That is the most dci tan line
I gotta say... I love the idea behind these break it down features, but coming from a teacher's standpoint, a lot of these corps members aren't doing the best job actually breaking down these licks... and I get it! they're getting the crap beat out of them mentally. But I know this lick starts out with 2 paradiddle-diddles and a 7 stroke roll. I read that from the sheets! And some of it's pretty straightforward, but maybe mention the hand speed change in the first bar to help the kids? Go through those open ruffs and a check that'll help younger players understand that 16:12 tuplet? Explain the toss visual at the end? There's so much potential with these videos to be truly educational, but right now, it seems like there's someone just telling me what's on the page and playing it back. Cool stuff, but I think it's time to up your game! :)
From a student's perspective, completely agreeable!
to you have any tips for understanding that 16 : 12 tuplet youtube and google are no help
@@TurtleTurtlez Take it as a 4 over 3 (4 notes being play over 3 beats). This modulation will be a tricky one, but will give you the map for this rhythm. Find that rhythm it will be your check. see the accents on the rhythm @:36 sticking will be R L R L
from there try and find 8 over 6, or the eighth note rhythm from 4 over 3. Sticking will be R r L l R r L l R
Then you just add some ruffs on the tap beats leading into the accent. viola 16 over 12
@@davidkeller9345 Thanks my man. Cleared it up super well.
While I agree, having seen the behind the scenes for these “Break it Down” videos, they give you zero preparation time to actually talk about it in detail. It normally happens like “Hey can you tell us really quick what you have there?” Shoot it in 5 minutes, then it’s done.
Oh his poor tan line
Nice carrier tan line
Those tan lines give me life
Oof, I would not want to be standing next to a while snareline that just did a fff gock shot... Ouch

This guy sounds like a bro
Look at that harness tan
Only two kinds of comments here, a few about drumming, a TON about tan lines.
carrier tan is looking pretty nice
nice gock bro
What segment of the show is this? (Drum break, opener, etc)
Drum break shortly after opener
Wait what kind of sticks or those
I believe Innovative Percussion FS-2s
@@thumper303 They're the Mike McIntosh models, lmao.
What tempo is this?
How do you do the 16:12 section?
Get the accents without the ruffs down first.
Starting on beat 2, the check is 2 a & e 1. (dotted eighth notes)
Alternately with the downbeats written in parentheses - 2 a(3) & (4)e 1.
If that isn't making any sense, ask your instructor for help with dotted eighth notes!
This guy has a carrier tan line
Tempo?
SiXtEeN:tWeLvE?????
That whole line has a tanline lol if you wore a shirt that's smart I guess.
Can't wait for this ruff trend (pun intended) to be over. Rest of the lick is cool, though.
Roberto Roboto I like these ruffs
👍
I think they use them smoothly here
It's just four ruffs right at the end...pretty anticlimactic, imo. It's like someone was trying to think about how to finish off the lick and thought "well, people are playing ruffs these days... let's just throw some of those in so they can not be balanced at finals".
Who tf decided to dislike?’!?!?!?
