I really appreciate the time it took and all your great advice to make this video. This is not something I would ever attempt to do myself but it helps so much to be informed of the process. I have 2 -2007 Dodge Grand Caravans because I love them so much and will be having this done soon.

There are inexpensive replacement transmission pans with a drain plug built in so you don't have to go through the mess of dropping the pan every time you just want to drain and replace the fluid.

Great video, because I messed up my first time, expecting the last person took off the pan, and filter like they cared. I ended up with three stripped bolt holes.. and it wasn't even leaking, but it was dark, and slightly overfilled, big mistake, now I'm going to be forced to drive it 1200 miles, before I can truly fix it once and for all.

The hot and cold marks are when the vehicle is running! Cold is for when running and not driven to operating temp and hot is after u have driven it a bit and engine oil and coolant Temps are at your usual operating temperature. Checking a trans dip stick with the vehicle off is only going to tell u if u have some sort of fluid in the system it is very inaccurate to check and go off of said readings with the car off. Same with when u fill the system. Fill it with the amount u drained firstly. Let the car run and idle a few minutes with foot on brake in gear. Then cycle through all the gears from park to reverse to drive to 1 to reverse to drive to park to reverse to drive blah blah u get it. Do that a few times then go check the level, add as needed and cycle gears again. Repeat that process until the level stays at the full hot mark and ur good to go. Failure to cycle through the gears and obtain a proper fluid level HOT and u will burn that trans up in no time!

The filter may come loose, but it will not fall out into your pan. There is bumps molded on the filter that correspond to bumps molded into the pan to hold it in place.

A new pan with a drain plug is available on Amazon for under $20. Dorman 265-801 is the order number. I did it and it works great!

To avoid doing multiple drains another alternative is to disconnect the transmission oil return line. Then, run the car. AS the oil is being pumped add the same amount of fluid that is coming out. The car will pump the oil for you from the TC and cooler.

Thank you for the informative video. I have a Dodge Grand Caravan 2003. The van needs the transmission fluid change and filter. The video will be very helpful. My van also needs the lower control arms. Do you know where I can buy from or if you recommend a brand. I will appreciate your advise. Thank you.

Can you mix full synthetic trans fluid with standard fluid?

Would you recommend doing this service on a caravan that has about 150,000 miles. I do not know if the previous owner took care of this. Or should be this just left alone and hope for the best. Kind regards.

You know, it's a pretty easy process. It's not a bad idea to do it on a car with that many miles. However, others will tell you if your not having issues, why do it?
I did it to all my vehicles just to see what came out, and every vehicle had at least a bit of some debris, including our SUV that has 47,000.

How many miles were on your Caravan when you did this? I just bought an '07 with 101k miles and will be doing this process soon. I checked my fluid and it does not look too dark.

I had about 115k when I did it. If it's not too dark, or sludgy dont worry about it.
In my opinion, if it's too clean it can cause the transmission to slip because it doesn't have the grit. But that's just my opinion.
