Camp Hill Prison is located on the outskirts of Newport on the Isle of Wight.
The former category C prison had capacity to hold over 500 inmates and has remained vacant held in reserve capacity by the MOJ since shutting down back in 2013.
Filmed over several undetected visits this ambitious explore takes a look inside this well guarded and huge 16 acre site for the first time since closing.
Filmed with Sony a7sii and DJI Phantom 3.
Edited and graded in Adobe Premiere Pro 2017 and I also create all my own music 🤓 (my own covers of the Escape from New York and Folsom Prison Blues were used).

You were in with my ex partner so , he was there from 2009 for a 5 stretch..again! Wayne Cannon , londoner , but we lived in Portsmouth ...tall bald headed light skinned fella . everybody knew him as he was going back there every few years for 20yrs . All the screws knew him well, he always had the best jobs as he was a funny friendly nice guy , just institutionalized from a kid and I had to give up after 23yrs when he went back in on that 5....but we are still good friends. You must have known him if you were a cleaner, he was always an orderly orca cleaner.. .or in the kitchen.
His sister told me recently that hes back inside again @ 50yrs old now!! Sad.

Fiona Cahill hi Fiona and yep remember Wayne with very happy memories he lived facing me on pats wing for a long time and me and him and a Scouse lad and another guy called fred all hung about together when on the wing had some very very funny times in camphill prison staff on there were just the kindest people ever literally do anything for us and yep Wayne always had the best paying jobs (old silver tongue) haha Carnt believe he’s back in at 50 it’s just not a place for him at his age but yeh I only have good memories of Wayne made me laugh so much and vice versa seems like you put up with quite a lot with him must be hard cos you can see the potential in him just other things or people pull him back in the game as the call it ,

@@Dannydawson537 Hey Danny, I knew you would know him. He was like the furniture in Pat's, he was there so much.
Yes its very sad after all I, he and my brother had been through for 23yrs that he couldn't pull himself together no matter what we did for him... we were together from kids in our teens but I just had to give up and cut him out and I never visited him in Camphill that stretch.
He and I are still very close but I have not seen him apart from face timing since he landed on my doorstep about 6yrs ago with his bags, even though I was years with another fella, and he thought I'd let him move back in!! 😂 Hes a fucker and still thinks we are getting back together! 😄 He stayed the night on the sofa and our daughter took him back to his mothers in Margate.
He was back at it all and his sister sent his address and asked me to write to him just recently, he is in Stocken In Rutland.
Silly man , gave up his life to prison and I spent my youth visiting everywhere from YOI Feltham, to Camphill and looking after him and my brother.
I know my brother being killed in Dublin 18mths ago.hit him hard...but I cant believe he put himself back inside . Hes not a good criminal I always told him...😄
Anyway lad can you post a link to or tell me which podcast you were on with Shaun Attwood as I looked yesterday through a few and I cant find you?
Nice talking to you Danny, I'll write to Wayne soon and I will tell him I found you ! 😊😊 Mind yourself

Wow this brought an unexpected tear to my eye as I spent 20+ yrs of my life visiting my ex partner and my brother in Camphill. Been inside many times....but of course I've never seen their cell blocks before.
My brother was killed 18mths ago and watching this and thinking of all his wasted years in there & other such Institutions is breaking my heart.
Great video though. I appreciate seeing this "Bad Boys" prison. I hated it for so much of my life, it's odd to feel nostalgic about the place but I shared many treasured times with my loved ones inside those gates. It was very corrupt though. I have stories galore about the goings on between staff and inmates , I even had an officer call me at home asking me out after he looked up my details having met me on a visit to my man! Outrageous.

And how many homeless people are on the island looking for somewhere . Open it, staff it , catering staff, mental health / medical staff etc. And let’s get people off the streets this winter. Might not be picturesque but better than sleeping in a doorway. Get the people staying there to physically contribute to the upkeep of the building etc.

As an Isle of Wight resident I find it quite absurd that this place has been empty for so long! They're busy building new houses on any greenfield site they can get their bloody hands on here, but no one has suggested - if nothing else - demolishing Camp Hill and building on it! What's more, with all the new houses they're building, closing Camp Hill meant the loss of any number of jobs - and there are very few to be had here anyway... so WHY the new houses? The prison appears to me to be in extremely good nick, so WHY is it closed? I've seen a number of prisons highlighted on television that are in a much worse state! Oh God *tearing hair* WHAT IS WRONG WITH GOVERNMENT THESE DAYS? The Ministry of Justice surely needs a bloody good shake-up? We have a large empty hospital here too; boarded up and rotting away for years now ... tell me, is it a prerequisite of anyone who wants to be a Member of Parliament to have only one brain cell!

Fascinating. I've been in Camphill and Parkhurst but only as a visitor many years ago. Makes you wonder what that Tax payer's money really goes on, as only a small amount would need to cover x2 Security guards during the day.

Thanks very much Neil! I do wonder where all the stuff from inside ended up, we did try and find Camp hill inmate overalls to climb in wearing, but sadly no luck. It certainly will be tough to top but I do have a few more cracking explores to put up, hopefully soon👍

I did a 12 month stint at Camphill Prison as an PO Auxiliary just keeping an eye on the prisoners when they were out on work parties with realand wore a uniform to fit in, PO's, to see if they were going to make a run for it or other mischief, an had portable phones which I never had to use in that year. Well, it was a job and gave me an income. This was back in the 2000's some time.

I was half expecting a three story building with a horizontal cross beam on the 2nd and a set of double trapdoors on the 1st, especially seeing as it was build in a time when they were still used quite often. Untill I realised that it was apparently a prison meant for the lighter categories of offenders. Maybe one of the others on Wight did have them though?
