      LevitatorMusic No, it's because he practiced. You can't just expect to be good at something over night. Drawing like that takes YEARS of practice but just keep doing it and you will be able to do sooner or later.

      I thought that too at first, but after practicing for several months I can see that it’s definitely possible. (Keep in mind I’m nowhere near this guy’s level.)

    The are good shading techniques, could you (if you don't already have one) do a video on 'where' to shade? That's always been my biggest issue. (other than hands and proportions -.-)

    Hi mark! I just wanted to say thank you. When I was younger I got a copy of your "mastering manga" book for Christmas. Ever since then I used your book to try and progress and get better. I just won an art scholarship at my school for my art. I would just like to say thank you for getting me started. When I am older, I hope to become a manga artist just like you, maybe even one day I'll get too write my own art instruction book and inspire some other little girl to begin drawing. I hope one day I'll meet you not as a random commenter on your videos but as a fellow manga artist. Until then I would just like to say thank you.

    The 3rd one is my favorite, and the reason is it makes the character look a little more 3D, but the other 2 are also good for quick sketches. I also think they first 2 are also great cuz sometimes for certain drawings 2D can be the best option.

    how should I hold the pencil when I do the last one if im left handed?

    • @Acecombatrules59
      @Acecombatrules59 10 років тому +3

      us left handed people (kinda sounds racist but no its not lol) have a different style of grip, just like what mark-sensei did, just kinda adjust your hand from the pencil, it really matters specially if you are planning to draw a curved concave, convex etc. lines because even if you know how to use your natural pivot point, without the knowledge of how you grip the pencil in different manners of drawing, it really would be pointless..

    I enjoy watching your vids. I've been drawing off and on all my life, and each time, it's shading that always gives me the most trouble. I try to draw different things, but I'm just never sure where to throw the shading. The style I'm interested in is kind of a comic book style that would lend itself to inking (if I ever get there), but watching several of your vids on shading is bolstering me to just keep at it. Thanks and keep'em coming! I love the fluidity of your lines of your chara here. It's beautiful. ^_^

  • @SeleniumGlow

    Our art teacher (the one you find in every school) got us to do the 1st kind of shading and then use a stub (usually a paper one) to "blur" or "mix" the strokes to get the even shading that you've done on the 3rd girl... and then use a eraser to bring in the highlights.
    Well, this was "another" way to get around it I guess... Thanks for this video. Definitely gained something here.

    I like the last one but I don't know that I have the patience to shade like that so I might just use the second one. You are fantastic mark crilley

    I like 3 the best, Cause it seems the most realistic and natural, and I love the soft feeling it gives off! 😁

    To me, the one in the middle is the most visually appealing, but all of them look great. They all seem useful.

    I always like the lined hair shading that follows the hair, gives it a better look, but then I prefer the third version for pretty much anything else. Well balls I like a circular kind of line shading. Thanks though this was helpful!

    Well, currently I'm making a... manga... first one as well, the regular pencil I use for school doesn't really help in this situation. So I just tried my mechanical pencil I got in an ink set and I just tried these. Works fine. BTW you're amazing.
