    Is this the eyelet you are talking about in the video? www.etsy.com/listing/679463158/vintage-singer-buttonhole-eyelet?ref=related-4&frs=1

      Yes, that is the one. You see the price is crazy. They are rare to find no I guess. I'll pin your comment to the top so others can see the eyelet template to know what I was mentioning. Very kind of you, Angel. 🙏 Thanks much.

      The Singer Featherweight Shop has eyelet templates. I think they're 3-D printed.

      They sure can make a beautiful buttonhole. I remember my sister using the "Extended" buttonhole method to outline the slash-pockets she made for a western jacket.

    Thanks again andy. I got a green treasure chest with my 301. I’ll check the part number and the great info you gave us before I use it. Enjoy your weekend.

      Welcome. I will be explaining the green treasure chest model (and the other ones too) in part 4 of this series. The green treasure chest model is the straight needle, not slant, but the models do get mixed up with the boxes, so yes, check for the slant number and features. Thanks for watching.

    I hooked up my 301a one night and another one and I saw how it zigzag but then I put my mom's autopilot on it and I noticed how it just goes in a circle and it needs to be used with a zigzag machine it was pretty interesting

    I’ve got a 201 that was my grandmother’s and a 319. I’d love to see some videos on those, particularly the 319 because I want to clean it up inside and out :)

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  5 років тому

      Congratulations. I've been told the 201 is the Rolls-Royce of Singer straight stitch machines. I have heard the 319 called the "Piano" or "typewriter" machine referring to the 6 or 7 levers up on the top near the handwheel. I have never touched let alone owned either machine, only talked about them with Singer repair guys before. I remember there are about 7 or 8 versions of the 319 and that is has a vertical timing belt with metal bands or cleats. Timing belt (Simanco #189542). If I ever become an owner of one or the other I would surely do a series. Otherwise, I have 350+ restoration videos you could get some Ideas from and give the cleaning, oiling, etc. a go on your own. The parts can vary, but the principle of a sewing machine is all the same. If you need an instruction manual for the 319 (116 pages, whew) it is free here: www.singer.com/sites/default/files/product_manual/SINGER%20319%20and%20319K%20Sewing%20Machine.pdf
      A 3-page parts diagram with numbers is free here: parts.singerco.com/CPpartCharts/3_39999/319K.pdf
      I tried to find and emailed about a service or adjustors manual for the 319 but no joy in finding one, sigh...
      Thanks for your sub and for watching my channel. Good Luck.

    Great video Andy . I learned a lot . Like I bought the wrong buttonholer for my old singer . I got the green plastic oval one and I have a 301A singer . then the numbers don't match from the book to the buttonholer and the screw is missing . ARGHHH !!! I'm really looking forward to the second part of the video just so I can find out which machine my buttonholer is for . lol . Can't wait . Great job Andy . I'm learning more with every video you put out . Thank-You very much .

      Thank you. I bought the wrong one a couple of times when I started restoring machines. Hoping videos like these will help avoid problems for a few people.
      The green oval or "Jetson" box works for Singer Straight Needle ZIgZag machine. I will be talking about it in part 4, but in the meantime did you see my 6 part series on cleaning and lubricating the buttonholer model you have?

    Hello! Which buttonholer works with my Singer 338?

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  5 років тому

      The Jade/Green Jetson model is the straight shank/needle buttonholer that works well with Model 338. You can also search for the professional model Singer buttonholer, just be sure to get the straight not slant model. Check out the Jetson model here: ua-cam.com/play/PLsCOZgzzaiKIVBGEISHzZeWVk8-IxpHw0.html

    I can’t seem to find the definitive answer. Does this buttonholer only work on machine 301?

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  Рік тому

      No. The BH in this video is Model 160743 Slant-needle 1952 Red Treasure Chest. It was the first slant needle BH and Singer made it for the first slant needle sewing machine, the model 301. Prior to that (by one year) SInger made the Model 160506 Low shank 1951 Green Treasure Chest. The red chest model moves the fabric b/c the 301 is not a zigzag machine. I have used this BH on Singer models 401A, 403A, 404, 500A, and 503A. All of those models are ZZ machines except the 404. On a slant needle ZZ machine you must set the machine for straight stitch. The singer made 6 BH that I know of:
      Model 121795 Low shank 1939
      Model 160506 Low shank 1951 Green Treasure Chest
      Model 160743 Slant-needle 1952 Red Treasure Chest
      Model 489500 Low shank 1960 Green Oval - Jetson
      Model 489510 Slant-needle 196 Pink Oval - Jetson
      Professional Buttonholer Slant-needle 1967
      and there may be others, IDK.
      The later model BHs were made for use on ZZ machines.
      Viewers of my channel have told me they have used the red chest BH on Singer slant needle models 6xx & 7xx as long as the machine is set to straight stitch.
      There are about 3 different "plates" to use with the different models but myself and others have just used the normal needle plate on the machine with good results.
      The low shank model BHs can be used on most low shank machines with good results.
      In general, if the BH case is red or pink it is a slant needle BH and if the case is black, green, or turquoise it is a low shank BH.
      Low shank and straight shank terms are the same as far as SInger models.
      I don't know how " definitive" my answer is for you, but that's all I have.
      Thanks for watching my channel.

    Will this work on the slant 404?

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  2 роки тому

      It surely will 👍 Both the 301 & 404 are straight stitch slant-needle models. It works well. Thanks for asking.

    Will this work on my 403a?

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  11 місяців тому +1

      Yes, it will, but there is a newer version that many like to use on the 400/500 Slant machines. It comes in a pink case that came to be known as the "Jetson" case. The pink case is for slant needle machines and the green (jade) case is for straight needle machines. Here is a Pink Jetson for sale today on eBay: www.ebay.com/itm/394773167837?hash=item5bea507edd:g:oxYAAOSwh4RkTV~Q I made a playlist for cleaning and adjusting the green one, but the devices are identical EXCEPT for the connecting shanks, one for straight and one for slant. Here is the playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLsCOZgzzaiKIVBGEISHzZeWVk8-IxpHw0.html
      With some practice, all the SInger buttonholers make beautiful buttonholes, IMO.
      Thanks for watching my channel and good luck.
