While I am a Dark Angels fan, Titus was a fantastic hero for the first Space Marine game. It was a shame that the Inquisition was called in to question his loyalty due to his exposure to the warp. I admire the character and the story was so well written. The paint job looks great on him.
Caledor Sky is definitely the sort of hue I had in mind when the Horus Heresy books mention the bright clean cobalt-blue of the Ultramarines. Looks great!
Fantastic paint job and well timed too! My copy of the game should be here tomorrow. Personally I prefer a darker blue but he does look phenomenal your way. Take care Andy.
The stark contrast between the shading and bright blue makes him look cel shaded, nice work! Regarding the face, I think starting with a bright white basecoat would help brighten his face up, I've found gulliman flesh loves pure white. And I was confused by what you said about the head position, I had to look up the model- WHY is he looking forward?! Definitely looks better with your modification! And much closer to the reference art... (I don't want to bad mouth someone's hard work but I feel they didn't do a great job capturing his pose or armour details...eg rivets along the pauldrons, chainsword is in the opposite hand to the game's promotional art etc. I guess they started with a normal primaris sculpt and modified it, or they were given art that was changed later)
I was able to get ahold of the box the other day and painted up Titus using this method and I have to say I was blown away with the results. Absolutely stunning. I love using the Calder Sky layer. Thank you so much for this guide
The red halo is actually the battle honour of the Iron Halo. While Iron Halo is a wargear piece that all captains wear with a built in force field, the honour marking Iron Halo is often awarded to those who have had long and excellent service.
Caledor Sky is always the right choice, Ultramarines are not meant to be dark. They did say Titus would get a release here but I may be in states before that happens so might pick him up there.
Not gonna lie, only reason I picked up the board game was for the minis. My wife always needs more Nids, and I wanted Titus for conversion reasons. Still looking for a model to use for said conversions. Probably the new jump captain because that pose is causes me pain when I look at it. Awesome paintjob, btw
The repose really helps the mini not feel like he's not slipped on a banana peel. Still think the pose wasn't a great concept though - A understand its a reference to the original cover art but it really deserved a better base to not look as naff
I think it was supposed to get a jump pack, but they couldn't predict how it would line up with the new assault intersessors. The box game is probably not in the same manufacturing timeline or using the same production facility... Mine is definitely getting a new jump pack for a assualt captain proxy.
As you should, if your little plastic army men make you happy then that is all that matters, I probably wouldn't make an Ultramarine army but if I did I would likely want to go a shade or two darker. Or try something wacky like a metallic grayscale under pain job with layered with semi transparent blue enamel. Or something equally strange.
Is there a paint list? I would love to see the list of paints used. I've loved the 2011 PS3 Space Marine game. Played through probably more than 5 times.
If you're interested, check out Ground Effected's Ultramarines. He's got an amazingly beautiful and easy blue for them. Truly gorgeous and deep, also has this multilayered (porcelain) style feel. Also he's got a flamer Landraider (actual flamer) and a hovering Gladiator and an Ork buggy. :) Really worth seeing. I'll get Titus' model when it's launched here in Europe. It's a timed exclusive. I need to get Ventris and the new Command Squad. Even if the squad is painted in the Second Company colours (gold), they're actually based on the Swords of Calth company command (4th Company, green trim ala Ventris). I will have an Ultramarines army too, 4th company... You know, the best. Gods killed so far: 1, daemonculabas killed so far: all, Honsous beaten so far: 2, Daemonprinces destroyed and not coming back so far: 1...
Very cool man, love how he turned out. He's been one of my favorite characters and i hope they release him separate some time soon. The result after the nuln oil, and before you started the layering, looked great for a night lords color scheme hehe, i think i am going to test that out on a chaos space marine, so double thanks for this video 😉
@@acl7295 you need a really solid coat to make sure contarys sticks properly. Sometimes the grey isn’t enough and the model becomes hydrophobic and the it’s a nightmare.
Hey I’m a really big fan of the Caledor Sky recipe! When I tried this it came out a bit darker. Do you do anything to the Caledor sky to make it lighter? Thank you so much and really appreciate you help!
I didn’t do anything else, it’s just straight from the pot. Sometimes it’s a matter of shaking it fully? Or maybe a second coat of the previous layer is showing up to much?
I'm def getting him. I'm going to just use the head and the unique shoulder. Going to throw it on my Gravis Captain kuz he will always be CAPTAIN Titus to me
I feel like this is really just begging for a new Jump pack. I wonder why it's not here. Feels like a last second change they made due to release dates of new jumpy boys...

It really was. But at least now we have this beast.
Merry Sue in power armour. Fantastic hero, yeah, whatever
Caledor Sky is definitely the sort of hue I had in mind when the Horus Heresy books mention the bright clean cobalt-blue of the Ultramarines. Looks great!
aw cool! Glad you like it!
Shoulder pad marking feels like combo of the regular "Command" badge (just a skull), "Iron Halo" honours and some scroll work underneath.
I think I've seen the markings before on a mini, also doesn't he wear that in the first game also?
Ye perhaps. I’ve just never painted one before.
Skull and halo are markings of a lieutenant for Ultramarines. Great paint job.
Fantastic paint job and well timed too! My copy of the game should be here tomorrow. Personally I prefer a darker blue but he does look phenomenal your way. Take care Andy.
Enjoy it pal. It’s a great model.

Ye I agree. But I’m still glad I got my hands on him and got him painted. A lot of people want to see him with a jump pack.
I was able to get ahold of the box the other day and painted up Titus using this method and I have to say I was blown away with the results. Absolutely stunning. I love using the Calder Sky layer. Thank you so much for this guide
Love hearing that, thanks so much for coming back to tell me! Glad you found the video helpful!
GW did a fantastic job bringing titus to the gaming table
Agreed I love him.
looks like a cool Ultramarine to me really nice blue reminds me of the blue they were when i started in the hobby back in the 90's
And the blue they should have stayed as.
Still not convinced on the posing but I can't argue with that paintjob. Nice work :)
Cheers pal.
Great work as always. Just went and picked up the box today at target.
Nice pal. Hope you enjoy it.
Love using Caldor Sky. Such a great color and fits for the more classical 2nd edition look to them
I agree 100%
just short,................I love it.
greetings to you.
Thank you :)
@@MediocreHobbies can I just dry brush gray seer because I don’t have the same primer. I use a lot of primer from Home Depot.
The shoulder pad isbjust the lieutenant marking
I’ve never painted one before. Interesting.
I just picked up, an introduction to 40k just for the two minis included, the space marine figure was awsome ideal for Salamanders, slung flamer
They really are great models.
Really love this color set…but so afraid to get this wrong, might try this on assult intercessor first
That’s a good idea! But always remember it’s only paint, and you can’t mess it up that badly 😄
Macragge blue is a spray too.
Forgot to add context to this, you mentioned that contrast was the easiest way to apply blue.
It is indeed.
As Canadian it sucks that can’t get this miniature😩 As always I appreciate your pain jobs👍🏽
Can you not buy from target online?
@@chadrickvon9383 Nope, Target pulled out of Canada a while ago.
There are a few comments that mite help with this.
Ship7. Check that out...
I second the request for more media tie-in models. An Angels Of Death kill-team for Blood Angels would be pretty great.
Not a bad idea at all.
Excellent work, hopefully we can get the model soon
Ye I hope more people can get him soon.
I really like the Calador Sky!
yeah i think it works well!
this vid ablut to blow up as WH stores selling Titus. got mine yesterday can't wait to paint like yours
That’s great to hear, yeah I’m so glad it’s available properly again for now!
also hope i can use him as an ally with space wolves
also caldor sky is amazing for UM blue color will be using it in future ❤

Looks good as usual Andy 👍🏻
I like your choice of blue- it gives it a more graphic novel/superman like quality.
Ye that’s why I love it. Glad you see it the same way.
Caledor Sky is always the right choice, Ultramarines are not meant to be dark. They did say Titus would get a release here but I may be in states before that happens so might pick him up there.
You for sure should if you get the chance
Live in the states and grabbed the box set from target today. Not much of a space marine fan, but this just looked too fun 😜.
Lucky duck.
Awesome job Andy!

Ye a jump pack would for sure add something to the model.
I feel like maybe a 1:1 mix of ultramarine blue and caldor sky would have been a good layer color.
Perhaps yes. I love the colour I’ve got here and will probably continue my ultramarines like This.

What kind of brushes do you use and
Could I also ask is there any reason to do a black prime and then grey? Wouldn’t grey cover everything anyway? Or you try to do zenithal?

How did you get a copy of the game? Excellent paintjob!
check the video from the day before!
Why is that Assault Intercessor on a 40mm base?
😄
Can he be used in other marine chapters as a character or is there to much ultra marines icons on his miniature?
Emm a bit of work and he would fit in with other chapters.
Any Marine can be in the Deathwatch.

Yep. A jump pack would look really good for him.

there are plenty of videos on painting ultramarines this way, why make another one?
Why did you click on it then?
Really annoying this guy only being available in America 😫
I really want to get my hands on it somewhere
