    The most admirable thing here is that Columbo overcame his fear of blood and hospitals and forced himself to watch Dr. Mayfield during the surgery in order to save Dr. Hideman’s life and nail the killer. That was brave !

    Most people watching this clip who don't have an in-depth familiarity with the full episode might think that Leonard Nimoy's performance was weak after he got hit with Columbo's gotcha evidence. Nimoy responds almost as if he's nonchalantly saying to himself, "Oh well, that was a little goof. I should have removed the sutures from the pocket of Columbo's gown when I had the chance immediately after he left my office." But Nimoy's acting in this episode was actually very believable throughout, including this gotcha scene. That's because the Dr. Mayfield character is one of the most heartless and psychopathic in the entire series, all the more sinister because he was a respected surgeon.

    • @martinfinn1550
      @martinfinn1550 Рік тому +3

      I interpreted that as simply him not expecting Columbo to come back into to his office, and that he had all time in the world to dispose of the sutures.

      In all seriousness, that could be a possibility in a court of law. By his own admission the one person they didn't search was Columbo who came into the operating room wearing the surgical gown, so Mayfield's defence team could have argued that Columbo came in there with the dissolving sutures already in his pocket to implicate Mayfield. Also Columbo touched the suture with his bare hands. No case for Columbo as the DA would throw it out on contaminated evidence.

    • @patrickjohnson5658
      @patrickjohnson5658 Рік тому +1

      @@Romulan2469 Not really. A forensic analysis of the dissolving sutures in Columbo's pocket would prove they had just come from inside the patients body as they would have traces of his internal bodily fluids on them. The mondo Columbus shows are very short always less than 10 minutes because of the primitive mondo TVs they had back then. The old old old TVs could not hold more than 10 minutes of show as they used CRT Catholic Ray Tubs technology and non Dylan Mulvaney CLT or Claw Technology. No harm no fowl.
