Louis has bonded wit you guys. That's a lifetime friend until you are old. Lots of love, a gentle hand and he will give you a lifetime of joy.
I’ve had my umbrella 17 years and still adore him . Still , DO NOT adopt any parrot without understanding they’re lot of work - partly as they are so intelligent. Guapo is still hyperactive at times and can be very demanding . Warning ! His bite can be fierce. I have many scars and at one point had to have 12 stitches . You can hear his scream a mile away so your Cockatoo will need his own space . You will have to establish who’s boss and be a strict but loving parent . Be prepared to provide for him after you’ve passed on ! Most likely he’ll outlive you . So I hope anyone who considers adopting a Cockatoo understands - your making a lifetime commitment !

I think Louis has chosen you to be his human! Birds are like that. If you're willing to take on a Molluccan (very hard work, huge time commitment, 24/7 toddler for decades), I think you'd have a birdie BFF there!
Lis Morris Yes, it's as serious as having a toddler for possibly 70 years. Someone must either have the luxury of staying home full time or having a professional babysitter, as locking them in a cage and going to work is akin to doing the same to a child. It will cause serious mental illness.

My umbrella crested has lived with a retired couple in Santa Barbara for the last 20 years, so that makes her 28. She has a wonderful full time family and another feathered brother named Elvis. They eat dinner at the table.
And the couple's daughter will take over the birds when needed. Contingency plan.
I think he's a mollucan, because he has the peachy colour on his headcrest- also, he's very big. Mind you, it's not easy to tell in a video.
I'm glad you adopted a bird- best way to get one! This mollucan looks like he'd be a serious handful at first- lots of separation anxiety there. Also, I agree with you 100%. Getting a large parrot is not a decision to be rushed into.

Steven DuVall ; Yup, parrots, especially Cockatoos get very easily depressed, y need to have someone in the household at home basically full time. And when they get sad they can get very aggressive. I had a friend taking (good) care of a Cockatoo for 3 months when her friends were at vacation. As a thank you gift, she got her nose bitten in half the last week...5 stitches right a cross. All cause she tried to give him a kiss.

These Umbrella Cockatoo's look very simular to the Australian Sulfur Crested Cockatoo's which a very intelligent and can live up too 100 years old .in fact my Aunties Cockatoo is about 80 years old and still quiet healthy and very happy .

Poor Louie...I hope he went to a loving home if you didn't get him....best thing to do is go to a rescue center if you want a bird...so many up for adoption because they were bought on a whim because they were cute...they require alot of research before getting one...it's like having a 2 years old for a life time! But all worth it! And they out live you! You got to set up trust funds for their welfare after you are gone😂 like I said..we have our Umbrella for 17 years...he is like 10 two years old running in different direction at the same time!!! I had a cockatoo named Thor, they need alot of attention, they bond to you. I had a divorce and so he lost 1 person in the home, and I had to work more so he didn't get the attention he was used to and started self mutilating. I had to give him to someone who could spend alot of time with him.Mainly for his own good, but I miss him. Don't buy one unless you can spend time and keep things consistent. They stress easily.

Tiffany Nelson YES lol mine named himself Bird (funny I know) and he picked me and because of that my African Grey hates me because he was mine first. My umbrella cockatoo literally owns the couch and coffee table and has trained the animals to run away from him and he's honestly just a spoiled brat lol

That type of Cockatoo is called a Moluccan Cockatoo... they are the largest of all the Cockatoo breeds... he was a young bird, that bird chose you. When they warm up to you and want your attention and to allow you to get close enough to pet and hold they are bonding to you because they trust you. They can speak very well and learn quickly. They're very affectionate and get along very well with other family pets. You should have bought that bird. They only bond to one person. Being chosen by him was very special. It's a shame that you didn't take him home.

A lot of times people go to pet stores and see this side of birds but to everyone reading they are not like that all the time they throw temper tantrums and can get really loud. I volunteer at a sanctuary and I see all these pluckers who were most likely impulse buys from people who didn't do their research before hand

At 735 he said I luv u. I have a cockatoo that's I luv u for sure. They make great pets but Man U gotta realize it's for life. They need many hours each day of attention. The are very noisy that's just the way they are so if u get one u can't get made at them for it. They are wonderful in so many ways but can be a pain in the ass. I'm only telling u this so u know what u are getting into. Like my cockatoo chewed up my window frame cuz u can't leave them in their cage. Then chew up my leather office chair and my keyboard and when I say chewed I mean tore it to pieces. They need many toys. They need fresh veggies and fruit and tons of lovin. Oh and baths with water. Study up on it in order to do right by him. He definitely has a connection with u. Jus remember if u get him his a member of your family for life. if u get him plez take good care of him.

Best way to keep a bird company, or any animal, is to have another companion for him/her...but might want to allow them to pick their companions instead of you because they can be very picky...
