This is the only version where Scrooge's nephew isn't already happily married.

Entertainment and film in particular would make an interesting study. The direction of the participants depends of course upon who it is the direction believes will be viewing the work. In this 'film' for example you notice each scene is alike the set-decor or stages in a play. And when talking motion pictures began in the late 20's you can see some carry-over with both the direction as well as the makeup from the 'silent' era. You can see the 'stage' very clearly during the silent era, just as you see acting and even makeup when 'talkies' first began.
And now even location-shoot's can be circumvented. And all the myriad of techniques and effects that currently make movies would boggle the mind of the performers in the above.
You are far-more removed from the time when this was done than the actor's in this silent were from when the classic of which they are preforming was actually written !

The ending is virtually the same as MGM's 1938 version......

@Reverend Elvis P Monroe LHOHQ The ending of the 1938 version isn't like the book at all, in the book Scrooge never visits Cratchett at home nor does he make his nephew a partner.

This could be one of the oldest Christmas Carol's made.

Did *that* ever stop MGM from giving the audience a happy ending?

This is 20 while others are 13minutes. Is this looped?
