And unlike Benchmade, they kept their price reasonable, even accounting for inflation.
$360 MSRP for a shaman is not reasonable.
@@palmerconnelly yeah that’s a bit screwed up but when you look at the entire line up, it’s helluva lot better than Benchmade
@@palmerconnellyshaman has always been known to be overpriced look at anything Benchmade it’s skyrocketed I’d rather get any Spyderco knife than a Benchmade. Including the overpriced shaman I said I’d never buy.😂
Benchmade won't even let dealers advertise under MSRP. You have to call for pricing...gtfoh benchmade
Depends.. lol some are just nuts.. change of steel warranting another 200 bucks is kinda dumb lol..
You have a pocket clip on your knife because of Spyderco.
No way, for real?
@@larshoneytoast722yep, just looked it up
@larshoneytoast722 yep, I actually just mentioned it on the comment above this and then read these comments lol
Badass
Cuz nobody would have figured that out
They also invented the pocket clip.
no they didn’t
@mfkdkscjjr atleast the first to introduce it to knives.. so technically yes
@@mfkdkscjjr yes they did. Spyderco Clipit. Look it up.
Those are 3 things I did know. I've been a Spydie fan since the '80s and was a direct dealer as well.
They invented the pocket clip also
They were around in the 80's, I only have 4 knives, 1 extrema ratio, 1 fox, spyderco warrior, spyderco kerahawk karambit.
Never been a big fan of the look of Spyderco. However, they indeed make fantastic knives!
ditto. not my cup of tea, but I won't poopoo on them. their a good quality knife. little too hyped imo, but to each his own. I'm a buck collector myself. I have a few different steels from different years in my collection too so I have a good idea of the quality control. as far as moder ones, it's pricey but honestly worth it imo to get the PRO series with the BOS heat treated s35vn steel. I'm extremely impressed with that particular steel. I even have a early 70s 440 steel one back when American 440 steel was still quality. love that knife too lol
Best heat treatments in the mass produced knife game.
I like my bos heat treated s35vn steel in my buck ALOT. I've tested it too and it is much better Than most all other steels I've felt
@@danielkeslerjr4407buck only uses a couple steels so i would HOPE they can heat treat steels that are over a decade old right. spyderco use’s literally dozens of different steels and HTs every one of them well. they’re one of the few companies out that use k390, rex45, magnacut etc at the higher hardness they’re SUPPOSED to be at.
Was never a fan of the look of Spyderco but when I bought a PM3 I fell in love with that spidie hole
from the first time i laid my eyes on a spyderco (a PM2) I knew that that was what I would want to use for the rest of time. So beautiful... its interesting how some people don't see it as so.
Sal and his boy and wife have done more for cutlery than almost anyone else modern day. They live for good knives, not money. Benchmade lives for money.. knives come second. Spyderco never became evil.. that’s why I dig them so much.
I've always been a fan of Spyderco, I first noticed their blades in the mid 90's, as far as folding blades go, they're one of my favorites and the best imo.
@@Gus_Gadgets_Guns I sure have, they have nothing on Spyderco as far as quality.
I met some Spyderco employees at shot way back in 2012 everyone was so nice and welcoming.
Just bought my first spyderco over the weekend. Dont know why i waited so long. I got the Para 3 and its awesome. If youve been on the fence about pickn one up. Wait no more you wont be disappointed
I bought the worker from them in Placerville CA. at a fair in 1980..good times ❤
i love these vids
I want to start collecting rare or limited edition knives...focused on Spydercos , Case, and Bucks, which are technically my favorites.
I like them and I acknowledge their quality. The point is that I live in Europe and for a plain Dragonfly with FRN scales and VG-10 blade the price is 90 eur. I don't know all the causes, but they are currently tremendously overpriced in my humble opinion.
the delica is $88 in america. that’s really not that expensive. you can pick up a native 5 in s30v for like $95, a manix 2 for $150, an s45vn pm2/para 3 for like $180, native 5 magnacut for $150, para 3 lw for 125-140. hell you can pickup a k390 delica for $120 and have one of the highest possible edge retention steels available, that’s also tough and won’t chip every ten seconds
Didn't know the porta le hand but knew the other two. Didn't they also start the pocket clip ?
Sharp maker DVD deserves an Oscar! Change my mind! 🏆
They make great knives. Remember watching them show up on the scene. Got a few, including the little one that was totally skeletal. Cool knife.
Delica was my first knife that cost more than $50 like 15 years ago, then the PM2 was my first over $100 knife. Almost 20 years of collecting knives that I'll actually use and not sit on a shelf, most of them are and have been spyderco. Want a unique steel? Spyderco. Want a simple buy it for life knife? Seki Spyderco, American made? Golden, CO Spyderco. Production knife with a reliable and decent heat treat? Spyderco.
I just bought the sharpmaker lol. Works well!
I am about to buy my first. I held out for who knows why. This is the best knife for the money hands down
One handed opening goes atleast back to the civil war, look up how they modified their knives to be able to be opened with one hand
I have like three dozen Spyderco knives lol
I have the Para 3 with micarta scales and cruwear steel. It holds a RAZOR sharp edge like nobody's business. Such an amazing tool.
@@pastrybaker72that's the pm2
I had at one point about 21 of the Para series (pm2 and Para 3) at one point, then the shaman and lil native were introduced and I let go of almost all of my Para series and moved to lil native and shaman. I have a couple micarta handled shaman, and the cruwear, m4 dlc, s45vn, and 20cv lil native still
They make an marine aquatic animal rescue kit. Ebay
I already knew these things.
Oh I knew all that. I think the best part about them is most of their knives are actually useful cutting tools and priced fairly compared to Benchmade knives that are outrageously priced for what they are.
I'm pretty sure thumb studs came before the spidie hole . But yes they do innovation like very few others .
So cool that I'm from the same place as the best knife company in the world
Which knife is the blue one
It's really cool that SpyderCo invented one handed opening, but by today's standards, the finger hole that SpyderCo knives have has to be the least practical mechanism for one handed opening lol
One thing I do know is they are overpriced. They ain’t nearly as tough as cold steel and yet you can get most cold steel knives for 1/2 the price. There are some nice spyderco knives don’t get me wrong but they are 20-30% more than they should be.
But at that same time they are also the only company pushing boundaries which cost $$$ . How many other companies have you seen produce knives in as many steels as spyderco. Things like Spy27 , maximet , super gold 2 , k390 , rex 45 , rex 76 , rex 121 and many more.
@@jesserobinson838uh… the canis? GB2? stretch 2/xl? shaman? the bodacious coming soon? spymyto? not to mention the dozens of different steels they offer that literally no other manufacturer uses like rex45, spy27, k390, s110v, bd1n.
most cold steel knives are half the price because they’re made in taiwan moron. also the cheapest s35vn knife cold steel makes is the ultimate hunter, and that’s $110 which is the same price as a manix 2 Lw. the cold steel recon and ad10/15 are almost the exact same price as a manix 2 g10. cold steel also ONLY uses one single steel. spyderco uses steels like k390, rex45, s110v, s45vn, 20cv, m398, cruwear, 4v, m4, cts xhp, s30v, etc etc
You mean the same Cold Steel that's made in China? 😂😂😂😂
Are you saying switch blades did not exist before spyderco? I highly doubt it.
I actually thought it was a girl's knife growing up, since my mother skinned rabbits with one and then got my sister one. And my sister has been into Spider Co ever since
What model was the blue knife?
That’s a Stretch in K390 steel.
I had it in my in my shopping list but somehow I had forgotten about it.
Weren’t they also the ones who made the first pocket clip for a knife
I did now the first two.
I think they also invented the pocket clip
The Spider Edge serrations are Incredible! Testing shows in my Aqua Salt.
Supposedly they have a patent on the circular hole opener. Supposedly Benchmade pays to use it.
I also heard that they were the first company to put a pocket clips and serrations folding knives
I knew 1 of these
Also their logo is a tick 😅 (idk for sure but it sure looks like a tick and not a normal spider)
It was intentionally designed to look a bit more round and friendly than most spiders for marketing reasons, iirc.
Hence, it often being called the “Spyderco Bug”, rather than the “Spyderco Spider”.
Spider mite*
I heard they invented the pocket clip as well? Or was that Chris reeves?
Spyderco.
Chris reeves is responsible for creating the frame lock on a knife. He made it an open patten so any knife maker can use it and now you see it on literally every high end folder pretty much
@@FDESLOSSY oh okay, I knew he had invented something.
You didn't even mention the pocket clip.
The history of spyderco was in big fish
I have a couple of those portable hands. Not spyderco but hands none the less. Great for small detail work. I've used it for soldering, painting detail work on models etc when I used to do that.
They did not invent the one hand opening. Friction folders and higonokamis existed long, very long, before spyderco.
And they don't chop up guns! 😃
Who did that?
@@FlabbyBro unfortunately Benchmade. On the other hand though if you wear out the blade on your Benchmade, they’ll replace the blade for a small charge ($25 I think). If you wear out the blade on your Spyderco, you’re buying a new knife.
@@FlabbyBrobenchmade
@@JG54206Benchmade’s are expensive (really overpriced now)but the customer service is top notch. Spyderco’s customer service is garbage. I needed a new plastic washers in my Chicago. They were unable to fix it. I got a discount off a new one.
The guns had serial numbers scratched off or were used in crimes. The local PD asked Benchmade if they could use their equipment. They agreed. Just helping local law enforcement.
Spyderco will always be the GOAT
I believe that Spyderco was the first company to have a pocket clip. Don’t take my word though 😅not 💯 on it.
They didn't invent one handed opening. Come on, now.
Nice but $50-$200 kinda crazy
Price
50-200 usd
They did not invent one hand opening just came up with the round hole idea to do it.
I love Spyderco. But the riveting of scales on certain knives is just plane stupid.
I love spyderco so fucking good
all that research and they can’t figure out a good deep carry clip lol
I am subkribe
they did not invent single hand opening. they might of PATENTED the round hole design, but that's different. u could get a spring loaded Italian stilleto decades before spyderco was even a brand, let alone paratrooper gravity knives. oh and can't forget balisongs/butterfly knives have been made before even wyat buck shaped his first file into a blade. also, most every high end company uses high end materials and research and development departments to push their materials to the max. spyderco is far from special in this way.. so... other than the portable hand, ur facts are a little shaky..
Is this a paid advertisement?
and yet they still won't add a sharpening choil
I still got the hand thing 😂😂super old
Now I know why their $250 knives have the same cheap handles of their $35 knives.
Anyone interested in a pm2 or shaman?? Selling mine, both in great condition
I thought I liked Spyderco but there just flashy and expensive
There insanely expensive
They break easy for 200bucks
Wrong everybody knew this 😂
Why am I banned from your google page what did I do
I’ve heard nothing but good things about spyderco knives but do you have any evidence to support the claim that they invented one handed opening as a whole? Maybe they were the first to use that design for a one handed pocket knife but the company is only 50 ish years old. Haven’t peasant knives been around in one form or another for a few hundred years? I’m not saying the spyderco design isn’t good or that it wasn’t innovative, but I don’t think it was the first one handed pocket knife.
What about switchblades and gravity knives?
Super cool do this for benchmade
I don't need a super high speed low drag super steel knife. And I'm not spending half of what I could use to buy a new gun. I'm simple a good d2 blade works just fine for me
Payed $55 for a tenacious and its made in China garbage. Chinese metric screws so I can't flip the pocket clip can barely spidie flick even after oil etc brands dead to me now
**a LOT of research**
**continues to make hollow grind knives**
Hollow grind is incredibly well at slicing, much better than a full flat
What's wrong with hollow? A lot of well respected quality knives have hollow grinds, from CRK to Cold Steel, and many customs.
#4 - They sue people over shapes.
i know theyre some of the ugliest knives around, thats all i need to know
Prettier than benchmade especially for the price
@@imperialstardestroyer712 ok...and?
The native 5, shaman and manix are all pretty good looking knives and they have a few fixed blades that I like the look of. The para 3 I guess is kind of weird looking but I like it.
I bought their best looking knife IMO. The nirvana. Been carrying it every day since. Its so nice
@@Puddspanker- that is a handsome piece!
I’m still fucking with my Opinels 🥴🥴
They believe in constant quailty improvement while they also make a large amount of their knives in china. That makes no sense whatsoever.
but, they didn't invent one hand opening?.! lolol that's insane to claim that
