  • The very first flaring of the small DriZzleR I just build some day's ago in two hours. I was confident it would flare, but surpriced by the amount of gas it produced. I think apart from a toy and a learning tool, with some tweaking this small simple unit can good serve in preppers and emergency situations.
    IMPORTANT WARNING. WOODGAS IS POISENING AND DANGEROUS. iF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING DO NOT EVEN BUILD. BY COPY OR BUILDING YOU TAKE FULL RESPONSEBILITY;

    Well done. You did a great job, simple, understandable!
    I have only one question. Did I miss any part of the video or the gasifier does not have a fan or air blower?
    Thanks a lot.

      +Humberto Silva Humberto, In this video I sucked out the gas by means of an ejector I do this often for test reasons and to judge a quick result. An ejector is capable to handle very hot gas. A fan or a blower needs to have the gas cooled down.

    Thank you , that's very understandable . I will be posting something I came up with on the Gasifiers . I would be interested in your opinion greatly . I will let you know when I post it . What are you doing next , will you be adding anything to this one .? Thanks .

    I was wondering if pedal power could drive the blower. Build that!!

      Dear Arch, I have done such a build already 6 years ago. Here is the video of the build. However the mechanical construction was not so good as the results proof it is indeed possible to start a gasifier on pedal power. Here the video. Thank you for watching and comenting. ua-cam.com/video/7n0IioPjLTo/v-deo.html

    excellent and very elegant Luk ,what does the pipe going on the floor do ? is that for creosote run of ? brilliant i will try and replicate this "Drizzler" safety first is a great point in any design .

    • @LukVanhauwaert
      @LukVanhauwaert  10 років тому

      Hi Jim, Thank you for the compliment. I gues with the pipe you are refering to the steel rod where the plastic pipe dangels on. No it is not a pipe but a steel rod that I pushed in the ground to support the plastic pipe that hangs on it. In the plastic pipe is coloured water to indicate how much underpresure i am making. Making this small DriZzleR is an easy way to give you a bit of hands on feeling on woodgasification. Have fun with it, and write about your experiences in our blog; www.thedrizzler.org. You are more than welcome among our small DriZzleR comunity. Luk

      david,
      The ejector you mean? The design of that ejector is done by Stephen Sabbadess of the yahoo woodgas group. In the files section of that group is a detailed description on how to make such an ejector yourself.

    Super gemacht tolles Video. Warum ist der 2. Schlauch am Knie?? Der 1.Schlauch ist Kompressor ok. Ist Dämmwolle innen zum reinigen des Gas? lg andy
    Well done great video. Why is the 2nd hose to the knees ?? The 1.Schlauch is ok compressor. Is insulating wool inside to clean the gas? lg andy

      Andreas, Der zweiten schlauch ist der manometer, der gibt mir der unterdruck wieder damit isch weiss wie hogh der compressor drehen. Der innen dammwolle ist Keramikwolle gut fur hogen temperatur damit mann sich nicht verbrennt an der tonne. Der gas ist ungereinigt aber er gibt der guten eindruck weil dass gas gemischt ist mit pressluft von der ejector betreieb.

      Ja die temperaturen mussen riesig sein um teerfreies gas zu erzeuchen; bestens Uber 1000 C. Diese temperatur geht shon ab in die reductionzone aber gas am ausgang der reductionszone bleibt immer nog zwichen 500 und 700 grad.

    It has supplied air?

    • @LukVanhauwaert
      @LukVanhauwaert  4 роки тому

      Thank you for reacting. The air (ER) comes together with the fuel from above. (ER=ratio of air used to stoichiometric air) allows greater amounts of oxygen to react with the volatiles in the flaming pyrolysis.

    but what are you gonna use it for? since the gas still is dirty you cant hook it up to a engine like a generator, all you can do is burn the gas, but thats not very useful.
    you need a cyclon filter to get rid of tar and creosot etc and a particle filter to get the gas clean enough to be used in a engine along with a cooling element to cool the gas for maximum effect in a engine.
    so all you did was build the burner, but that's only a part of a gasifier construction, now you need to add the other elements to make it useful, but then I doubt you will be able to fit it on a bike unless its a 3 wheel bike.

      Hi sign, Thank you for comenting.
      The video of flaring the learning gasifier is just a little sideproject from my serious gasifier work. You might have a look at my latest build. A grateless gasifier. ua-cam.com/video/Vd7qDkxbU2I/v-deo.html . The gasifier in the video you commented is just to teach folks the very basics. Producing gas and get their gasifier to flare sustained. I do have also a film where you see hooked up this little learing one to a cyclone and filter, You find that video here ua-cam.com/video/nhScuVMYB3E/v-deo.html
      Hope that answered your concern.

      even though it's dirty gas you can still pipe it to cook with indoors or to burn in a small greenhouse to keep it warm or flexible pipe to carry flame around an orchard to protect from a late/early frost even maybe use with a furnace or clothes drier, gas logs, etc. i'm not sure how big that pipe would need to be so one could manage the clog causing PAH and tar components, though.
      yes nice proof of concept but also some function, i think, too.

    does this use compressed air or is it exclusively a venturi?

    • @theDriZzleRGasifier
      @theDriZzleRGasifier 7 років тому

      Kevin, The medium to drive off the woodgas is indeed compressed air. It is pressed through a tiny little hole of 1mm this air sucks with its streaming force the very hot woodgas out of the gasifier. It is a good and only method to test your gasifier build without the need to build a cooler.

      @leeknivek 7 років тому

      do you have any idea the BTU output on this flare? i am looking to build a gas forge using wood gas, your drizzler design seems the most promising. basically, i need something that will sustain 2200 degrees in about a 1 cubic foot space. is this size capable of that, or should i expect to build something larger?

    • @theDriZzleRGasifier
      @theDriZzleRGasifier 7 років тому

      Dear Kevin, Now you ask me a question. I realy do not know. However the flare can make metal red hot but if that is enough for forging? The harder you but copressed air the fiercer the flare is. Maybe just give it a try? The build is quick and easy and does not take much time.

    • @leeknivek
      @leeknivek 7 років тому

      sorry, maybe a little too specific. i think i'm going to try it, just trying to do some research beforehand.
      how about this: do you think the compressed air can be replaced with a blower? i won't have the vacuum of an engine to suck the wood gas, and i can run compressed air, but prefer not to because of noise and i feel it will consume a lot of air.

    • @LukVanhauwaert
      @LukVanhauwaert  7 років тому +1

      Yes, a blower can do the trick also. At least to drive the gas off. I did so with my very first gasifier experiments. If the flare could be as fierce as with compressed air i yet to test. Here is a link

      David,
      Sorry but as a principle I do not comunicate in private anymore. First because I have to sit all day typing, but second and more important I want the communication on gasifiers open for everybody else to learn. I am active and reachable on the yahoo woodgas group and on our blog www.thedrizzler.org I am not a guru and if I can not help, on those sites are lots of other smart helpfull people too.
