    Repair prices are crazy high too. As someone who prefers to work on my own vehicles, sometimes I will just send it to a shop because I don't have time sometimes. I just had my car looked at because the alignment was way off, already knowing it would need new shocks and probably bushings. The shop quoted me $3500 on a car I could buy used for about $4k similar to mine. Of course I looked up all the parts and got them ordered for $250, and be limited on time will take me a few weeks of picking at it to get it done. But at least I'm capable of it. People out there with no mechanical abilities are screwed.

    I’m in Canada - I don’t see these “crashes” frankly - I’ve seen a LITTLE less lunacy, but a 2018 BMW 340i is still going for around $40,000 w 80,000km on average when new they were around $60,000 new. There is no shortage anymore. 2024s are readily available. I don’t understand why with this economy, the fact nobody is buying, and vehicles readily available these aren’t $25,000. It’s a 6 year old BMW, nothing special. Make it make sense. (That’s just a car I’m looking at personally, but this goes across the board)

    • @markholubetz
      @markholubetz  3 дні тому +2

      You are right and generally Canadian market is especially idiotic in lower numbers of quality vehicles command the $$ as the dealers “know what they have” and there are vehicles getting picked up by Americans, thus reducing the numbers and driving up the cost of supply and demand. It’s all artificial here in Canada, and it’s still a bubble that needs to Pop. I agree with you, conventionally almost all BmWs regardless of engine or style would lose 50-55% in 5 years so this being 6 years should go for closer to 30k. Nothing more

    The manufacturers are not in a major panic yet. The dealers have almost maxed themselves out. So the next phase is OEM pain. That will take 10-18 months. When things start to collide - economy and OEM pain, job losses etc. Then this may unravel. But it will be to late. Yes, I drove junk for years, but I saved big. I understand having a mortgage, as it is hard to pay rent and save enough for even a cheap house. But if you are giving the banks 25% of your take home check, you will have a hard time getting ahead. Inflation is kickin everyone's butt, so it is harder to get by and save at the same time, but you can do it. You have to if you ever want to retire.

So we're forced to reward this type of behavior by saving the automotive industry cause it's "too big to fail"..

      I do agree and the dealers have mastered the art in extracting more and more cash from your wallet

    I work for a independent dealership. We don not and have not sold over MSRP. Cant say the same for some other places near me, especially the ones owned by Lithia. The problem is not the dealership, its the manufacturers. Dealerships hands are tied on price until the manufacturers give them cash for incentives. And that money is not unlimited, its per dealership and when it runs out, they cannot offer a discount. The truth is we really do not make that much off new vehicles. Sometimes Nothing. Used cars, service contracts and F&I is where the money is made at a dealership. So please stop blaming dealerships, its not always them. Sure the ones gouging, putting markups, yeah, those guys should be avoided. Find a smaller dealership that actually cares about about customer service. My dealership is second in volume in my region and has 4.8 stars on google for a reason. We dont lie, steal, cheat. Do your research.

      Unfortunately the honest dealers now are increasingly becoming a minority. They face almost no actual consequence for their shady BS so it's a low risk high reward thing. In some cities they might be the only dealer of a particular brand too so they know most people can't easily go elsewhere

    Most of these 'car prices emergency' videos keep saying the same thing with different click bait headlines. I've heard the first 10-15 minutes of this content 5 times or more. Please do some more research, we want to learn something new.

    Of course the EVs are selling better, they have 9k factory incentives on them and front loading for lease special payments half of the price of an equal gas version of the same thing. Literally half payments in many cases. So lease it three years and turn in who cares if unreliable and expensive down the road. No sh1t theyre gnna sell faster than everything thats overpriced 20 plus thousand dollars w much, much higher interest or lease payments in most cases.

    But, based on you, CQA Live (new name?) and others, y’all been showing us cars and trucks on dealers floor plans for one or two years. So which is it, they’re selling new cars, business as usual, or they’re sitting on lots???? I’m confused!

    • @markholubetz

      Lots are filling and become overflowing with prices still all over the map which means buyers are selective, getting some incentives and so some are buying and others are not
