@@andrewduong2740 Not true. I saw a comparison of service costs and they're reasonable (I think it was a Santa Fe or Tucson that overtook them massively in price, surprisingly). Also they are actually decently reliable (especially BMW in recent years, but not so much Audi), statistically speaking. So, if you ignore angry internet-users, you'll realise they aren't that expensive to maintain at all. I'd still take a Hyundai though lol, I just like them.
This will be interesting to see if you take it to Bentley for a service and to put right what the cost will be. Think you can get away with running these on a shoe string, does look good minus the rust everything seems to work- a lot of car for little money
The feeling of actually owning that Bentley would quickly becomes MASSIVELY outweighed by a crushing feeling of buyers remorse at the cost of owning and running it, also the cost to donit up...
Idk. I mean i spent way to much money on a new car that’s deteriorating fast maybe it would have been better to spent money on an old car that you can maintain for your whole life.
Two year ago I bought an 62 teg Mercedes SLK for £11k, so much nicer than the Zoe I had before and I got cash back, just as well given petrol prices. No regrets though. Bentley too scary for me
Watching Rory fail to turn the wipers off gave me the same anxiety as sitting behind a Clio on a beautiful summer’s day with it’s rear intermittent wipe on.
I've seen a couple of these on the banger tracks and they seem to hold up pretty well, They do have a Ford V6 transplant though for reliability and extra space in front of the engine, Good luck with that Rory you will need it 😁
The first thing I noticed wasn't exactly the colour... Unless you count _RUST_ as being a colour!!?? 🤔🤫🙄 And I wouldn't have sat in the seats without going over the interior with a UV light to pick out _those unusual stains!_ 🤔😲😬 Still... Great stuff Rory! The Dacia is just going to depreciate, although it is NEW so minimal upkeep issues. I wonder how the classic car market will view a Brooklands (which I remember as the "bargain basement" Bentley, if there really was such a thing then as nothing was shared with plebian VWs regardless of how good or bad those German cars are.) Probably wise to pass on the low mileage Silver Shadow "wedding car" in that it wouldn't be as modern as the Brooklands. I remember a beater Silver Shadow sitting in a garage forecourt here in the US, and the mechanic told me that it was there for a restoration with a brake jub being $20,000......So that 10,000 GBP is just the cover charge before you pay for the drinks..... But if you have the cash, hell, go for it! Worst case scenario is that you sell it onwards (where you'd at least recoup some of your cash) or part it out. But the one thing I do know about these is to look for service history with a specialist if not a dealership. Why buy the cheapest Bentley if it turns out to require considerable work? Always buy the best you can afford! I do love this car, though! These seem to have the solidity that only Mercedes rivals. I do like this last of the independent Rolls-Royce-owned Bentley powered cars. The Arnage looked nice, but the 1980s blockiness is SOOOOO appealing to me. ENJOY!!!!!!
Just looked Russian video on car prices over there and it is similar level - from 40% up to 50% but its the spare parts and service where it really hurts.
The cheapest Bentley is clearly a bad idea. For 3 grand more you could get one without all the rust. Three tips for buying an old Bentley: Don't buy low mileage, but full service history is important, including seeing that it's had head gaskets. Don't buy one with rust, which is possible, but not easy; patience is a virtue. And don't buy a scruffy one. Preferably: Buy a Turbo R, and maybe consider getting a 1988 or 89 without air suspension. Don't buy one from someone who didn't garage it, or use it much. Don't buy one if you haven't got a garage or a large enough garage. Don't buy one if you're not going to use it regularly. And remember, they're rather large on the outside, but not that roomy on the inside, and drink like a fish. Also, you need to have a few grand set aside for repairs, and note that regular annual servicing is on the high side of normal, averaging about a grand a year. I strongly recommend a pre-purchase inspection by a Bentley specialist.
The Color looks amazing, really pops. The pale interior and the exterior colored mats are amzing. After a good exterior detail and leather seat repair/clean will look like new. Great video Rory and great buy ❤
One of the problems buying an older model of a car that many people buy so that other people will look at them is that you are making a statement that you can't afford a newer model. Another is the maintenance and fuel costs. If you can afford to pay £200 to fill up the tank and £1k plus for a service, then go for it because not many of us can.
Good luck Rory, might be an ideal opportunity to also collab with TyrrellsClassicWorkshop. I’d love to see the smile on his face when you turn up to get a quote.
The camera work for the first half of the video could've been better. The constant camera slides were unnecessary and the fixed side view of Rory's head was awkward. I think it would've been more simple to have the main camera fixed in place, with a second one viewing at wide Rory from the front, maybe at a below-axis angle. Also, when Rory was showcasing the Bentley, a monopod may have helped in stabilising the image. The shaking is noticeable.
Surely you should have set the filter to highest price first to see what was the best vehicle available, then go down the list for a cheaper one if possible. Doing it the way you did meant you never een got anywhere near your top budget on your searches before moving on.
Great video, be prepared to spend some heard earned and enjoy, the colour I think you will find is called "wild berry" look forward to updates on this one definitely!
I like your excitement, but this video should be half as long. I'd really have loved a look under the hood and driving impressions right away. Did you sell the Leaf to buy this?
Can't believe you had not heard of the Brooklands. Keen to see what think of it. Its going to need a ton of work both mechanically and cosmetically. A really good independent specialist will save you a ton of cash.
This won’t be a daily driver but the pleasure of waking up and seeing this beauty in the garage or on the drive old school gentleman’s club British craftsmanship must be pleasurable. An indulgence for the occasional weekend drive wafting along in the countryside. With so many of these cars still available is a testament to that engine and the lack of air suspension I’m sure this car will serve well used within the above said parameters.
Or you can buy an 2009 Audi A6 TDI with 180 thousand miles for £1200 leather heated seats , Air con , alloy wheels electric windows cruise control etc , obviously it may need work like a new clutch or turbo but for the money its a great car
Really enjoyed this as it fits my view why buy a new car when you get so much more second hand and you are not just paying many thousands of pounds for the snob value of having a new number plate.
What I hate about the car prices scandal is that people are getting mad at dealers or makers while they ALWAYS try to be competitive. So Dacia builds a car with almost no margin and you think the rise is greed? And they dont focus the real problem which is inflation!!!
