- This televised concert special features singer/songwriter Cat Stevens performing in Manchester, England. Highlights include performances of the following songs: "Moonshadow," "Where Do the Children Play?", "Longer Boats," "Tuesday's Dead," "Sad Lisa," "Hard-Headed Woman," and "Father & Son
We need his music today. The world has become so hurtful.
@63 yrs of age I am sort of hoping music in general make a turn back toward the better cuz if we use Cat as a comparison it's clear that musicians like him are few and far between anymore. I'm soo glad to have experienced the music of my generation. Some really special artists came from that time and Cat Steven is one of the best.
At 63yrs my self, I hear that !
I always refer to that time as the Golden Era of Songwriting. The creativity and unique artistry is unrivaled.
@@chasestevens803 True. I'd also add that it's not always about what happened but when. People were very accepting of creative music during that time. Twas a %%%%ing great time to be alive!!! I know, I was there and took it in. lol
Ain't ganna appen mate.
31 and keeping it alive my friend
A big part of being 73 is that I could dig the "Cat" in real time.😎
My god this performance is just heavenly... Longer Boats is really something else... his spirit is other-worldy. BLESS HIM. Oh bless this beautiful soul, we have been so gifted with his spirit here
How beautifully said.
@@talismannz Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! I just feel so full of spirit, and life, and completely lifted by his music & grace, it just overflows me!
100% agree! What a beautiful soul!
BLESSED❣️
Wow! Thank you for sharing this. I discovered Cat Stevens in 1971 and I turned 71 today. I AM so blessed.
Hey Vincent Michael from Australia I'm on 62 but I discovered cat Stevens early 70s he was in his prime around now enjoying same check out 71 performance bbc great 2 song's I've never heard
Same with me; will turn 71 in June!
You’re recycled teenagers, golden not olden!
Alun Davies is such an important part of Cat Steven's sound such a great sound they get on guitars and vocals
At sixteen, I self taught myself guitar playing along with songbooks and the albums. I'm 68 now and still playing along. Great memories and great music. God bless him.
I'm not sure that many artists have written so many incredible songs in such a short period of time. Cat Stevens was only 23 in 1971.
As a longtime Cat Stevens this is a new gift I will gladly accept. Thank you.
After all these years this is still the best music I like to listen and play with my acoustic guitar (along with the Beatles)
Listening to a poet educate us is just magical.....
I’ve been on a Cat watching binge, the last week. I can’t even remember how I got started, but I just came across this gem performance. I was a big fan in his prime, had all his albums, and after all these years I’d kind of forgotten how great he was! Thanks for posting this. And thanks Cat (& friends) for truly some of the best music of my life.
My floated on the algorithm
The Best!

I've also been binging on Yusaf Cat Stevens for about a week now. Getting my fix.❤❤❤
Incredible performance. Cat Stevens like Peter Green was always soulful...
Gotta love how there's a dude there just waitin' to hand Cat a post-concert joint at 28:14 ... ah, the scintillating 70's.
I had heard "Wild World" and "Father & Son" growing up, but it wasn't until High School, when I saw Harold and Maude, that Cat Stevens and his music just nestled deep into a real place in a soul still figuring itself out. To me, it was this pure ecstatic openness that cut right through all the confusion of moving through life at that age, and it let me know that I could and should be honest with myself, and open with others. It steered me in this whole new, far more rewarding direction that I think I'm happily still an ancestor of today at 32.
Love this. Cat sounds so good, relaxed and happy.
These lyrics to Longer Boats have an extra verse I've never heard until now. He has a real diversity of tunes.
This is absolutely fabulous! Thank you for sharing
Aewsome concert ..so wish i had got the chance to see him in concert🎶⭐🎵❣
I saw Cat Stevens in concert five times. Five times I was blessed.
I love this so much.
His songs are relevant even today!
Father and son tears my heart out and where do the children play also. In 1955 I had lots of places to play.✌🍄🕉
A TRUE BLESSING!!
Wonderful.... I remember my younghood....
The great Car Stevens.
Lo ascolto x ore e mi innamoro sempre di più,dimenticavo di dirvi che lo ascolto da 50 anni .La sua musica rimarrà eterna❤️
Saw him the following day at Free Trade Hall Manchester,my first ever concert...he had this Warehouse t shirt on but not the boots...my first proper date ,we were together for three years
Jealous .....would love to have seen him live esp in the 70s🤩
I’ve never seen this before!! Thank you so much for sharing ❤️
Wow. What a voice. What a load of talent. Yusuf Cat Stevens has it all. And his voice is so distinct you couldn't mistake it for another. Loved him then. Love him now. ❤️ ❤❤Thank you for this great video.
Thanks for posting. Learnt guitar playing these songs. I’m still learning at 64.
This is wonderful ,I have this concert on my CD , but its great to see it on line ! Thank you 😊
Estou tão feliz e grata por ouvir estas canções! Penetra na alma
Oh he was so happy to be singing in England!!! And so passionate!!! Love it when he says "irrrrelevant" and laughs!!!!👏🏼🙏🏼✨
He was homesick. As far as I know he'd never been abroad before (apart from one year in Sweden as a kid) and he'd never moved from his flat between Shaftesbury Avenue and New Oxford Street. ;-)
Super Sänger! Einmalig!

Just love "The Cat"...❤
haven’t seen this one before, LOVE it. thanks for posting
Love Cat ❤️
Very welcome, glad you dig it!
Tremendous.
Sadly, Gerry Conway who was on drums in this video and on most (if not all) of Steve's tours passed away on May 2024. He was much loved and will be madly missed.
Gerry Conway on drums, plays with Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention , Fotheringay, Sandy Dennis and married with Jaqui MacShee of Pentangle...
Thank you
🥀Beautiful Songs🥀✌🥀
I've always heard Cat on vinyl and 8-track. Had them all back in the day. Much better live....
This is awesome 👍 thanks for sharing 😊
I love him so very much xoxo
Cat Stevens wanted to be rich, and he achieved it. I was glad to be part of the early 70's Cat Stevens. The later religious nut, not so much. The simpleness of it all was great, a couple of guitars, piano and sometimes drums and his simple album artwork. Alun Davies, Larry Steele and Gerry Conway added to a great mix. Big hair Jean Roussel was great on the keyboards. You can tell when Stevens worked hard because it showed in his songwriting, hard work equaled great songwriting. Otherwise is just seemed contractual. Cat tried some different styles up until his return to the basic Stevens style writing in Buddha and the Chocolate Box. After that he seemed to be ready to leave the business. I really enjoyed this TV clip.
Hello, I can't understand your name. I would like to ask you if you can guide me in how they recorded the voices, the instruments. I'm a singer-songwriter, and I would like to record my songs with that kind of disposition. Thank you very much, and thank you for such beautiful music that you were a part of. Edith.
Something of a Spiritual magic during those times, mid-'60s to mid-'70s and the music from that era reflects it. A depth of feeling both lyrically & musically, sweetness of soul and kindness to one another which seems to have become lost over the decades since, not that there isn't a remnant plus a few who seem to be born with that freshness of times long past, but the signs are all around that the world is moving into it's dark night of the soul - but I will remember
...and smile
Good post. He had a few fantastic years, and then several mediocre years..............then vanished. An Other Cup had a few gems on it. Not sure what he's done since.
@earlgarcia2736
He didn't just vanish. He later quit music and became Muslim. From what I understand, his son encouraged him to get back into music and I, for one, am very glad he did. ❤❤❤
Alun Davies on second acoustic guitar and Larry Steele on bass and congas. Granada TV special here in North West England. I met them after interviewing Cat Steven at Southport Floral Hall. Larry Steele remained in touch for a few years. A great time to be a fan.
Have been wondering who the guy on bass is for a while
At first glance I thought it was a young Phil Lynott
Thank you.
Thanks for uploading this video. Fantastic 😄😄❤👍👍
Thanks for posting.
i love it too.
Britain's best throughout all the '70s, along with Genesis IMO, discovered Peter Gabriel anyway. Bless 'im.
I love this, thank you!
Cat & Alun -💗

Wonderful ! Come to Brasil, Cat 👏👏👏
Love&love again
Thumbs Up !
Cat's heydays.
❤
This was Cat Stevens at his height.About 5 yrs before dropped out of site and changed his name .One cool thing he does on Moonshadow is he plays the beginning with his fingers and has the pick between his pinkie anfd forth finger then grabs it with thumb and other finger when he does the strumming part.Have to look for it..
Funny to see this comment, I was just watching him doing the same thing in his hamburg studio lady d'arbanville. Saw him on slo mo using a pick but when he did the riff he used his index finger and thumb while the pick was tucked between his other fingers.
@@angelaburleson6277 Its hard to do.I play guitar and tried it.He must have practiced a while lol
@@marcmaschal2897 yes, lol!
Belo. Cheio de charme. Olha a calça cor de rosa do outro que toca linda.
You're wellcome, Yusuf/ Cat Stevens fan'spage
I guess I just noticed he said he wouldn’t have to talk twice in this performance rather then loose my legs won’t have to walk, loose my mouth and won’t have to talk
Great concert...except for all that crap before 2:10 on the UA-cam time counter. I'm wondering if I was the only one who caught his mistake on the first song...Moonshadow? Anyone else find it?
Jesus breathe up into my nostrils cause my sense to live and come alive in you Jesus draw me Lord up healing winds of your voice and it's sound word buried up in your name my resurrection O Life hold me up in thy healing wings of deliverance. Thanks I am given to you Jesus.
2023
Seems to me Cat needed a good vocal warm up before the performance. Not until Tuesday’s Dead do I hear the full voice I love so much.
He is no longer Cat Stevens, but his music is wonderful.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I so love this...favorite artist for yours...his passion: wow! BTW-is that Walter Becker in the light blue tee shirt at 8:59?
Where do the drummer play in “Where do the children play”? Didn’t come?
Who are the members of the band and what did they go on to do?
Alun still plays with him.Larry Steele on bass and Gerry Conway on drums IDK.
Cat says Longer Boats is about spaceships?
Someone needs to alert the Elon!
Starts at 2:04

You got to turn it up to see the kingdom of God and the Truth and Jesus is the Truth.
He that walks among the seven golden candle sticks and has the seven stars in his right hand
The Alpha and the Omega the beginning and the end the first and the last.Father of lights.
That the key of David love put the key in the lock like any key and turn the key upside down to open up this removing the bolt that binds allowing the door to open to see the mystery of the kingdom of God and the Truth and Jesus is the Truth
He could have acted for the part of Jesus in a Passion movie
I loved❤
I love this so much.
