you definitely need a flap on your nozzle, to break suction at the intake point in case you get detained by it. a guy who dredged for my dad, managed to get both hands/arms up past the elbows into the nozzle of an 8"(necked down to 7") running @ full throttle. it then was going to pull the regulator out of his mouth followed by his lungs. the diver was upside down being jammed up against the rib of the hole being worked by the strong current and was in a very serious life or death situation. I being the last one in came to find this happening and pounced for the flap on the nozzle and broke suction just as it took his regulator. and come to find out that the sharp edges of steel inside the nozzle (newly built custom 8") that deeply lacerated his arms through his wetsuit and was drawing the blood out of his system, quickly pulled free from the nozzles tremendous suction power.
oh, he lived and was incredibly beaten up by the 8" dredge nozzle (necked down to 7")when I saw him next half his face was purple and bruised, he broke several teeth from biting the regulators mouth piece keeping it from being sucked in, 20+ stitches for the lacerations and horrifically wounded pride. without that flap he would be dead
Wouldn't have been easier to shut the motor down. We always dive with 2 people, and the guy running the dredge at the time would just turn the power down..
@@12madcow was 2 divers and had throttle control on the nozzle too. the orientation of the nozzle was such that access to it was impossible with dude sucked into the end and the flap was closer than the shut-off. couldn't see anything was wrong because the water was "smoked out" until I got to him and then took a second to actually figure out what was going on, at 1st i thought he was playing around, cuz i had no idea this was even possible. my dad gave a quick tutorial to the crew and we were off and running kinda atmosphere
@@12madcow you have good velocity at the nozzle , your pump is well sized for the hose , alot of guys F** that up by going to a hose thats too big and losing suction. are you using proline or keene pumps and what size ?
Lovely Gold Gents! Where did you get that spiral from please? I know can import from the US. But postage is too expensive. I live in Ozzy Land Take Care...

+Ray Rusaw nice, you going to use it on your dredge? Been trying to sort out what mats we are going to use on our new 8" we are going to build, but I think mike and doc are hiding from me..... Or they are busy on there new flash web site...
Doc has been super busy with the new mats and the web site plus a ton of people have been calling with conercial operations wanting to redoe the sluices
great video, you guys ain't f**kin' around! I wonder if you could run a hydraulic oil pipe line to some kind of ram to help move boulders under water (like tractor loader hydraulics)
man , i'd love to get in on some of this action, been looking for a claim for awhile but it seems all the good ones were taken a long time ago, only one i've looked at so far is a black sands beach claim, i'd rather be diving/dredging than just digging up the beach around Charleston
Yeah most of all the good spots will have a claim on them, what gear do you have? Haven't done any beach mining, but would like to have a look at that one day..
@@12madcow Yeah, sucks to come up and a bear is pawing the riffles. Just go back down and hope you don't run out of gas. Some dredges have rifle racks just for that reason.
Do you plan to get back to it next season? 🙏💜🙏💜🙏💜🙏💜
Hi, yep just sorting out the boxes at the moment.. Hope it's not going to flood this year..
Another good vid! Thanks for taking the time to make them 👍🏻. I am getting in my creek tomorrow with the 4" and my new heater.

Dangerous endeavor for sure; takes brave men only. Maybe even the desperate.
That dredge is a monster 👍🏻
Yeah, getting up there for a 8... Out of the 2, the old one is wee bit bigger, but doesn't do aswell when driving upstream

how hard is it to get permits and claims. They killed our suction dredging here in Oregon....
is that a 6 or 8" dredge mate
What state are you win
Just have to say I love the San Francisco 49ers hat you have
where can i get the machine separating the gold from the black sand?
Just make it... sluice box, water pump, magnets, plastic roller, and a motor to drive it..

It's just a keene gold wheel.. From nz
is that dual pumps and what size 6 inch
single.. 8"
where in nz can i go prospecting and run a slicebox?
If you google it you will find few free areas you can go.. Around Arrowtown is one.. this is as long as your not running a pump.
