Really nice to watch your video. You have shown me the best way to learn video taking through still cameras. I love your explanation. Love from INDIA, TAMIL NADU, RAMANATHAPURAM, T. NAGANI
Very informative for someone just getting started in getting basic settings to do video, like myself. Well done. This video will help me to starting shooting videos with my Nikon 7200 camera. Thank you.
Great tutorial. I've read multiple books and looked at several other video tutorials on shooting video with the D7200 and your offering is by far the best. I have shot some practice videos and am very pleased with the results. Well done Sir! Thank you.
I am new to shooting video with my Nikon d610. The information here is very good. I learned a lot from you. I do understand the issues of the tax laws, so I will be getting used to switching on and off video. I want to learn slow motion and I believe you covered it a little bit. If you can, please make a video on this for us newbies.
Great info. I have a 7200 and have used it extensively for stills but never for video. I'll give that a try now that I know how to set it up. Sadly, I've been too lazy to read the manual about video since I have not had a reason to use it for that. The tax law thing limiting the file length was completely news to me. I hadn't any idea about that. Thanks again!
Hi Brisolab, with video it's a bit more limiting than stills. You need the shutter speed to be roughly double your frame rate. i.e. 24 frames per second will need a 1/50th shutter speed. The aperture you set for the depth of field you would like. That now only leaves you with the ISO to control the actual exposure. If your camera has 'live view' or an electronic viewfinder, the image you see will be the exposure as per the settings. If it's too dark, increase the ISO, if too bright, decrease the ISO. I hope this makes sense? Thank you for watching, stay safe, Dave.
Hi Salon, the lens choice really depends on what you are filming. The 105mm would be great for interviews etc. a wider lens would work for landscapes or wider shots. Thank you for watching, have fun, Dave.
+The Photo Show thanks for this awesome amazing informative packed video it made everything more understandable and fun your a rock star guy keep the awesomeness coming
Wonderful video! Thanks. However couldn't go lower than F3.5 on Nikon D7100, using 18-200 lens. All adjustments worked perfectly. What could be the problem?
Hi Vanessa, the f: number and ISO do not really matter as much as the shutter speed. If you keep your shutter speed at 1/50th of a second, then use the aperture you want for the depth of field, then adjust the ISO to give a good exposure, you will get usable results.Thank you for watching, have fun, Dave.
Hi and thank you so much for this very helpful tutorial. The best I’ve seen!! Especially about the shutter speed formula. My question is one that I cannot find an answer to anywhere - I have assigned the focus button to the AE-L/AF-L button and wondered if you know of another option to lock the exposure to avoid the light changing when shooting during the day. My camera is a nikon d750 I would be so grateful if you can help. Thanks. Louise
Hi Louise, I am glad the video is useful. I'm not sure about the D750 but on most Nikons you can assign any of the buttons to be any function. This is usually in the custom menu. You could re-assign the FN button to be the AE lock. I hope this helps. Thank you for watching, stay safe, Dave.
Nice. I'd reinforce, ISO adjustment in Live View will give the camera operator an idea of proper exposure for each clip. BTW, my goal is to be able to get a product with my DSLR like the one of the Rolling Stones Video "Hate To See You Go".
Hi Charles, yes adjusting the ISO will allow you to have a consistent depth of field for each clip. It would be perfectly possible to shoot a music video similar to the Rolling Stones one. Have fun, thank you for watching, Dave.
Thank you so much. Quite informative and this will help me for I like to take videos. Would the video setting for the DSLR be also good for moving objects? I'm concerned about the focusing>
The video settings will work for moving subjects, possibly using the AF-C settings would allow the focus to track the subjects. Thank you for watching, have fun, Dave.
20 minutes time limit on the Nikon is not a problem for me. I can always stop shooting and adjust the location and start over again. In fact, for me, it is a big pros. As I am not a pro, shooting videos only occasionally, so I can always stop shooting and have a glass with something strong between them and here we go again.
You explained everything well except you didn't say how to know if the exposure is good ? Whether the видео will be overexposed or underexposed. Or I missed something...
Hi Jim, actually nothing! It's a odd thing but the camera will not let you change the aperture when it's in 'live view'. You need to go back to the viewfinder change the aperture and then go back to 'live view'. I have no idea why as you can change shutter speed and ISO but not the aperture. Thank you for watching, stay safe, Dave.
The 'L' will lock the focus point when using the viewfinder, it helps prevent moving it accidentally when camera is up to your eye. Thanks for watching, have fun, Dave.
Your video is so helpful to help me understand the set up and why we would change certain settings
I'm goping to watch every video on the D7100 that you have at least 5 times each and love every second. Thank you from Liverpool.
Before I watched your video i had no idea how to use my camera for video, but now, thanks to your clear, logical explanation I can. Thanks !

Yes. We do video on my D750 and D7200. But it is quite limited compared to even a smartphone.
That's a great informational video 👍 I have same camera with 55mm lense I can't go under F4 ? Why is that so?
Having set the shutter speed, the f.stop and Iso correctly. How do you know the image is properly exposed.Any thing to look out for.
Really need to commend you for your lecture.thanks

Great video, I'm using a Nikon 7100d with an 105mm Nikon vr macro lens. Should I use a different lenns instead?
Hi Salon, the lens choice really depends on what you are filming. The 105mm would be great for interviews etc. a wider lens would work for landscapes or wider shots. Thank you for watching, have fun, Dave.
@@ThePhotoShow I'm shooting jewelry in a light box on rotation.
The 105mm lens should be great for that, especially as it is a macro for close up details.

Very good lesson. Thank You! Спасибо!
Wonderful video! Thanks. However couldn't go lower than F3.5 on Nikon D7100, using 18-200 lens. All adjustments worked perfectly. What could be the problem?
Hi TM, what is the maximum aperture for your lens? If it is F3.5 that will be as wide as it can go. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching, Dave.
Brilliant!!!
how can i check for correct exposure while shooting video in live view mode?
Great video. Please help with focus for wildlfe walking towards you. Thanks
My F only goes down to 3.5 and ISO doesnt have 160. Can you help? Thank you so much for your video

Can't change aperture with front dial mate doesn't work what am I doing wrong please

Hi I took it out of live view as your video said but the front dial won't change it in the top display the dial doesn't do anything at all
Hi Jim, the next thing to check would be, is the camera on 'Manual' or another setting?
It's on manual I've somehow managed to get it to work but can't get it down lower than 3.5 would that be correct for a D7100 Nikon?
The aperture will depend on the lens fitted, if f:3.5 is the widest aperture on your lens then that would be correct.
What does the "L" switch from the joystick lock?
The 'L' will lock the focus point when using the viewfinder, it helps prevent moving it accidentally when camera is up to your eye. Thanks for watching, have fun, Dave.
Thank you. I thought that it will lock the joystick
Good .
But how to pause the video sir
