  • In this video, we'll look at the 2024 Freightliner Cascadia and how it compares to other truck manufacturers and models in terms of fuel efficiency, driver comfort, sustainability, connection, and safety. We'll also go over its competitors, such as Volvo's VNL series, Kenworth's W990, Peterbilt's Model 579, and Mack's Anthem, and how the Cascadia stands out in these key areas.
    With its upgraded Detroit Diesel engines and aerodynamic modifications, the Freightliner Cascadia 2024 establishes new fuel economy norms. This truck is a game changer in terms of lowering carbon emissions and operating costs, establishing it as a sustainability leader in the trucking sector.
    The Cascadia's roomy and customisable cabin approaches luxury vehicles in terms of driver comfort. It provides a home away from home for truck drivers, with adjustable seats, massage functions, smart infotainment systems, and safety features such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance.
    In compared to competitors like as Volvo, Kenworth, Peterbilt, and Mack, the 2024 Cascadia distinguishes out for its focus on sustainability, connection, and safety. It leads the way in decreasing environmental impact and integrating cutting-edge technologies.
    Another area where the Cascadia excels is connectivity, which incorporates powerful telematics systems for real-time data monitoring and analysis. Fleet managers may remotely optimise routes, measure fuel use, and monitor vehicle health, resulting in increased efficiency and reduced downtime.
    The safety of drivers and other road users is crucial in the trucking industry, and the 2024 Freightliner Cascadia takes it to the next level with technology like adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot recognition.
    We'll also talk about the future of trucking, such as self-driving technologies, electric and hydrogen-powered trucks, and the emergence of digital freight platforms, all of which are set to transform the sector. The agility and commitment to improvement of Freightliner are crucial assets that will keep it competitive in this ever-changing landscape.

      Some ride better than others. The older model Cascadia I'm driving rides pretty smoothly, but I drove another that would scare you going around curves, like those old 80's Ford Cabovers with the 8 bag air ride.

    There is so much wrong here. As someone who works on heavy trucks for a living, I’m pretty familiar with what’s available. The Cascadia should be compared to a KW T680, not the W990. Also, fuel economy is barely better than the competition if at all. And these trucks are extremely unreliable. The most common truck I have to have my customers get towed to the dealer is a Cascadia (I work roadside, I can’t do all the intricate emissions repairs on the side of the interstate). Their whole purpose is to be the cheapest truck available

      @fredcalder2869 3 місяці тому

      @@bendytendy9586 honestly, for the fleets I contract to, it’s a pretty even mix of freightliner, paccar, and Volvo. Usually the paccars and Volvos are easy fixes or just something to do with a light out or air brake problems. Cascadias are usually the ones with DEF units going out and leaving drivers stranded, or having engine control modules go dead

    I jus got a 24' it had 54miles on it. Very nice. Now it has about 7,500 already been in the shop. (Idle was rough/ threw code for injectors) Collision avoidance avoids ghosts too. Ergo of the cockpit is 6outa10. It eats DEF; much more so than my 20 international. I do like the bunk setup, and have a bigger fridge. It also had a mount for a tv. They go for around $200k if i was buying id offer $85k lol

      You just described a new cascadia 😂 I’ve had a 22 and a 23 and both had the exact same issues. That man said absolutely nothing of note that I noticed other than “allows fleet managers to plan more efficient routes” meaning the guy with 0 trucking experience is now going to try and manage drivers routes too and screw that up.
      That was just a bunch of corporate buzz words and a 23 cascadia with maybe 2 design changes where hoses connect or something dumb.

      @truthseeker2321 7 місяців тому +5

      Your 2024 avoids ghosts? The 2022 Cascadia I'm driving avoids them too! They seem to hang out around overpasses for some reason.
      The adaptable cruise control is annoying, and I don't like the Jake coming on in 3rd stage just because someone ahead of me just took an exit and is clearly not in front of me anymore.
      I survived 36 years of trucking without all of that shit and wish they sold models without.

      What about the traffic behind you, when you suddenly go from 65 MPH down to 60 or 55 before you even started making the decline? I have a feeling that not a lot of thought and absolutely no feedback from drivers went into the development of these newer trucks.

All the alarms telling me about collisions and lanes go off all the time for no reason meaning I now ignore all alarms making them a distraction to my driving and nothing more. the cruise control slows the truck down cresting a hill so now I'm a road hazard to anyone behind me. The automatic transmission is SO slow taking off and switching between gears I could do better with me manual. And the visibility is terrible, I keep having to move to see around the pillar and mirrors, and the sensors in the windshield are so low it blocks my view of the road and traffic.

In the early 2000 they pulled their Mercedes name out of the USA truck market because of the upcoming mandatory DEF regulations and the company didn’t want their products subject to scrutiny, since they knew the regulations would “water down” the quality of the engines. A similar approached was taken by CATAPILAR engines, whom refused to “water down “ their engines and opted for pulling out of the truck market. There are videos of that time frame of CATAPILAR calling out Cummings, DETROIT, VOLVO AND PACCAR for not being frankly to the trucking community of this rushed, untested and expensive pollution regulations, AKA DEF systems.

      @johnathanganziano7016 All of the new trucks use DEF, but that’s not what creates the breakdowns and other issues. The breakdowns, poor performance, and regens all come from the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). The EGR forces dirty exhaust back into the intake and causes excessive soot and loss of power due to the engine literally choking on its own waste. The DPF is what gets clogged and causes the need for parked regens, which increases the more the truck is idled. The DPF needs to reach about 1,100 degrees to burn off the accumulated soot, and the system does this by either injecting fuel into the exhaust stream or injecting fuel on the exhaust stroke to increase the temperature. To me this is completely idiotic because the system wastes a ton of fuel trying to get the DPF hot enough to burn off the soot and turn it into ash.
      From an environmental standpoint today’s trucks are significantly cleaner than older models, but the systems designed to help achieve environmental goals counteract that in many ways. The trucks would be significantly more reliable if they didn’t use EGR, and didn’t have the same type of DPF. The SCR System (Selective Catalytic Reduction) is what uses DEF, and is typically not the cause for a breakdown. This system works much better than the EGR and DPF, and doesn’t ever need a regen. The only maintenance the SCR system needs is for the DEF filter to be changed every couple hundred thousand miles.
      As of today the new trucks being manufactured are 100 times more reliable than the earlier model “emissions trucks”. The manufacturers, especially Cummins, have really done a good job of making these systems work better with fewer issues. It’s still more stuff on the engine that can break, but I have a 2024 Cascadia and it extremely more reliable than the 2012 Cascadia I used to have. The worst trucks out there are the Volvos and Mack’s, which Volvo owns Mack, and this is because Volvo puts a sensor on everything! The sensors fail and cause a derate, which then leads to an expensive repair bill very frequently. Volvo’s ride good, and they have one of the better automated manual transmissions, but their engine and after treatment systems are garbage regardless of whether it’s a newer one or an older one.
      Freightliner builds an all around good truck. The DD13 and DD15 aren’t the best engines, but they’re solid and will get good fuel mileage, make adequate power, and not have many after treatment issues if any. Personally, I prefer a Freightliner Cascadia with a Cummins X15 and a manual 18 speed transmission. Cummins builds the best after treatment system, and they sell their system to Navistar, Paccar (Peterbilt and Kenworth), and of course use it with their own engines as well. The Single Module After Treatment System is a streamline compact system that has a smaller DPF, and everything is easily accessible in one unit that looks like a muffler, but each individual part is designed to be replaced without having to replace the entire system.

    Collision detection and auto breaking is retarded in icy conditions. All the beeping is annoying and distracting. Drivers don’t care about pollution control. Drivers, unless owner operators, don’t care about fuel consumption. Drivers want comfort, control over their environment and anything that makes life easier on the roads. How about putting in a fridge and microwave standard? How about a HUD projected onto the wind shield showing speed? How about a built in back up light for dark lots and variable docks coming out of the sun into a dark warehouse? How about digital climate control vs a knob with blue or red? How about a built in fold down recliner in the bunk? Tons of things that are driver centric vs bean counter centric. No drivers equals no money to buy your trucks

    Nothing about the 2024 cascadia is new. Everything it has on it is literally the same since 2019 model when they change to that body style. Only thing different is the GEN 5 DD15 and it’s a stretch to even call that different from the GEN 3 and GEN 4 arguably more reliable generations of the DD series engines. Fuel economy on them has been the same in real world use for the last 5 years. Literally nothing has changed same stupid Detroit assurance system no driver likes. The interior will make all kinda noises from the cheap plastic they use in it after sometime of use etc.
