    The entrance of oxygen, even in the form of water, bothers me since we want a maximum of alkanes normally since we want to get rid of fossil ones.
    The biomass should be dried outside before entering with perhaps solar and wind.
    So I think the biomass should next inside the reactor be heated not via combustion but through microwaves, lasers etc.. Perhaps a pulsed approach of instant laser vaporization of small quantities is an option.
    We don't like sulfur so the biomass entering should be chosen well to be sulfur poor, say bamboo or so. (elephants grass?)
    We don't like expensive catalysts. So I wonder if pressure and perhaps ammonia addition would work also to get lighter fuel. The ammonia serves as hydrogen carrier. It should be reformed later ideally. Perhaps today even adding pure hydrogen is an option since syngas contains hydrogen. The flammability problem seems under control.
    This process is now often done at high temperature which means heat loss but with flash laser evaporation the high temperature would be reached while the energy loss would be minimized.

    at what temperature do the gases break away from the biomass? some sources say at 450-500C the gasification is 90% done, others say we need higher temperatures, around 800-900C. Which one is correct?

    What percentage of that gas would be hydrogen and methane? What ate the other gases? Does it produce less Co2 when burned?

      We. (JK ENERGY) have invented "Fast Pyrolysis (continuous) System" for scientifically conversion of any *DRY AGRO* waste to active energy without the pollution of environment.
      We developed a pilot project for Govt.of Maharashtra , MAHARASHTRA BAMBOO DEVELOPMENT BOARD,Nagpur
      ( Special purpose of Bamboo waste disposal project) .
      On the completion of the process of any Dry Biomass Waste.
      we get three Bio Products
      1) Pyrolysis Oil - 45/50%
      2) Activated Charcoal - 25/30%
      3) Syn Gas.- 20/25%
      ◆ (with the help of LIT-Laxminarayan Institute of Technology, Nagpur, Maharashtra,India) On distillation of pyrolysis oil we get
      * Light Diesel Oil (LDO-30/35%)
      * Compressed Natural Gas(CNG-15/20%)
      * Pesticides (45/50%)
      ◆ The Activated Charcoal obtained from the system is used in various industries such as Cosmetic industry, Pharmaceutical industry and Fertilizer industry.The Activated Charcoal can also be used for Purification of Water.
      ◆ Syn gas can be used for generation of Electricity and on compression of syn gas we get Compressed Natural Gas(CNG).
      This is a patented project and the size of the system varies from 1 tonne per day to 40 tonne per day

      Javox C For methane, it reacts with water at high temperature to form CO and H2. Then CO and H2 reactss again to form CH3OH eventually.

      in order to do so, you would need to invest in a specialized compressor to put the gases generated under pressure in storage tanks.. eg propane tanks

      In a sense, some carbon monoxide will get burned off. Because you see, the water gas-shift reaction (the reaction responsible for gasification) is a reversible reaction involving carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, water and hydrogen. At this temperature (or more specifically at this state), these 4 compounds form a reaction equilibrium, resulting to appropriate amounts of these compounds.

    • @jean-pierredevent970

      I am a layman but fuel cells seem to depend on catalysts and these are known to require very pure inputs or they get contaminated. Syngas is a mixture. Sulfur is present and seems notorious in its ability to poison catalysts.
