Percussionist here- This song is so much fun to play, theres a lot of things for the percussion to do so no one gets left out! :D This is really one of my favorite peices.
By far the best song I've played, because bass clarinets had some cool parts. But I had an unplanned solo at at 4:37 (it was supposed to be a soli) when my section mates failed to practice and just didn't play that one part
When I was in fourth grade and began flute, I thought even blowing the mouthpiece without whistle would be impossible. Now I see the beauty in believing in yourself! We played Colliding Visions, also by Brian Balmages. I love the emotion he can put into music.
Colliding visions is such a beautiful piece. I was supposed to play it for an honor band, but it was cut. My director was then supposed to have us play it for class that year, but COVID interfered. This piece is a challenge, but definitely rewarding in the end
Just played this song at a University during my senior year of high school. It was really cool having Mr. Balmages as our conductor! This is easily one of my favorite songs for concert band. It was a pleasure working with him for the second time in my life. He is a brilliant composer and musician. For once, a composer wrote a fun and interesting Bari Sax part and for that alone, I have great respect for him. :D
I'm a saxophone playing this in my concert band class and it's an amazing song! Only hard part is that very end when like I practically see a black line across my paper because of the crazy amount of notes and how fast it goes haha.
People stop fighting. This is a great piece, and every instrument is important. Whether you play something as big and powerful as the tuba, or if you play something that is so small and quiet as the flute.
I played this my senior year of high school in our All-County band. It was a lot of fun putting it together, and it was the hardest piece on our concert last year. I played first horn three of the four years I was in the high school All-County.
I remember having to play that flute solo in the beginning. The flute teacher I knew seriously wouldn't let me give it up. But I'm happy because they helped get better.
I played this song in concert band on trumpet as a freshman and my junior year I switched to marching band. And now for my senior year I get to play it again. Such an amazing piece.
for my high school after the drums section it is the highest importance its where the flutes and the bass clarinets play it is so much fun that all you see is the teacher smiling like "yes you guys didn't screw it up this time'"
I love playing a bunch of instruments because when people argue which is the best, you can know for certain they're all awesome. ;) Beautiful song, btw! I really like Mr. Balmages' pieces!
I'm currently playing this in my band. It sounds so awesome!!! I play flute, but all the other instruments are rockin!!!!!! Especially percussion's drum break at 3:37!1! Rock on!
Fake. Have you seen the videos he's posted?? A grown man capable of producing wonderful pieces like the real Balmages wouldn't post things like he has.
The Muffin Sorry I've been terribly busy composing master pieces and sadly could not respond to your comment right away. Is it so wrong to post videos of my sons to the internet? Also it seems wrong to hold a man to such a high standard just because he is a composer. I have other interests other than music you know.
Brian Balmages sounds a bit egocentric coming from a guy who publicly likes dramatic readings of chronexia fan fiction. You’re a great composer but most of us played this song during middle school. “Composing masterpieces” isn’t something you should say. You’re not Beethoven so please get off your high horse.
ok,,,so i do agree that without percussion, you don't have a song, and maybe i'm reading your post wrong, but this song really does have percussion in it. it makes up literally the entire last half of the song. that's all i'm saying
Lol I accidentally fell asleep to this song and I woke up thinking I was in a desert...
Pkmnranger321 cool
Pkmnranger321 HAHAHAHAHA 😂 it has that desert kind of vibe to it
How do you fall asleep
Edit: nvm I thought it was a different piece also called Arabian dances
this bass clarinet part is literally life.
Percussionist here- This song is so much fun to play, theres a lot of things for the percussion to do so no one gets left out! :D This is really one of my favorite peices.

I'm a saxophone playing this in my concert band class and it's an amazing song! Only hard part is that very end when like I practically see a black line across my paper because of the crazy amount of notes and how fast it goes haha.
Percussion has a big part #percussion for life
People stop fighting. This is a great piece, and every instrument is important. Whether you play something as big and powerful as the tuba, or if you play something that is so small and quiet as the flute.

I played this my senior year of high school in our All-County band. It was a lot of fun putting it together, and it was the hardest piece on our concert last year. I played first horn three of the four years I was in the high school All-County.

playing this song this year for contest....french horn is the best
You have no percussion, you have no song. Period.
really? so that whole two minute section at the beginning of the speed up was all....wait a minute...percussion instruments....what a coincidence.
ok,,,so i do agree that without percussion, you don't have a song, and maybe i'm reading your post wrong, but this song really does have percussion in it. it makes up literally the entire last half of the song. that's all i'm saying
Yeah, you read it wrong, cuz I was saying without percussion, you can't have a song, but it's cool. I should've phrased that better, anyway.
