    Just bought one of these as my first bike. I love almost everything about it. Super easy to learn on. I got comfortable on it in two days. I love everything other than the mirrors. I can’t see much behind me. But I’m also fat. So there’s that.

    I've had this bike for 11 years. Even with a gsxr600, fz1 and triumph trophy se; I love my fz6r in my stable yet. Gets great mpg for commuting to work and errands. Flicks into the corner and brakes good. The bike you ride was obviously used because it has clip is instead of the stock handlebar. Previous owner probably screwed up the brakes with bad bleeding and didn't get the geometry right. Granted it's not a race pony, but it's comfortable for just riding around.

    I think it's funny how some people think they've outgrown their bikes simply because they reach its top speed in a consistent basis.
    I personally think you don't outgrow a bike until you can put your knee down on every corner. Then, and only then, do you get the privilege to say you've outgrown it.
    Otherwise, you're just another guy who got bored and wanted something faster (and that's okay, just don't say you outgrew it).

    • @southeastbikelife400
      @southeastbikelife400 7 місяців тому

      It has nothing to do with dragging knee. Now that being said that does require a great amount of skill and time learning your specific bike. I'm am NOT saying ur wrong necessarily. But saying you have outgrown a bike totally depends on what you're doing with it. If you plan on mounting riding and track riding then yes or more so. But if all you care about is how fast you can go in a straight line then that has absolutely nothing to do with it

    Your review is pretty spot on. I bought a 2012 FZ6R as my first bike and use it mainly for commuting back and forth to work (80mi/day). After a while I lowered the front a couple inches to give it more lean, I guess you'd say, which made it more comfortable to handle. I also swapped out the air filter to K&N and did the "airbox mod", which gave it a little more response. It's a blast to ride now because I can tuck and go fast (to me lol) or sit up and relax.

  • @Fatal_Inertia

Comfy, smooth, fast enough to have some fun, and gets more attention than anything else I've ridden or driven. Eyeing up a gsxr600 as my next bike but highly recommend the for for a starter bike.

    I have the R3 and had the 6R. The 6R has a great motor, one of the smoothest around. The bike does lack a bit of " soul" since its so smooth.
    The R3 is more fun since going 70mph on a small bike feels faster than 70mph if you know what I mean. I have no regrets about switching bikes and having a R3 now, its much lighter and more practical bike for everyday commute etc.

    I had an fz6r for 3 years before going to a 2011 gsxr 600. The fz6r is a great bike for beginners and people who dont want their backs to hurt on a 6-8 hour run. Despite its shortcomings, it will get down on some back roads once you get used to it. Is it nimble? No. Can you do some high speed fun and toss it around once you get used to it? Absolutely. At the end of the day i'm so glad I had this bike and actually wish I would have kept it as a second bike. Especially for long runs with a passenger (you should listen to my wife complain). To those new riders thinking a 600 superbike like the r6, 636, gsxr600, etc... is a good first bike, seriously reconsider. This bike has plenty of power and challenges your growing skills more than you would think without endangering you with odd power delivery (it has the most linear power band ever!). For the price point you couldn't ask for much more.

    • @snallygasternick
      @snallygasternick 9 років тому +2

      I have a 2011 gsxr600 which is still the current model being sold. Its the most comfortable 600 super out there in my opinion. Anyone who tells you an r6 is comfortable is insane. That being said, these bikes are built for track performance and not on road comfort. I've done four hours and it sucks. It will suck on any sport bike. The key is take breaks and stretch out and if you can afford to buy a good gel seat, do it. I will leave you with a word of caution. Keep in mind any 600 superbike has 3 times the power of that 250 and you need to take it slow when you first get one. The 2011-current have a "a" and "b" mode. "B" mode is about half power and can really help you get used to the bike without scaring you stupid.

    I went from a kawasaki klr650 (enduro) as a starter bike, to an FZ6R that I still own after 2 years. Quick summary: as a tall, 200lb dude, this bike's power absolutely surprised me (having not ridden a supersport before). Did I get used to the power? Yes. Do I wish I had more now that I've owned it for awhile? Yea, but its not necessary for my type of riding. This bike is a LOT more comfortable for a tall gent than an R6 (which I've since ridden for a short period after getting my FZ6R) and is better for long rides. The seat gets to be a bit uncomfortable because you are in a more upright position, so most of the weight is on your butt, compared to half arms and half butt on a supersport. I've done some medium mountain riding with it and have no complaints. But, as an entrance into the sport/supersport world of riding, I give it a 9/10.

      I also bought it used ('09) from a dealer with 7k miles on it, and the dealer had made it look 100% brand new. Since they havent changed it since '09, you can say its a 2014, and no one could tell the wiser. I bought it for $5200, with the rediculous 9% NY state tax. Compare that to $11k for a new R6, or about $7-8k for an 09 used.

    Been loving these bike reviews you've been able to do man, hope they keep throwin bikes at you to test ride that'd be awesome! This may sound kinda dumb but I think it'd be awesome if you did a video just like this for Holly. Obviously we've heard you talk about R6's a lot as you've had several now but if you did a video like this where you gave your thoughts on an R6 as if it were the first time you rode one that'd be neat.
    Best Regards,

    I bought a 2012 FZ6R on 7/22/16, I've rode the thing almost everyday, I absolutely am in love with this bike, it's my first "sport" like bike. I live in WV, so it's all mountains here and the bike does really well, it's smooth as Chase was saying, plenty of power to get up and go if needed, nothing compared statistically to the R6. but starting out this is a great great bike.

    This bike is actually extremely flickable from my experience once you do some minor suspension work. I think the reason it doesnt feel like that to this guy is because they had to lower the front end for the clip on handlebars but didnt even it out by lowering the back end along with it.

    I actually own an fz6r that I picked up at M. Motorsports in Lithia Springs this year. My second bike after a ninja 250, been riding 5 yrs. While having never ridden a super sport I must say this bike absolutely shreds in the mountains aaaand rides easy for hundreds of miles on end. Its all in the setup, move bar risers forward, put on some steep dual compound tires, double down shift, keep it above 8,000.
    However I do want something LIGHTER!

    You are way off talking about not doing the twisties on this bike. Look at some of the reviews by the pros, like the one on youtube on mid-bike shootouts. The pros LOVE the way this bike performs on twisting roads. You are way off on this review. None of the pros complained about the power or the way the hands were positioned. Fail.

    Wassup Chase! You're right about the FZ6R being a good beginner bike. I've had mine for 2.5 years now, and I still love it for what it is...a good all-around bike. It's sporty enough for the twisties, yet comfy enough for daily commuting. However, it is down on power which is the primary reason for wanting to upgrade. Btw, I have enjoyed your vids for a while now. You, along with others, inspired me to motovlog as well. Keep up the good work.

I rode 211 miles and all I thought of was something bigger. So find somebody who has a 250 and ride it and see if you think you will out grow it fast. Save your self money.

    My dad has been riding since the 1970s and used to ride cafe racer style bikes back in the day. He gave it up when I was a little kid and bought himself a cruiser a few years ago. Now he is looking to transition from cruisers to sportbikes but doesn't want to go to something as extreme as a full on supersport. He sat on one of these at a dealer and liked the way it felt. Would you say its a good choice for someone looking to transition from cruisers to sportbikes but doesn't wanna go extreme?

    if you are a beginner and plan on stepping up to a super sport, i would recommend ktm390 instead though. fz6r ergonomics are pretty much of a typical sport tourer (1000mile road trip in 2 days and i was quite comfortable the whole way).

    Funny, I had a similar opinion of this bike when I rode it.
    I rode it for the first time at a motorcycle show as a demo bike. at the time I liked it and had only ridden for a few months. (My actual first bike was a 620 Multistrada... not a good first bike because it's too tall and the throttle is sensitive.)
    I actually recommended the FZ6R to a friend who ended up buying it. I rode it home for her because she hadn't ridden much at that point.
    Fast forward a year and I have gotten an FZ 09 and one day we decided to swap bikes for a ride up some hills. I found out that the FZ6R felt soft as you described and very very underpowered.... I would feel stuck behind cars unable to do anything about it.

    • @lopezdad30
      @lopezdad30 5 років тому

      I totally disagree... the fz6r has more than adequate power for the streets and can even beat most cars on the highway as well.... put a full exhaust system with a fuel controller/tune and you'll get even more top end!! The Yamaha fz6r has roughly 70 - 75 horsepower... you can't tell me that is a slow motorcycle.

    An experienced rider would thrash a so-so R6. If I held onto that for five years, it would be very close to an R6 when I was done...lol. It's derived from the old R6 engine, so plenty of upgrades available. That's how I bling, by smoking yet behind...lol.

    the first bike I had bought.. was an 06 CBR F4I. I guess the same thing as the FZ6R. Sport touring. definitely a good starter bike. I've had my FZ6R for a little over 2 years now and I'm glad I picked it up as my first bike. It's a wonderful bike, and like all bikes, it'll take care of you if you take care of it. The stock model is great but the uber mirrors look extremely tacky, and the stock exhaust is extremely quiet. And in order to replace the stock exhaust, you have to buy an entire set-up of headers, midpipe and slip-on as all three of those parts are welded to eachother on the stock exhaust. The gearbox feels very second-hand and also feels a bit clunky. Other than that, I'd say it is a great starter bike and cannot recommend it more.

      SV650S is a great starter bike. it's the one I got and I absolutely love it. Flicks around easily, has power when you need it, feels great too! Only downside : Suspension is a bit meh and no gear indicator. I often look for 7th gear when on the highway. haha!

    • @BillPairaktaridis
      @BillPairaktaridis 10 років тому

      CanadianBiker Happens to me all the time. Because the SV650 has so much torque and the V-Twin engine is great for shifting in the low revs. So, when I've hit 80kph I'll usually be shifting to 6th gear and cruising around from there. And at some point around 6-7k I'll start looking for 7th gear :P But it's an amazingly great bike. I can not say enough good things about it.

    • @CanadianBikerX
      @CanadianBikerX 10 років тому +2

      I refuse to accept this last comment. *****. I started on an SV650 after 5 months of not riding and having only done a basic riders class. It is torquey in the low rev range, but its FULLY controllable with a steady wrist. (only jittery in first gear). It's easy to get over this problem by releasing the clutch slowly. I haven't had any problems yet with this bike. Even as a new rider.
