Was in this bunker in September 1989 with dear old Ray Palmer of cios Jersey. Completely unrestored with the walls covered in 1946 to 1953 graffiti. Great time.

Superb video, expertly delivered, thanks for the information. It’s been quite a few years since I visited Jersey and remember this bunker just being renovated. Can’t wait to go back (COVID permitting) 👍

I was lucky to meet Engelbert Hoppe in the M19 on Liberation Day May 9 2007, where he signed my Jersey Bunkers book with a personnel message. he use to come over most years, as he said he and his crew was all liberated on that day. he was also responsible for the twinning of German towns with cities throughout the British Isles after the war. if you have the time, please read Malcolm Amy's blog on Engelbert.

What was being defended by these bunker systems that was so important? Why would the Allies invade Jersey??!! What would be the tactical advantage?

Ive visited Jersey twice and loved visiting these bunkers. Some of the bunkers are open at certain times of the year but are manned by volunteers so that would dictate if bunkers opened as advertised.
