I remember this film. It was pretty dumb. That being said, the casting department did good work. Tyra Banks as a living Barbie Doll, Lindsay Lohan as an emotionally disturbed and sociopathic child with access to the Necronomicon Ex Mortis. Perfect casting.
as completely bizarre as this movie is, I have a soft spot for it. I practically raised my little sister during summer breaks, and she had a really hard time watching movies because she had some serious fear problems. for whatever reason, Life Size was one of the few movies that she wasn't scared to watch, so she and I rented it a bunch of times. thanks for reviewing this weird but endearing movie, brought back a lot of good memories.
If I was a little child I absolutely would have preferred "sometimes things just happen" over "everything happens for a reason", and not only because it's true and I didn't like to be lied to.
+SsnakeBite Probably because girls like me. I was a tomboy and hated girly stuff. I cut the head off any Barbies I was given for Christmas until my mom stop buying them.
+SsnakeBite That's what I was wondering. Like she couldn't be girly and also not into dolls? What if she liked crafts or stuffed animals or something. It is an option.
+SsnakeBite I guess the idea of the stereotype is that tomboyish girls reject girly things...which has some truth IRL (and I'd argue that's because of society complicated relationship with "girl things") media also has a complicated relationship with tomboys...at the younger end the girl who acts tough and rejects girl things is seen as cute/likable/precocious...if she's slightly older its an indication of being "down to earth" and not some air headed "popular girl" ,its also a sign she's the love interest our main boy character SHOULD be going for but alas he just sees her as a freind UNTILL SHE GETS A MAKE-OVER! beecause if you're a tomboyish girl in a movie you have to make sure once you reach a certain age you ditch the tom-boyishness and try and fem it up for that boy you apparently like, because lord help you people are gonna think youre a lesbian if you don't drop that shit after 13 like I said...complicated

I saw this movie as a kid and had the same reaction as Lupa. I thought it was really funny that the spell worked and no one seemed to acknowledge that. Even if they decided not to bring her back to life, shit, I would have checked that book for other spells!
I'll explain, she saves the line when becoming the doll because the dolls have a hive mind mentality and once the life size dolls turns back into a dolls her individual experiences and knowledge rush back into the collective doll mind, transferring the I formation instantaneously to every doll.
to be pedantic I think it does make sense that she would "know" she did those past jobs but not actually have any of the related knowledge/ability because it's purely superficial
I would love Life-Size 2 (or the Phelous movie) to be about Phelous accidentally bringing to life Steffi Love and Bat-hero, then after failing as a super villain in the real world, she steals the neconomicon. Then the second half becomes Evil Dead-ish. She creates an army of bootlegs and it ends with an epic battle featuring various internet personalities, including Linkara who throws in some Clone Saga references (can play off the fact she wants to replace the world's populations with "bootleg" humans), Cinema Snob, etc.
LaDracul Oh, god yes...I don't know if this is common, but my Ravan came without her right hand. Why couldn't I collect something with less parts? Like rocks.
The nostalgia is hitting me hard! 😆 I loved this movie so much as a kid. This was my jam. It was dreamy. I was a fan of Lindsay because of the Parent Trap (another fave movie) and Tyra was so pretty!! lol Awesome review 💖
So, Q5 tells J. Michael Straczynski that he can't put the Necronomicon into an episode of The Real Ghostbusters, but this early 2000's Disney movie (back when they were arguably far more conservative with taboo subjects) flat out has a kid trying to resurrect her dead mother with a book of the dead.
14:45 Oh... I had the album where that song is from. Technically it was my mum's but we really liked the group. I can only describe the feeling this gives me as 'nostalgic whiplash'.
I'm happy my parents never lied to me when I asked stupid questions like "does everything happen for a reason?". The fact that my parents always said "I don't know" or "nobody really knows" when apropriate did make me bad at seeing through liars later in life though, so maybe parents bullshitting their kids is a good thing after all.
I HAD the video when it was new and STILL watched it whenever it was on TV:) "Okay--DRESS ME!" "Real food!" "Yeah, that's what I love about this place. REAL food. Not like one of those hip, trendy places." "I had a car like this in Sunnyvale, but you had to push it." "I had a car like that once. AAA cancelled me." "What state is that in?" "The Sunshine State!" "Oh...Florida." "Oh! I broke a nail! You're not gonna throw me away, are you?!" "Do you know Apple or Windows?" "Both. I love apples!" Then at the faculty party she's singing her theme song and everyone's singing along:) "Shine bright, shine far, be a star! Where you live, where you are, BE A STAR!"
I remember catching it back on the Disney Channel in 2002 and my sister and I remember singing that song from the movie before and still, she knows the words!
"they imply her mother's death was pointless" I mean personally I'd be more offended if someone insisted that the bad things that happened in my life/losing people I loved was actually okay because "it's all part of Someone's plan." To me, this implies that either human life or human suffering is cheap and unimportant enough that the omnipotent Being couldn't be arsed to find a way around it in order to carry out Their plans. It also implies that that's why it's actually good that this painful thing happened/why your feelings of sadness about it aren't okay or are only okay up to a point, and that you owe it to the universe to find some kind of positive thing in your pain. Idk I realize YMMV on this, but if someone told me that my getting multiple sclerosis was all part of God's plan, I'd want to punch them in the face. Sometimes bad things just happen, and sometimes pain is just pain.
Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but the b-plot about the woman in the office only looking more attractive and being more confident after she's told to wear makeup and smile more... it kinda sounds like something a sexist male boss would tell her.
3:15 actually, Like with Angelica and Cynthia in the Rugrats, some times girls get attached to dolls because they remind them of their mothers, like with Angelica's mom always at work, she treated the doll like a confidant to all her problems, like a child might do with their mothers
Geez, I remember this movie. Only thing I remember is dad's love interest messes up little girl's resurrection spell (somehow I missed how messed up that is) and she ends up with Tyra Banks instead. Something wacky hijinks, something bonding, something tearful goodbye and learning about what's really important in life. This review was hilarious! It made me smieyes.
I often find myself singing the “be a star “ song. I often get it stuck in my head accidentally and eventually I get to the chorus and then have to sing it! Lmao Thanks...
House with a Clock in its Walls meets Mannequin meets Parent Trap, what's not to love? Ahem. No. Well tihs was back in 2015, so the House books, not the 2018 movie, and a little bit of Hellraiser and Weird Schience. Ha.
It's kind of sad seeing Lindsay Lohan in anything from Mean Girls and earlier. I forget just how much life she had in her eyes. 17:40 "Death is pointless, that's the point." Anubis; _Gargoyles_
I think they could have maybe improved the whole movie and especially the ending if the Eve doll line was already kinda outdated and sexist, like if barbie never evolved past the 50s and all the doll's potential careers were homemaker or cheerleader or model. Then it makes sense that the doll line is failing, and you have lindsay lohan hating the doll because it's "girly" in a bad way. Then maybe the arc of the movie is Eve learning about and enjoying stuff that isn't traditionally feminine, and lindsay lohan in the process learning that being "girly" isn't inherently bad. Then at the end, the "new" eve dolls are ones with varied careers, more strong role model types- maybe even one with a football outfit like Lindsay's. Even as a kid I never quite understood why films seem to be under the impression that being a tomboy and enjoying girly stuff are mutually-exclusive.
+SsnakeBite Probably because girls like me. I was a tomboy and hated girly stuff. I cut the head off any Barbies I was given for Christmas until my mom stop buying them.

SsnakeBite Or that we had to like girly stuff because we were girls despite it being clear we didn't enjoy it.
I could watch the entire length of America's Next Top Model as long as Allison and Phelan were making fun of it
YES
America's Next Top Modelling Nights 🤣
That would be great. I'm all for it.
Rather watch that show with Ashley Graham in it so I can enjoy more of HER. Also, I would like that too.
I saw this movie as a kid and had the same reaction as Lupa. I thought it was really funny that the spell worked and no one seemed to acknowledge that. Even if they decided not to bring her back to life, shit, I would have checked that book for other spells!

Very disappointed that the Life Size world wasn't in Kingdom Hearts 3.
🤣ok that’s the best comment I’ve ever seen!
21.12.2021
There’s always Kingdom Hearts 3.7
@@guiltygearalonecompl yep
They should totally review America's Next Top Model
15:39 Allison's delivery of that line was much better than Tyra's. More feeling, which made it actually funny.
While there's nothing of Tyra's likeness specifically there *was* a line of 'top model' brand dolls for a very limited time XD
this movie has the exact same plot as Full metal alchemist.
And all it costed was a little brother, an arm, and a leg
@@quinnzykir
FOR WHAT CAN EQUAL THE VALUE OF A HUMAN SOUL?!
Life Size 2: Lohan gets a dog
Me: Oh no...
My theory as to why the doll couldn't do any of her jobs was because that model was not part of the play-set. This movie confused me as a kid.
to be pedantic I think it does make sense that she would "know" she did those past jobs but not actually have any of the related knowledge/ability because it's purely superficial
Lol, Allison's face when Phelan says Ecstasy...that was perfect.
Tyra Banks gave Miley Cyrus a photo of herself as a teen for Miley's birthday present. This really happened.
Wow really?
Idk that.
That is weird
I used a VHS copy of this movie to Fix my VHS copy of Days of Thunder.
I keep the spools that the movie is on in my nightstand for a later date.
Omg, your jean jacket is off the hook!
I would love Life-Size 2 (or the Phelous movie) to be about Phelous accidentally bringing to life Steffi Love and Bat-hero, then after failing as a super villain in the real world, she steals the neconomicon. +Dr. Penguinstein No, not Linkara, Fat Grandma should be the hero that saves the day when everyone else fails to defeat the bootleg army!
I would totally watch that. And they were joined by GIANT DIZZY GILLESPIE
They now have a life size 2, you got yur wish
Stefi should be Lucy Lawless
"Awww. That hurts my feels."
I still have fond memories of this movie
"WHY IS HER HAIR SEWED INTO THE BOX?!" Yeah, that's me whenever I'm unboxing one of my fantasy high school dolls...
EAH??
+Dead Master Yep, same with MH.
LaDracul Oh, god yes...I don't know if this is common, but my Ravan came without her right hand. Why couldn't I collect something with less parts? Like rocks.
+Dead Master Some people have noticed quality control at Mattel going down, I was told to examine my SDCC purchases before I left the pick up area.
Perfect timing to watch this because I just found out their making a Life Size 2!
Gotta love Phelan turning into Old Man at 5:46
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid. It may not be perfect, but I still love it.
This is a weird remake of "Child's Play".
or a really bizarre predecessor to Ted!
or a less creepy A Ted Named Gooby
I was also thinking Mannequin, too
And Weird Science.
The only thing missing is Tyra's character not becoming a giant lizard after getting upset and eating people.
Thanks for the old man joke Phelous!!
The best reviewer combo there is! Then again maybe no surprise there is such a great chemistry with you guys. ; )
I love the intro, reminds me of getting ready to see some cheesy lifetime movie with my sister's in the 90s
"C'est la Vie" by B*Witched is a song with strong sexual undertones, kinda funny how it's used in a children's film
Almost as strange as playing '7 Seconds' over a sex scene in a horror film.
@@eamonndeane587 Or "Hey Man" during a basketball game.
lol I had that Baywatch Barbie doll, the dolphin squealed when you pulled it's lever thing

FUCK Q5 . 🤨
Maybe Q5 objected to the name "The Necronomicon." This film shows only "Holcrofts Book of the Dead."
Even watching this as a child I knew that that final "Be a Star" sequence was completely pointless and out of nowhere
14:45 Oh... I had the album where that song is from. Technically it was my mum's but we really liked the group.
I can only describe the feeling this gives me as 'nostalgic whiplash'.
I know this is an old video but Allison, your hair is beautiful!
I'm happy my parents never lied to me when I asked stupid questions like "does everything happen for a reason?". I remember catching it back on the Disney Channel in 2002 and my sister and I remember singing that song from the movie before and still, she knows the words!
Holy crap I remember this! This used to be on Disney channel all the time!
You know the idea that a child created a barbie doll homunculus by trying resurrect their dead mother would make great Anime.
"they imply her mother's death was pointless" I mean personally I'd be more offended if someone insisted that the bad things that happened in my life/losing people I loved was actually okay because "it's all part of Someone's plan." It’s definitely not the right thing to say regardless of religious beliefs or not 😅
Allison is ROCKING the 70s lesbian who probably owns a motorcycle look in this vid

Tyra was so pretty back in the day.

Speaking of: Between this and 'Smart House,' Disney really liked B*witched, even if they're not That good.
I remembered this movie way differently. Thanks for destroying my childhood lol
Such a rad jean jacket !
Starring Jesse Pinkman's AA Chairman as the father!
"I killed my daughter"
Nice moves at the end bb!
so disney had it's own version of "childsplay", suddenly i wanna see a crossover :D
I think they could have maybe improved the whole movie and especially the ending if the Eve doll line was already kinda outdated and sexist, like if barbie never evolved past the 50s and all the doll's potential careers were homemaker or cheerleader or model. No Lindsey in Life Size 2.
Oh man! Why'd you have to suggest the idea of a Mitch Buchannon doll coming to life!? Now I feel like we've been robbed of an incredible movie! That would have been great 😊
Hobie 2 doll sold separately. Death Pier not included.
I would pay money for that
Lohan: oh doll hair is here let me get rid of that. Then the mom is ressurcted and then there is a lot of paper work at the social security office.

Noiw that the sequel came out, will there be a vlog about it?
OMG I remember this got this from my BFF for my 9th birthday XD the doll creeped me out

Get ready to review the sequel, Alison. It's happening!!!!!!!
Ha HA!! (Sounding like Steven Colbert from Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law)
I was going to ask if the show is scripted but the bit about not knowing the date of the film answers it.
11:48 Buddy was there because he was redeemed, he was chauvinistic , then Tyra gave him a talking to, and then he stopped being a dick, because I guess Tyra was really just that awesome
I'm VERY sorry to say this, but "Top Model" will be returning this December--on VH1
7:02 Eve's hair is clearly brown not black.
The end reminds me of malibu stacy getting the new hat
Oh I remember this film.
They all going to root at you, Carrie!!
Kinda wish it was a movie about Steffi Love.
Come on everybody, smize smize smize!
Fill the film up with ego! Ego!
All she really wants is smize smize smize
I can't believe Tyra Banks was a thing!
wait, she worked on Sunnyvale PD? She must have busted the trailer park boys!
It just hit me: both this and I-Man are Disney. So they can make Tyra Banks into a Disney Princess or Marvel Superhero. Or both. MODELLAND! ONLY ON DISNEY +!
I appreciate the later video on Top Model so I got the references in this video :)
Ah yes... carcanceritis. The deadliest fictional disease
haha :P
This was the OG Barbie movie
This video was 8...nearly 9 yesrs ago now...
I guess either the person who cast the spell or the person brought to life can reverse it.
so the big question: have you watched Life Size 2 yet? and is it worth reviewing?
Can you make a sequel to this video where you review the movie _Small Soldiers?_
7:35 Help, I'm dying...
I Like this movie do you still have one
I wonder if the spell had worked on the mom would she become a zombie? Eve didn’t but that was different.
Now I want Allison to do manic episodes of ANTM
Man I really should there's so much GOLD
Movie Nights I'd love to see that.
Movie Nights OMG PLEASE PLEASE DO IT!!! It would be the *tits* and yes there is so much *COMEDY* *GOLD*
