Thousands of people descend on Amsterdam every spring to see the tulips bloom - and to take colorful photos surrounded by endless blossoms. DW's Diana Piñeros takes you to the famous Keukenhof and The Tulip Barn, two must-see destinations for flower lovers.

I first visited Keukenhof in 1989. The flowers were so beautiful. But my favorite memory was of watching the blackbird sing and hop around.

I visited this beautiful garden in 2009. We Indians can never forget that iconic tulip garden picturised in the iconic movie Silsila. Loved this place.❤❤

I went to Keukenhof way back in 1992 before Facebook, UA-cam and Instagram so, the only memories I have are in my head and the pictures I took with my 35mm camera, as well as Polaroids. I wouldn't have had the opportunity to go there if I had not been in the U.S Army stationed in Rotterdam at that time. I also had the fortune of having gone to "FLORIADE" , the floral an agricultural exposition held every 10 years in a different city every year. In 1992, it was held in Zoetemeer.
The last floriade was a big money breakdown so the dutch decided to stop with it after 70 years. But Keukenhof will be there every spring

Floriade flower show flop set to cost Almere over €90 million
The flopped Floriade plant show in Almere will have made a loss heading towards €100 million for the local authority, broadcaster Omroep Flevoland has reported. With four days until the show closes for good, the number of visitors has been again downgraded to 680,000.
Before the event opened, the organisers had hoped for two million visitors over the five-month season.
Some €42 million of the loss is down to disappointing ticket sales and €43 million to loans made to the Floriade organisation which cannot be repaid. Council officials have not yet said what a further €6.6 million loss, included in a briefing to local councillors this week, is down to. More financial surprises have not been ruled out.
Reviews of the show have been poor and the event was also criticised for its high prices. The continuing impact of coronavirus on foreign visitor numbers in particular also took their toll.
The financial drama led to the resignation of local council’s executive board in June. The Floriade - which happens in a different city every 10 years - is due to run until October 9. The event was first held in Rotterdam in 1960 with the aim of strengthening the image of the Dutch horticulture sector, and to promote exports, but has since expanded into an international plant and garden show with exhibitors from other countries. The last Floriades in Venlo, Haarlemermeer and Zoetermeer also lost money."

Tulips are one of the national symbol in Turkey . it was taken to Europe during the Ottoman period.

When did you visit the garden and the barn? You and the interviewees didn't wear bulky jacket so I assume it wasn't that cold? I want to pick a time when it's not too cold and the tulips are still blooming.
We filmed in April. It was not that cold, but it was super windy! Bring a good jacket :)

Diana was there at the beginning of April. That's when tulips start to bloom there.

It depends on what you want. Keukenhof is a park, the tulip fields are...fields.

How late in May? There about end of may
End of May is a little bit too late. It always depends from the weather conditions. But the tulips start to bloom at the end of March and are blooming until the mid of May.
Its not the land of Tulip
Tulip originally from Turkish culture then Dutch took it from Istanbul to their land

From mid April until mid of May. It depends on the weather when the tulips start to bloom.
