Undun is not weird - it's just cool, west coast jazz vocal styling with a backbeat.
Right on !!!✌✌
With that nifty Chet Atkins-style countrypolitan guitar postlude. So creative.
@@jdw5678 Yep - Randy was a great fan of Chet Atkins and Atkins was a good friend to Randy.
No doubt! Saw this and said “yeah I wanna hear this again”. It’s awesome.
Absolutely! One of the coolest songs I've ever heard 🙂
Regards from Chile.
I grew up with this great Canadian band. Burton Cummings learned to play the flute for this song "Undun". Some of their biggest hits are "These Eyes", "Laughing" "No Time", "No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature", "Hand Me Down World", "Share The Land", "Bus Driver", "Star Baby", "Albert Flasher", "Rain Dance" etc. Burton Cummings has one of the best voices out there. Randy Bachman later left to form (BTO) Bachman Turner Overdrive & had many hits. And Burton Cummings had a great solo career.
Even their songs that were not big hits were excellent! Rocking and Artificial Paradise had some great songs!
I agree! Don't forget "Stand Tall." One of my favorites.
@@suzanneprock7286 Stand Tall was Burton solo. It would be another long list to name all his solo hits.
Burton Cummings was originally a sax player that's why the flute came easy to him as the fingering is the same.
I met Gary Peterson after a gig in ohio.... it was quick, but he did give me a pair of his sticks, with his name and The Guess Who on them.
Simply brilliant pop song. Burton Cummings is one of the greatest rock vocalists ever. Guess Who could do any style of music.
Absolutely!!
These Eyes is a great ballad of theirs. My dad played it so much. I know the lyrics by heart. Burton Cummings is a tremendous vocalist. Great unique vibrato.
@joelhammond4162 , have to share this. My sister and my nephew who was 8 or 9 at the time were in the car when These Eyes came on the radio. He was singing along then uttered " Levis" instead of These Eyes 🤣😂 misheard lyrics at its' best.
@@stellarichard4060 That's brilliant, would make a great ad campaign.
LAUGHING ❤❤❤❤
Oh yeah
There's only one Burton Cummings. His voice is so unique and singular you can always tell when it's him singing.
'' These Eyes '' is the best track for me ❤
"No Time"
Same! Saw BC in concert a couple years ago and, at 75ish?, he went solid for two hours 😮. Still gives me goosebumps 😊
"These Eyes", THAT'S a track that was ahead of its time.
Even though this song is old, it never gets old. It sounds great every time!
According to Burton Cummings he had never played the flute until he was in a music shop and the proprietor told him the fingering was the same as the sax, which Burton had played. He bought one and played it on this tune on stage that very same night. Take that with a grain of salt if you will but that's the story.
You have to hear him sing these eyes you like that one too but not only does he play piano he plays that flute and what I heard I don't know if I'll get this right that he learned to play that only months before he did this song so he could play the flute in the video. And I read that he is still entertaining at age75 and doing good especially in Canada. Back in the day Robert Plant even said he was one of the best singers that's a big compliment coming from him.
Heard the song on the radio a million times, but never ever have I heard that bit on the end before.
Same here.
Really? I've heard that ending many, many times. Odd.
Me neither!
First time for me too!
There are a number of those little musical interludes between the tracks on the album.
Flute in Rock?? Oh yeah, Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull is unsurpassed. No argument can be said.
Moody Blues featured a flute.
@@cindyknudson2715 Yes, but they didn't "rock" it like Ian Anderson nor regularly featured the flute in most of their music.
Focus.
Peter Gabriel in Genesis played some
Yeah Mike if these guys are talking flute they got to start listening to Jethro Tull.
This was a groovy blend of contemporary (late 60s) jazz/blues/rock and it was very popular. The singer Burton Cummings did a great job conveying a special vibe on this tune. FYI - solos were on all these songs from back then because pop songs were limited on duration for airplay.
Burton Cummings has such an amazing voice. You really need to do "These Eyes" next.
These eyes ... One of my favorite songs.. brings back deepest memories. The kind you only let out at 3am.
Great band, good song but "These Eyes" and "No Sugar Tonight" are my faves. These Eyes is one of the best post break-up songs ever for sure.
yes, These Eyes
I love Evan's cover of it in Superbad. He nailed it!
The drummer just kills it on this song. His fills are timely
"No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature", same music, but 2 diff sets of lyrics, one by Cummings, the other, Bachman.
"Hand Me Down World" is also amazing.
Their greatest song is "These eyes" I was born in 1965 and I grew up listening to all the most awesome songs and singers EVER!! THEY COULD ACTUALLY SING! NO HELP FROM COMPUTERS AND AUTO TUNE! Musicians could play real instruments! There's so so many artists that would blow any of these singers today out of their shoes that think they can sing! That's why most gen x and older only listen to what we grew up with 50s 60s, 70's, 80's and some 90's. Nowadays not even close to what real music really is! Search the song "star baby" by the guess who. That's another kind of fun beachy 60 s song! Enjoy the greatest music and singers in our lifetime ❤❤
"These Eyes," a relatively slow ballad about heartbreak from a failed relationship, is an especially fascinating song in that it was the first single and breakthrough hit for the band in America. It could be argued that The Guess Who were one of the rare bands, outside The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, in rock music that charted ballads, midtempo, and uptempo driving rock songs as big hits during the 1960s to early 1970s.
Another beautiful song with a flute solo is " Colour My World" by Chicago.
The Guess Who is a band from my childhood. I consider it one of the top road trip bands to listen to. Burton Cummings was awesome!
No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature is EVERYTHING. Trust me, it’s a must.
I've heard this song at least 10 thousand times and it gets better every time.............
these eyes should next.😊
Great song!
Share the Land; No Time; and Hand Me Down World are three more great songs
I've listened to this song a million times and never heard that last part 🤔 The Guess Who is one of Canada's best bands.
I was 9 yrs old when this song came out. I really liked it and have remembered it all these years. Good memories!
'''''Burton Cummings is so under rated. I loved this band. Do "Stand Tall" or "These Eyes" next. You wouldn't believe how good Burton Cummings is live.
Stand tall is one of my favorites!
Never nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Never even been nominated!!
Check out their song Share the Land. Great song with a cool guitar intro.
I think there is too much of a battle of who the Guess Who actually is even now. Recently main founders Randy and and Burton sued the "legal" owners of the band for abusing the bands name playing carnivals with only one minor original member. As the Randy and Burton left the band they relinquished the name...found out later that was a huge mistake.
1st time ever hearing that outro, out of thousand times hearing this song.
The lead guitarist was Randy Bachman, who would go on to form BTO (Bachman Turner Overdrive). The sound of his solo lead guitar was ahead of its time. Quite a nice fluid sustain. Randy’s son, Tal Bachman, had a pop radio hit in 1999 “She’s So High.” They have radio shows and a YT channel together and perform a variety of music together.
One of the greatest bands ever
This is my favorite Guess Who song. My favorite part is the amazing bassline.
The Guess Who have many, many hits. These Eyes and No Time were huge radio hits in Canada. New Mother Nature/No Sugar Tonight is two songs in one, the first half by Cummings the second by Bachman. Just look up their hits and you can't go wrong.
Your take is interesting. Let me start by saying I appreciate your willingness to examine this song and as much as your personal experience and your knowledge of music makes you a bit confused as to its intrinsic value, still you grabbed on to some ingredients in this song that made you question what you're used to and allowed you to appreciate what the tune has. As soon as you can divorce yourselves from what you're conditioned to you are free to appreciate what's right there in front of your face. Congratulations. You guys are very discerning. Also there's no denying the musicality and the phenomenal voice of Burton Cummings. I'm lucky in that I was only 7 when this came out and I was free to enjoy it with no preconceived notions.
Burton Cummings . . . The best voice in classic rock.
I live in Clarksville, IN and I'm pushing 60 years old and I think your channel is absolute fire.
I’m 64 in CT and I agree!
@@leetroy3129 I live directly across the Ohio River from these guys.
Thanks for reacting to this song guys. It is my favorite Guess Who song. It was actually the "B" side of the 45 record of a single they released called "Laughing", but was played on radio stations and became extremely popular. I also recommend a song from Burton Cummings solo career called "A Song For Him" which I think you would like. And as other commenters have pointed out, the Guess Who have a lot of great songs that are worth checking out.
Edit: I posted before I watched your video and no, I've never heard the music at the end either.
The name is Cummings , Burton Cummings
"Stand Tall" is my fav of Cummings' solo work, but "A Song for Him" is great too.
The Guess Who are most probably what I would call the granddaddies of Canadian rock.
Thank you, thank you guys for reacting to Undun. My favourite Guess Who song. You are right, Nick, it rewards more listening and really grows on you. Have never heard that outro before...
I've always been a fan of "No Time". Especially the fuzzy, crunchy guitar.
The live version that Ringo Star's travelling Allstars does with Burton is very good.
The Guess Who was one of my first loves when I was in grade school, they were very popular and had several hits. You guys have just scratched the surface with this group.
These Eyes and No Time are my favorites but I like the others too! I love Burton Cummings’ voice...he’s a fantastic rock singer!!♥️
I love this song. It's my favorite Guess Who song...so cool.
This band was great a lot of big hits
That ending was so dope! Lots of fun!!
The single version didn't have that ending outro part. Some other great tracks are "These Eyes", "Laughing", "No Time", and "Share The Land".
Burton Cummings the singer is playing the flute solo between singing.
My favorite song by them, but there are lots of great tunes to choose from.
Moody Blues - ‘Nights in White Satin’ has one of the most memorable flute solos. Burton Cummings is one of the best vocalists of that era imo and that flute solo was him playing. Also, of all the countless times I’ve listened to this song I’ve never ever heard that guitar solo at the end, so like you guys I was also caught off guard. Great reaction guys!
If you want to hear some good flute in rock n roll check out Jethro Tull. So many good songs but these are my favorites. Cross Eyed Mary. Hymn 43. Teacher…..
This song, Undun, gets very jazzy at the end. Love it!
Yeah. I’ve never heard that at the end of the song before.
Wow, Great song by a great Canadian band... Thanks guys
Guess Who just a great band with good songs. Hang On To Your Life.
My favorite Guess Who song! Vocalist Burton Cummings had a successful solo career and is still touring.
My favorite also. So atmospheric. In the same universe as "Green-Eyed Lady."
Another great one is “These Eyes”
Down under by men at work will give you a lot of flute from an 80's song. Great reaction!

Randy Bachman went on to form Bachman Turner Overdrive or BTO. Check out some BTO.
I am 53 and I loved being raised to this music. It is one of my Dad's favorite bands. Great stuff right here!
I have not heard this song, when I looked at the year of release I was very surprised, for 1969 it sounds very modern.
Nice review. I only ever had the Guess Who's greatest hits, but I listened to that CD many times. Never really knew who the singer was, but I did know the guy had/has some incredible pipes. They've got a lot of good tunes. Check out These Eyes, No Sugar, No Time.
This is one of my favorite Guess Who songs..Burtons has a such an amazing voice. Great reaction guys!
My hometown boys from Winnipeg, Canada. We are one of the prairie provinces where we grow a lot of wheat and it was a take off on the name of a band in the 60's called Canned Heat. This song has more of a jazzy feel. Lenny Breau who was one of Canada's premiere jazz guitarists lived down the street from Randy Bachman the lead guitarist (In the hat) and Randy was influenced by him in some of his music. To see an absolutely killer version of American Woman please check out the 14 minute version live in Winnipeg from their reunion tour in 2004. It is a banger!
Cheers
You must do "These Eyes" next.
Guess Who are among the god of Rock n' Roll and are so so underrated. If you knew about Burt Bacharach who was a dominate songwriter of the 60's. He wrote a lot Jazz ballets...like "Walk On By" and "Do you Know The Way To San Jose." In the Spirit of Burt and Frank Sinatra the group composed the Musicality of this song. You guys must remember That Tom Jones...Frank Sinatra....Dean Martin ...... Burt Bacharach....The Crooners were really popular in the 60's.....spo the genre of the music influenced The Guess Who.
My favorite Guess Who song! Easily! Loved seeing you guys react, so thanks!
Just think, when we were kids we only had MONO! As Steely Dan says, "FM, No static at all"
The song was over, I’ve never heard that final bit before, in 50 years! But I loved it
I've been introduced to so many cool bands on your channel. Thanks so much! This is a really cool song. Your reaction videos are brilliant 👏
I love the bass on this song. Great reaction !!
The “Jazz flute”! 🤣
This song is 🔥
The guess who has a lot of hit songs.
One of my favorite albums in the early seventies was their Greates Hits album--didn't include that little epilogue on this song tho, I think you might only find that on the Canned Wheat album. "These Eyes" and "No Time" are two of the better songs left to do. But an underappreciated one that is really good and almost approaches heavy metal is "Hang On to Your Life".
Love the Guess who!!! Jazzy Rock band
Have you done locomotive breath? Great flute.
Flutes are all the same size, the smaller thing is a piccolo.
Here are some other 70's songs with great flute parts; "Heard It In A Love Song" by Marshall Tucker Band and two by Firefall; "You Are The Woman" and "Strange Way."
It is said that John Lennon of the Beatles said that Burton Cummings was his favorite singer. Back in the 60' and 70's FM radio stations played all kinds of music. You could hear the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, John Denver, Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Righteous Brothers, Simon and Garfunkle, The Beach Boys, The Lettermen, The 5th Dimension, Neil Diamond, and The Association within one hour. We were exposed to a multitude of musical styles. This was before music became formulaic. Bands were encouraged to develop their style and create hits but they could follow their artistry. You should check out No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature. They squished two songs into one song. There was a band around the same time named "Canned Heat". They put out an album with their heads sticking out of a soup can.
So many good songs from the Guess Who. You need to hear the Grass Roots song Feelings, very cool and so 60s.
You have to do 'No Time' next!
Yeah the panning left to right was quintessential and experimental production of late ‘60s. Btw, both this song and “Time of the Season” from the Zombies came out in ‘69. I’ve also noticed that the “chic-ahh’s” are similar to the “chic-ahh” in “Time of the Season.”🤔
If you want more flute, Jethro Tull will knock your socks off lol. Not only is Ian Anderson (lead singer/instrumentalist) a virtuous-level flute player, he is a consummate showman. On stage, he whirls around like a mad medieval court jester, gyrating wildly across the stage and mugging mischievously. But the lyrics are always deep and thought-provoking. Just don't start with the song "Aqualung." A lot of reactors start their JT journey with Aqualung because it is one of their most-famous songs, but ironically it contains no flute playing.
No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature is a must Guess Who song.
I had their greatest hits album back in the 70s, great stuff man
Nick?!? Your face is great! We were all thinking you'd be thinking Sponge Bob!! Yes, Ryan, his voice is incredible. And, Tyler, love when you sing! Always on key ;-) The drums are fab! The Guess Who are still underrated. Nick, you really described it all well! Groovy!
A brilliant song that really showcases that early 70's West Coast jazzy coolness.
Saw the Guess Who in '71 in Dallas with great opening bands Gypsy and Wishbone Ash, both of those bands deserve credit for their contribution to early 70's rock scene.
My absolute favorite from this band! It has a cool jazz rock vibe. (I don’t know what the hell that instrumental bit was after the song!)
Robert Plant once called Burton Cummings: "lead singer with one hell of a voice", next Guess Who song should be "No Sugar Tonight / New Mother Nature".
Another good Canadian Jem to react to is "Doucette - Mama Let Him Play".
If you listen closely most of The Guess Who songs are singing about the United States as a Country! It's about how Burton Cummings felt about it! He didn't want to tour here! And wanted to stay in Canada, but Randy Bachman wanted to come here! Burton talked about this many years ago!
Randy Bachman formed Bachman Turner Overdrive after after the Guess Who..He wrote a song originally titles White Collar Man that was changed to Taking Care of Business.Elvis heard the song and asked if he could license TCB Randy agreed...Elvis gave him a gold TCB logo gold necklace.
Reminds me of 7th grade.
Burton Cummings is/was THE most underrated voice in rock.
For the best Flute solo, you have to listen to Chicago’s Colour my world!!
Man, I can see why Tarantino used this, right up his alley. You guys say you don't know any other Guess Who tracks but I assure you if you're fans of Superbad you will know "These Eyes". :)
Annie Lennox (of The Eurythmics) studied flute and harpsichord. Very rarely she used them in the '80s & '90s.
Funny thing about the flute being an 'acquired' taste. Archaeologists have found stone age bone flutes (flutes made from femurs of largish animals) with hole spacings more or less in a chromatic scale, like now. The fact is is that ancient humans invented the flute and acquired the taste in the stone age, and it's been with us ever since. Right up there with bangin' rocks together.
Thanks for the Guess Who Reaction! I have been a Fan of theirs since they came out and served Burton Dinner a few times and talked to him a bit! The Two songs you reacted to were okay. It by far their est Songs are ,These Eyes, I’m Scared,, Stand Talk ! Sorry I don’t have , Laughing, Clap for the Wolfman, Share the Land ,Albert Flasher!
One of the coolest songs ever and very different from anything they ever did. Probably my favorite by them. Besides American Woman, they had two big hits in the US, These Eyes and No Time, which you would really get into. I would also strongly recommend No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature, Share The Land and a deep cut banger, Hang Onto Your Life, which will blow your mind. Keep riding the Guess Who train dudes!
These Eyes; No Sugar Tonight
Hey guys, if you liked the jazzy vibe in Undun, try another Randy Bachman-penned tune from his next band (after leaving the Guess Who), BTO: "Blue Collar". Talk about a sweet, jazzy little number, this song is brilliant, and immaculately played.
“UnDun” and “Blue Collar” are two of my favourite songs of all time.
What about "Takin Care of Business"!
back in the 70s, we all had stereo systems. turntable, amp, and good headphones so you can hear the tracks playing in stereo. groovy.
Thank you guys; views from 502. Im older guy 70s classic rocker and you guys have my attention and appreciate your enjoyment and reactions🎂🎊
BC has one of the greatest voices of this era...or ever! Definitely some scattin'! Agreeing with Dagmar S., "These Eyes" will have you guys swaying and loving some keyboard sync. This tune is fantastic, though, and after a few listens, you'll be hooked. You have to check out more of TGW, but have you done any Jethro Tull yet?!? I'm still catching up, this one same day. Woohoo! Keep up the great work, guys.
Yeah there’s a lot of good shit, check it out brothers ❤
