NOTE: As of 2024, Turkey has changed the E-Visa requirement for US Citizens. Ordinary passport holders are exempt from the visa requirement for up to 90 days within any 180-day period (Official passport holders are required to have visa to enter Türkiye).
@@dannylimbr No worries, it is written a bit vague... An ordinary Passport is just one that is not a diplomatic or "official" passport... Unless you are traveling on official government business my guess is that you have an "ordinary" passport. 😁
Here is a pro tip: You can always use "merci" to thank people as every person from any demographic and area will understand it. However learning how to say "tesekkürler = thanks" or "tesekkür ederim = thank you" will go a long way.
Merhaba! Easiest way to thank someone in Turkish is to say “sağol” (Ğ is the only silent letter in Turkish, so it sounds like SAH-OL)….It’s short and sweet! Easy to remember. So, you’re wishing someone a good health/wellness while you thank them for whatever the reason you might have to feel thankful. Thank you for the nicest videos! So happy I found your channel visiting turkey next week for 8 days. Advice for getting from Haliki to center istanbul. Traveling from bulgaria on the overnight train from sofia
We haven’t done that trip before but pretty sure the Marmaray train starts from that station and can take you right into the city. You can use the IstanbulKart to pay for the Marmaray just like the subway (it is just a bit more expensive). Google maps with transit layer on will be your best friend!
Great video and very nice summary of important info! I'll be going from Athens to Izmir next week. Since it's a very last minute trip, I've been working through the details the last couple of days and completely forgot about the visa. Got it now, thanks to you guys!
Absolutely! We just had family visiting and we went to the Suleymaniye Hamam. It was great. It is an old historical Hamam that is still wood fired. And they allow couples to experience the Hamam together rather than segregated. Also it is right next to one of our favorite mosques 😁!
Hello Jess and Myles, we just discovered you in the last couple of weeks. We are coming to Turkey next week for a one month stay. We will be in Istanbul for one week and then on to the Turquoise Coast; finishing up in Cappadocia. . We have purchased your Comprehensive Turkey Guide and it has been quite instrumental in planning our next month. We retired a few months ago and we are on an 18 month trip through Europe (and the Asian side of Turkey), we have been in Sibiu Romania for the month of August. Oh, thanks for the heads up on the visa, we secured ours this morning. also, I think we might do the food tour you recommend. Keep the videos coming, we have watched a few on food and the transportation system. Any other recommendations on which ones we should watch?
Oh yayyy, this all makes us so happy to hear.. we are super glad you guys found us! And too funny about Sibiu, such a small world. It sounds like we just missed each other. ☺️ As far as Turkey goes.. it seems like you guys have a great trip planned! We have 3 videos on Cappadocia you might find helpful and also we just posted a video on the Southern coast about a month ago. As far as Istanbul goes, since you have a week here you should definitely check out Top 7 Things to do Outside of the Old City. You guys have a good amount of time to spread things out and also venture further than the historic center! Even if you already have your accommodations booked, our Top Neighborhoods video gives a great general overview/ layout of the city that might be helpful. Anyway we hope you guys have a great trip! Let us know if you have any other questions. 🤗
Thank you both for the great videos and information and for your guide book! Do you have any tips for 1. Being partially disabled as a tourist 2. Live rock music venues.
Lovely ! This video made me happy, as a turkish , watching and listening something about my country from you is great. I wish ı met with you… ı live in Diyarbakır. Did you visit here ? Actually mardin is close to Diyarbakır. By the way your pronouncation is so cute in Türkish❤
Ah this makes us so happy to hear, thank you for the kind words!! We only passed through Diyarbakır.. we had lunch and walked around a bit but we didn’t have much time unfortunately! We would definitely love to come back one day for a dedicated visit!
Hi. Really informative video Could you please give some tips on how is Istanbul on 29 October. I will be in Istanbul on the Republic Day and would like to know what all will closed and also the traffic conditions
I heard prices at restaurants, hotels, etc. are getting out of control and being much higher than a year ago. Is it still cost effective to visit Turkey, with all the recent price increases, especially entrance fees, i.e., Library of Celsus, etc.?
Prices have in fact increased significantly here.. we have talked about making a video on this soon actually.. I think you can still travel here affordably but it does take some extra intention and effort now. But for sure if you are comparing to the past couple years, I would say it is double, if not more now..
Never accept the banks conversion rate when using an ATM as it is always more expensive. Most of the major sites in Istanbul price their admission in Euros and in many tourist resorts many things will also be priced in Euros alongside lira.

Any specific link you would suggest to buy istanbul E pass and city card online before arrival to turkey?
Hello, absolutely love you guys. Im coming to 🇹🇷 soon... just wanted to know if you can make a video on arrival, where to exchange ur money and more things to know for an older person with NO traveling experience to avoid being taken advantage of by taxi drivers ect. If I arrive with no turkish currency, should I exchange at the airport for taxi or bus money etc.
Jess and Myles, we are planning our first trip to Istanbul for May 2024. Your videos have been very helpful. We are us very excited about this trip and now feel we have a good idea of how to make the most of our time there. Do you have a video on how to get from the airport, IST, to our hotel? Can transfers be prearranged with the hotel so someone picks us up? I have downloaded it but have not gone thru your Istanbul travel guide, yet.
Hi there!! So happy you’re finding our videos helpful! 🤗 I am sure your hotel could arrange a transfer for you.. we sometimes find it to be more expensive through a hotel but definitely an option and worth checking with them. We also have a full section in the guide on transportation and talk specifically about the different options getting from IST to the city on page 18. ☺️ please let me know if you have any other questions!
Funny you ask that because we just partnered with them to offer a 10% discount through March 19th. The discount code is WAYPOINT10 and here is the link: www.tranigo.com/en/istanbul?aid=571 ☺️
Yep that’s right.. that is new as of the beginning of the year. We updated the description but we should probably pin a comment too so it’s easier to see :)
You forgot to warn about dishonest traders (let's be honest, there are a lot of them!). It's amazing how they almost always try to deceive you about prices in establishments and in taxis. They say a price beforehand, and after you are going to pay, they claim another much higher price. Disgusting cheating!
I just tried to apply for an E-visa. Turns out currently Canadian and USA passport holders do not need a E-VISA for up to 90days of travel. Effective Currently August 2024

I have checked the Spam folder several times but didn't receive anything there either. Something must be broken. BTW, I really enjoy your videos and planning a trip to Istanbul based on your videos.
I’m shocked they expect the older population even to use a squat toilet. Balance or injuries. Arthritis. I would feel awful if they couldn’t bend down or fell over. Seems wild
Hi! Yes, Very sorry, we should have clarified a little more that we were referring to tourists wearing baseball hats. I wear a baseball hat everywhere but I do take it off when we visit a mosque.
Even a baseball cap, not wearing a baseball cap in majid/mosques are really more practical as you can’t bow with a visor in your face 😁. Hats are completely fine as long as there are no disrespectful images or words but that would go for any article of clothing. If someone feels like they’re being more respectful by removing it that’s fine but many people wear even baseball caps turned around while praying it’s more so about wearing something dignifying and respectful but most things are fine
