    Wow this recipe is DA BOMB dude. My local Sarku moved awhile ago and been craving some. Ill be damned if this isnt practically spot on. You nailed it with the thigh meat, same texture and tenderness. You sir are a magician, that or you got your hands on their recipe lol many thanks!

    I’ve made this twice now. It’s legit just like the one in the mall but I feel it’s healthier and you control the quality of the protein. Use a good non-stick pan and make sure it’s pre-heated to high (maybe not all the way to high) the first time I made this I used a crappy pan and while it tasted ok, it wasn’t caramelize like it’s supposed to, I still made 3 meals out of it, the second time I was shocked, I used a good non-stick pan and oh my lord… also I added a tsp of brown sugar the second time I made it and for the veggies I just sautéed well shopped carrots and broccoli. But yeah, thanks for this recipe, I’m going to be making on the regular now. Also, the first time I didn’t thinly sliced the chicken thighs and the second time I made sure to thinly cut them and it was much better.

    So I am hoping that Baking soda is bicarb soda here in Australia! Trying it tonight :) EDIT: JUST TRIED IT AND IT WAS DELICIOUS. Aussie folk, use Bicarb not baking powder. Never had Sarku but this was delicious.

      It is yep! Baking soda = Soda Bicarbonate. Just make sure it is food grade and safe to consume.

    so you can freeze it? for how long? is it good even after freezing?

    • @whatsfordinnerbryan
      @whatsfordinnerbryan  День тому +1

      Great question! I don’t know but I think if you vacuum sealed the chicken or put it in an air tight bag with as much air removed it would likely freeze well. The rice and veggies likely will be mushy after freezing but the chicken probably tastes good still. Give it a try and let me know how it works out! Otherwise I’ll be making lots more videos here and will try to revisit! 👍🏼

    • @whatsfordinnerbryan

      Xiaoxing rice wine isn't essential, but it does help bring out more flavor. 👍🏻

      I wonder if cooking down the marinade to kill off any bacteria from the chicken and thickening a little with corn starch would work.

    Ty for the recipe but, Where is the ginger taste that is prominent in this dish? It sounds yummy, but how can it be spot on without the ginger flavor

    • @whatsfordinnerbryan
      @whatsfordinnerbryan  10 днів тому

      I don't personally taste ginger, but if you'd like you might try adding some ginger powder or a slice of ginger while cooking to add some ginger flavor. 👍🏻

    I notice there weren't any sweet ingredients, isn't sarku japan pretty sugary?

    • @jasonkramar801
      @jasonkramar801 Місяць тому +1

      Absolutely. I’m willing to give this a shot though. I wouldn’t recommend having rice sit in a container for 6 days. 1 day is about the most I would be able to do considering rice is a hot bed for bacteria.

      For this teriyaki recipe we focused more on the saltiness side with soy sauce. Other recipes like the grilled teriyaki video do use some brown sugar in the marinade. Might be worth trying to add some sugar and seeing if that more closely matches what you like. 👍🏻
