In this video we go to the BEST places to see the 2023 Tulip Festival in Istanbul.
Each spring there is an annual Tulip Festival in Istanbul and millions of tulips get planted all around the city! We're talking somewhere around 30 million tulips!
The Netherlands might be the most famous place for tulips, but these flowers were actually first cultivated by the Turks. It was from right here in Istanbul where the rest of Europe was introduced to tulips by the Ottoman Empire.
The official festival dates in 2023 are April 1-30, but depending on the weather and the year, you may be able to see the tulips bloom from late March to the first few weeks of May.
If you are planning to be in Istanbul during the spring, it really is a special time of year for the city! Some of the best places to see the tulips are just right along the normal tourist path, but Istanbul is a massive city! Many of the 30M tulips are planted in parks that are well outside of where the average visitor goes.

James, so glad to hear about your trip! Just as a heads up, we filmed this video about 1 week ago so some of the tulips are past their prime... Since you will be here in a matter of days, you will still get the chance to see some great tulips... but we were in Sultanahmet Square this morning and the tulips there are mostly done. Gülhane Park still looks very nice though so you won't have to go far to see them! Also we were in Emirgan Park on Thursday and it was still very nice there too! Hope you have a great trip!

Hi there. I was planning on going to Istanbul for the very first time on May 28, but now that's been announced the second round of presidential election I'm having some doubts. How was it there last Sunday? Can you still enjoy the city as a tourist? Are tourist attractions, bars, cafes, restaurants open during the elections weekend? Any help will be much appreciated.
There is a law that prohibits the sale of alcohol and requires entertainment venues to be closed on the day of the voting.
As far as restaurants and bars go, from what we could tell, things were only affected on the actual day of the election. But speaking at least for our neighborhood in Kadikoy, for sure a significant number of restaurants were closed on the Election Day and it was very quiet.
Because the result was inconclusive, everything pretty much immediately went back to normal, but we cannot speak to how things will be impacted following the runoff election. I hope this helps!
