Do you believe that a sum of one million dollar would be sufficient for a foreigner to live comfortably in Thailand? What are the most lucrative investment opportunities available in Thailand for foreigners seeking advice?
Wow, that’s definitely the longest time I’ve ever heard. Perhaps you’ve got a good story and maybe we can have an interview. if you’re interested, email me: leeluap@gmail.com
@@aniwee17 Paul & Forest need to double interview this guy. From 20s to 70s? That's golden record of experience. I'm convinced Asia is where action is for next 3 decades.
Hi Paul! I'm a Thai-American who has plans to retire in Thailand in 2-3 years. I came to SoCal at the age of 2 and I never thought I'd ever return to the country of my birth but as I got into my 50s, Thailand became more appealing. I'm truly grateful to my adopted country for the opportunities it has afforded me but Thailand has something magical that draws me to it. It's hard to explain but those who have been bitten by the Thailand bug know exactly what I'm talking about. The only way I can describe it is the Hawaiian word OHANA. It means FAMILY. Thai culture is OHANA, a sense of family and community, whereas, here in the USA, it's individualism. This is why you call people unrelated to you Pee (older brother) Paah (auntie) Loong (uncle). Thailand will offer me the peace and solitude that I'm seeking in my golden years. The fact that there are 4 women for every man in Thailand isn't bad either!
Considering that current Cali government is on the task to destroy families, it is a smart move to go where the family values are still intact of at least some remains.
i agree with the incentive thing..i moved from CA to GA cause it was super hard to live in CA....now we're moving to thailand cause it's super hard to live in the US.
I really miss Thailand, I will move back after my son goes to college. No place like Thailand, I live in Hong Kong, the US and Germany but in general including many comparisons with good and bad things in Thailand, still it’s number one
Paul is a considerate person though just 28. Thailand fits you as far as you feel happy & safe, surrounded with friendship... Just believe in yourself.
You made a great decision. Your videos are productive to watch and learn. People like you. You have a wonderful friendship. The interview was very authentic. The streets and the city look very clean even being in an urban area. Good show.
Great conversation between the two of you and thanks for sharing it with us. Really enjoyed it! I think having a like minded person to speak with brings out a lot more interesting angles to life. At least coffees on me☕
You, Forrest, and several others on UA-cam have definitely given me insight and influenced my decision to leave the states. I'm over 50 now so I qualify for the retirement visa, but I'm not in a financial situation yet to pick up and leave right away. I've got to get something set up to survive until I can start getting into my 401k and IRA. I really need to look into your online program. I wish I had taken the initiative and left at your age, but I don't think the world and the internet was at that point in the 90's. Keep putting out the great content and giving me hope for a better life in Thailand!
grengjai / เกรงใจ can't be defined as just considerate or courteous ! It would take a couple of pages to explain and understand the different ways Thai people use and understand this word grengjai. The concept of grengjai and face are woven into each other. Also grengjai is partially based on fear, as greng means to be afraid. Forrest only brushed over the meaning. I doubt he even understands it completely.

@xuimod - Please enjoy your parents to the fullest! My mom passed away at 82 unexpectedly five years ago and every day I wish I had more time with her.
Great video, guys! I’m 20 and 30 years older than you both, respectively - age 58. I lived in Taiwan 1994-2006, was mostly happy, and often thought I’d never leave. The digital age, however, wasn’t yet fully in swing. When my children reached the ages of 6 and 3, I couldn’t see a way to be a good husband and father going forward as a pre-school and cram school teacher, and I somewhat reluctantly returned to the U.S. and became a high school teacher (Hawaii…as close as you can come to leaving America without actually leaving America!). I have no regrets, as I’ve had a great career as a teacher and parent in the 50th state, and my wife and two children have thrived and are now college graduates with career-entry jobs. But if I were 20 or 30 years younger as yourselves and had to make the same decision over again, and if it were 2024 not 2006, I’d stay in Taiwan and find a way to continue my unique existence in an Asian country via the incredible possibilities that the Internet and globalization have made available to adventurous people who don’t want to live out their lives in the countries in which they were born and raised. Now, almost two decades later, I’m looking forward to retiring somewhere in SE Asia - probably either Thailand or Malaysia. You young UA-camrs are providing me with a wealth of information as well as inspiration. Here’s to both of you! To allude to Morrissey and the Smiths, UA-camrs of the world, unite and take over!
Thailand supposedly wants to attract more wealthy people but the change in tax law expected next year is a game stopper. I usually live in Bangkok 8 months a year but will need to stay under 180 days starting next year to avoid tax consequences.
Yea the new tax law sucks:'( I'm still confused about it though, earlier I heard that the law takes effect Jan 2024, and now I've been hearing next year 2025?
Im so glad to see someone who isn’t 10 something tall about their experience for a change. When ur young u can go anywhere and are down for whatever . When ur grown grown you have different needs and it’s nice to here this perspective. What his wants and reasons and how Thailand fits that.
I can't be the only one who feels that Forrest gives off an awful vibe. In this interview and his channel he seems very bitter and antagonistic about everything and keeps talking down about people who live an ordinary lifestyle. Love Paul as a vlogger, very respectful and unbiased.
Love this collab! dang Forrest doesn't look almost 40! Thanks y'all for this~ Thailand is awesome 💕 and hbd!! amazing you make 6 figures online! dreammm Subscribing to learn more 🙏
Unfortunately, most people are close minded and thinking outside the box, moving, relocating, travelling, investing, etc. Seems unrealistic or scary for some. Like you said, where there's a will there is a way! Financial literacy I would argue is one of the most important things to learn before uprooting from a country like the USA though, there is a lot of opportunity in USA but as Forrest said, once you are established there is more value in other places around the world. If places like the USA and Canada did more to incentivize high value people to stay, then we would not be seeing people fleeing in droves like they are now.
When you are asking about "what you don't know", I think it is more of an inner thing than an outer thing. Since you are 28, your body is still young and you have lots of energy. When someone is late 30's, they realize they don't have the energy they once had and that the energy levels are only decreasing. It is not about "realizing something later on" as you are thinking.
With that said, I recommend you focus your energy one what your life goals are and do it now. Is it starting a family? Starting a specific business? Whatever it is, do it now as you now have the time to. Once you are in late 30's the time is limited.
I live in Florida and visited Patong Beach twice this year. I loved how nice the locals are as well as the businesses in the Paradise Complex area. Once I found a local to help me, I learned to love the food also. The heat is oppressive (I thought our heat was bad!). The roads, sidewalks, electric wires and the public schools are examples of how low a priority infrastructure is. The large number of buildings falling apart is concerning. My new friends think I am rich because I'm from the USA. They complain about working all day and not making money when there are no customers. I tried to explain if they want to get ahead they need to join together, pull their funds, and support each other. They lack the education to get ahead, I feel bad for them.
Paul says he isn't rich, though in America the average person doesn't make 100,000 and up. So compared to the average person for even in America he is rich or well off. At the end of the video he stated he made 6 figures . So for Thailand he is very rich. As the average Thai family to live in Chiang mai probably makes about 20,000 baht and up.
The cost of living in America is very high. It’s not necessarily anti America but we begin to realize what real freedom is outside America and that we want more time to enjoy life with family and loved ones instead of just being stuck at work. You made the right decision to move to Thailand.
Don’t be swayed by the comments Paul. You’re industrious enough that you’ll always find a way to earn a comfortable living and lead a good quality life. Worry is a useless emotion for you, bcos you’ve got the mentality of a winner, and that will always steer you. Happy Birthday, enjoy yourself and be calm, there’s nothing for you to worry about. 🤘🙏
I personally don't care what peoples opinion of my "privelage" is when I'm creating content. My audience isn't Thai people. Most of them don't understand English well enough to be a part of my audience nor should they and I'm not targeting them. My audience is other English speakers from Western countries and I'm showing life through the lens of that privelage and what it is for US. So, if they want to call me privelaged then whatever I truly don't care it's a ignorant take. I do try to be mindful when I say it's more affordable I add "for us" to clarify what I mean. First off - Happy Birthday!! 🎉 Awesome that you get to be there on your birthday! 🥳 Second… Keep up the awesome work - have really enjoyed your content! And third, YES - goooo where you are treated best! 💯 I aim to move to Bangkok in the next year or so because I firmly believe that Thailand as a whole is one of the best places to live, but also - kinda how Forrest said - you’ve got so many amazing options in the neighbouring countries and that part of the world too 🌏 Focus on what you want your life to be - there’ll be haters & doubters, but you’ve also got supporters & believers, so… Positive vibes amigo! 😎🤙🏻

Aw happy late birthday 🎉. I guess leaving by yourself is scary as a girl since I would be by myself, but I’m getting to that point lmao. I’m not rich, but I wouldn’t mind going. I haven’t decided where I want to go overseas yet, but I’ll figure out sometime. Just feel like I want to bloom somewhere I enjoy staying. Super goals to find a guy like this too
Bruv, it’s funny how I’m turning 28 too and leaving to move there too in 3 months. It’s like I’m going to be 21 again and just drop everything and leave.
Consider yourself very lucky. You don't know how eager I am to visit Bangkok and if possible stay there. It's the best city in the world for me, better than even New york or Chicago
Im 40 now and planning to move next year to BKK on an Elite Visa, yet i dont see many youtubers on that type of visa. Is it just becauce of the price? Im sure this is the easiest way to stay in Thailand right?
@@carlyndolphin im from Belgium and have a house i rent out and stock/crypto investments. I wish you best of luck on your new adventure in the Thailand
thanks for this video paul. i stopped following forrest when he's so much against paying tax in the states which i think we all should FAIRLY pay - we can argue about how to spend it but paying tax is a form of investment & shared responsibility to make a society work; we got some privileges from it and should pay back & also pay forward to the next gen. there as well. but he redeemed himself (in my estimate ;) ) suggesting to be appreciative of those privileges, be humble and generous to the thai people around here now as recognition to the continued privileges that we've experienced. so 2 thumbs up for both of you to have your heads & hearts in the right places. you'll be ok here in thailand for as long as you want, if there's a will then there's a way. and you're holding some of the solutions in your bank right now.. (as the old american saying: money talks, bullsh*t walks... hehe) cheers!!!
Absolutely. I have also pointed out Forrest's short sighted views on taxes. Ironically, he's by and large a huge beneficiary of US taxpayer funded programs from free education, time in the military, to his parent's government jobs and pension. But remember as he once said, "Taxes does nothing for the people" as if he bootstrapped his way through life all by himself.
good video, Forest is right, money is necessary in order to solve most issues, I agree 100%, you do not need to be very rich, 1-2 million invested making passive income and you are set for life
The word “privileged” seems to be a trigger word for those that are jealous or envious of others. I live in NYC and LA both for work, I don’t consider myself privileged that I may get shot walking down the street or carjacked. I don't see myself ‘privileged” for that. Not with the awful crime rates in the US. Now I do consider myself “lucky”, “fortunate” to have been born in this country to make myself the income with hard work and diligence. Don’t let people drop the “privilege’ word. Envious and jealous folks. Good job my man and let the negativity folks hit you with roll right off.
I love your conversation mentioning about the US privilege. I sorry to say that some people get this western privilege then look down people in developing nations.
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your freedom & imagine always what you want it to be period! Never bother worrying about the negative probably jealous folks. Your life is your life....your time is yours to spend how you want to spend it. There is no guilt in what your doing & if you earned your way without stealing it there is nothing wrong with having that & using it how you please 😉 Enjoy & Happy Birthday 🎂
the majority of thai ppl love having their traditional food which might not b expensive such somtum, boat noodle and so on. those cheap food are their preference. so they can spend 300 thb daily and not more than 500thb.
As long as you have money coming in you will be able to stay somehow, it's that simple. I recommend investing in real estate in a "first world" country and/or dividend producing stocks / ETF so eventually you can live off that passive income without needing any job or business (as you probably won't be able to run any when you're old)
I currently live in Los Angles and looking to retire in Bangkok - high chance, we have one thing in common , our last name “Lee”, would love to meet up with you guys . I wonder are you guys still maintaining your America citizenship? Or give up to save on tax.
When Forrest brought up the word grengjai Paul looked confused and didn't understand. Though at the end of the video he said he spoke Thai, if he doesn't understand the word gengjai /เกรงใจ he doesn't speak Thai very well.
Why are you so negative and hostile? Im not fluent in Thai but I can speak much more than the average foreigner. Why do you disrespect a foreigner who is trying to learn Thai? I never heard of gengjai before
It is negative. You wouldn’t say that to me if we met and had dinner together, because it’s a bit hostile and rude. I didn’t say I’m fluent at Thai, but I can speak basic Thai. If you were Thai and you spoke a little bit of English, no one would ever criticize you because you’re not a local. I’m not a local either
@@iPaulLee If you make statements at the end of your video " I speak Thai " I will call you out on it. Your not the only UA-camr I have called out for saying how good their Thai is. There are A few that are based in isan. They like proclaim how good their Thai is. When I called you out I never used foul language, or called you names, I just said your level of Thai wasn't very high and explained why as well. I've been coming to Thailand longer than you have been alive! First came Jan/1980 and have been visiting here every year and have spent years living here at a time as well. I'm based in Chiang mai.
Human beings have always been nomadic. For those who wanna stay in their home town that’s cool but for those of us who have decided to live abroad, I don’t understand the « you’ll have to go back to reality » as if we ain’t working and paying taxes lol Every time I come home visit I get asked if I’m back for good and it’s so irritating. Anyways sorry for the rant 😂 you’re doing great and like you said when there is a will there is a way!

Aaa...thats nice.Thanks guys
Hey ! Love your video ! Same 28 years old, Remote working & business, living since 1 year and 11 months ! Would love to see you in Phuket !
Love to see what you're sharing, have same vibes, money is for liberty, not getting money to waste on materials.. we value our times and freedom !
Super inspirational! 💕 I'd love to remote work and start a business one day~ May I ask what type of remote work / business you do?
Good for you. Do your thing!
live in your best life, dont care what people say
Happy Birthday Paul! Your birthday and @Joycesim birthday is quite close
Happy birthday Paul 🎁🎂, very informative vlog. Paul on separate note, what is the brand name of your grey polo 👕 ?🙏🏽😇
I solved my visa problem with money. I bought a 20 year Thai Elite Visa.
Especially if you attend a school or college there. You make friends and become part of a community.
Many thoughts and reflections in this video, it is worth noting that you do not have any kids which will require much more funds.
How about health care expenses? How do you manage that in Thailand?
Hi Paul, what's the name of the steak restaurant (and address if possible)? Thanks and love your videos. Happy birthday btw
Arnos in thonglor
@@iPaulLee thank you
I'm a small UA-camrs and currently live in Manila, but will be getting a place in Bangkok next month and splitting time between both countries. Hope to meet the both of you sometime. BTW what are the prices for steaks at Arnos?
Happy birthday (when you shot this) mannn!!! 😊😊😊
Super goals to find a guy like this too
great video paul :)
Happy birthday!!! Enjoy your videos keep it up.
If you marry your gf wouldn’t you be able to stay in Thailand without a visa anymore?
Yes 😉
Quality looks amazing. DJI ftw
Bruv, it’s funny how I’m turning 28 too and leaving to move there too in 3 months. It’s like I’m going to be 21 again and just drop everything and leave.
I got used to cheap cheap things in Thailand. America is now too expensive so I cannot go back. Sad sad but I am stuck here😢
“I have a dog here” 😂….I have cats….I miss them more than people when I’m away.😂
the amount of cuts youy gotta do whenever bro talk is crazy lol
Consider yourself very lucky. You don't know how eager I am to visit Bangkok and if possible stay there. It's the best city in the world for me, better than even New york or Chicago
Im 40 now and planning to move next year to BKK on an Elite Visa, yet i dont see many youtubers on that type of visa. Is it just becauce of the price? Im sure this is the easiest way to stay in Thailand right?
I’m 44 and also applying for an elite visa. What job do you plan doing? I’ll be living off my UK investments (property rentals and stock market).
@@carlyndolphin im from Belgium and have a house i rent out and stock/crypto investments. I wish you best of luck on your new adventure in the Thailand
Subscribed. How much was the steak? 🤔 I might move to Bangkok.
Hey. Love your videos.
wow I thought Paul was around 32-33 but he's much younger than I thought
thanks for this video paul. i stopped following forrest when he's so much against paying tax in the states which i think we all should FAIRLY pay - we can argue about how to spend it but paying tax is a form of investment & shared responsibility to make a society work; we got some privileges from it and should pay back & also pay forward to the next gen. there as well. but he redeemed himself (in my estimate ;) ) suggesting to be appreciative of those privileges, be humble and generous to the thai people around here now as recognition to the continued privileges that we've experienced. so 2 thumbs up for both of you to have your heads & hearts in the right places. you'll be ok here in thailand for as long as you want, if there's a will then there's a way. and you're holding some of the solutions in your bank right now..
Do either of you intend to raise children? Would you want them to grow up going to Thai schools and be a part of Thai society?
good video, Forest is right, money is necessary in order to solve most issues, I agree 100%, you do not need to be very rich, 1-2 million invested making passive income and you are set for life
Happy birthday bro.
Hi Paul do you help expats find rentals? Or is there someone that you can recommend? Thank you.
I love your conversation mentioning about the US privilege. I sorry to say that some people get this western privilege then look down people in developing nations.
Great Vid. How about those that are only English Speaking and communications there with the locals? Thanks
very chill video
How do you plan to navigate the potential changes in tax laws?
As long as you have money coming in you will be able to stay somehow, it's that simple. I recommend investing in real estate in a "first world" country and/or dividend producing stocks / ETF so eventually you can live off that passive income without needing any job or business (as you probably won't be able to run any when you're old)
Happy birthday man
Ok. Where does your income come from? Once you relocate to Thailand how do you keep money coming in?
Toxic people everywhere....Toxic comments ... Just ignore them. Life is too short to read or respond to toxic comments.
How much is that gym and u can pay for 1 month only?
Two types of people. Doers and people that whine. Good for you two, you don’t like something fix it.
I currently live in Los Angles and looking to retire in Bangkok - high chance, we have one thing in common , our last name “Lee”, would love to meet up with you guys . I wonder are you guys still maintaining your America citizenship? Or give up to save on tax.
BTW a person can have dual citizenship in USA and Thailand. Giving a citizenship is a complex consideration.
Happy bday dawgy
Fun video thanks Next time you see Forrest explain to him El Salvador is in Central America not South America, Lol
double Lee's in da house
You guys could be brothers. Brothers from a different mothers.
I never heard of gengjai before
@@iPaulLee I was never negative, you put yourself out there and said " I speak Thai " all I said your level isn't very good. Which is true!
For those who wanna stay in their home town that’s cool but for those of us who have decided to live abroad, I don’t understand the « you’ll have to go back to reality » as if we ain’t working and paying taxes lol
Every time I come home visit I get asked if I’m back for good and it’s so irritating. Anyways sorry for the rant 😂 you’re doing great and like you said when there is a will there is a way!
Happy Birthday Paul, enjoy life!
