+ million. I suspect the problems lies in the numbers and circumstances of our cultural make-up.
"But where would you get all the Swedes?" Lovely!
I wonder if his opinion of Trump has changed in the past two years.
Probably not
He was wrong about Trump.
Mises founded Mont Pelerin, a Club of Rome organization. A conspiracy fact.
켘 ˁ ̊̅ ل͢ ̊̅ ˀ 🇺🇸 ♠ = ♠
Boy he really got Trump wrong. Perhaps he should have lead off with 'I don't know much about Trump or his ideas but...' ?
Nah, he still correct. I call it "Socialism of the Right".
@@DanielSantos-cr5sxwe need socialism of the right to stop the capitalism of the left. That is reality.
So which cult will win in November?
It's crazy that these professors and intellectuals who are so-called conservatives and Defenders of Freedom couldn't see what the rest of us all with Trump and how wrong that professor and intellectuals are and to this day have yet to admit they are wrong
Belike Water Still think foreign policy is bad after the North Korea summit? Also somewhat ironic you complain about "enslavement" to Israel, but use the Hebrew word messiah.
Nah, Trump is just implementing the "Socialism of the Right". And the consequence will be harsh soon (world economic crisis)
@@DanielSantos-cr5sx Socialism of the right? You mean like restoring the government to its proper role? People are working again. Their wages are going up. Companies can afford to give them full benefits and flexible hours again. Everyone is prospering from Trump's policies. If anyone sabotages the economy, it will be the Fed. As for the rest of the world, well, if they can't get away with running their scams on us anymore and we stop paying for all their insanity, then of course their economies will take a downturn. But so what?
We need socialism of the right to stop the capitalism of the left. Billionaires love socialism. That is reality.
of course he knows about socialism cause from Russia but capitalism is enigma for him and Trump ? well . too bad . :))) maybe he should do another video soon .
I wish he would have left Trump out of it, I am so sick of politicians. We the people need to stop relying on the government to give us our rights and justice. That fairy tale is completely insane.
Мужицкая смекалках.
Wait, Trumpism already end of 2015?
Haha, great.
Capitalism: capitalist owns US$127 billions while the worker are underpayed
Why haven't the unions negotiated for shares in the companies? Could it be they don't want the risk and responsibility?
