Recently bought the Nemo Dagger and was told that the MSR Hubba Hubba is a good side choice but could only get it second hand now. So far I would say I made the right choice with the Nemo Dagger tent. It looks great, easy to pitch, guy lines are not just hanging and are many points to do, storage tub to keep your gear dry, and the space. Sure it is more heavier but I can deal with that with the quality to life features it offers.
I got the Nemo Dagger Osmo 3P and love it. Only issue I’ve had is that the zipper gets snagged at the bottom a bit where the landing zone clips on. Fly dries super fast!
Have the Hubba Hubba and a Nemo Hornet, happy with both, but sure like the looks of that Dagger... tents sure have come a long way in my 50 years of camping... great job, good luck with the channel
You are so right about the changes in tents over the last 50 years! I grew up with canvas tents, then went backpacking in the mid to late 1970s with the original pup tents!

lol no way, with ground sheet and MSR stakes that NEMO is 4 pounds! That nuts, thats more than my MSR Freelight and solo Lunar combined. As for durability My Luanr has a 20D/40D construction, the MSR is 15D 100%. There are so many 2 person tents now just over 2lbs and thats with the ground sheet etc. Thanks for the video, MSR vestibules are to small, the Luanar solo is so nice for Dad...me
@@SneakyCaleb The NEMO is constructed like the MSR and my solo lunar single wall can take high winds, snow, etc it has a 40D floor and 20 D sides, even hell storms are held at bay. The NEMO is a great tent, but way too heavy. Now if I owned one would I replace it? Yes, it weights more than twice the weight of my other tents. Now if I was 20 years old would I replace it....NO, its a nice tent, Im 20 an extra 1 pound, 1.5 pounds is nothing for that 20 year old. Owe I dont like the door design of my MSR in rain but then again at 2 pounds....double wall, who cares. Weight is everything, and if you feel its not, maybe you're not walking enough ....right? Do 15 miles in a day, 20 and that pack will get heavy as hell.
@@BaaSicStuff you can make up for it by lowering the weight of other gear. The free standing design and pole structure is stronger on the dagger than those other tents
@@SneakyCaleb I deal in ounces, their are 32 onces in 2 pounds. Thats equal to 20 pocket knives, 1 back packing chair/book, 1 Days Full load out of food, Sleeping bag/Pad, Days water 30oz, Hatchet/survival knife. If one is going to spend $400 on a tent for back packing, weight is your number one consideration, the new standard is 2 pounds, not 4 pounds. In the 4 pound range currently you can find plenty of solid wall tents very well under $200, why? Cause 4 pounds is no longer the standard. Its not that the NEMO or take for instance the Hubahuba are bad tents and they may be a good option where I was camping in snow, where I would be leaving somethings home and a heavier tent would be useful. My pack fully loaded for 2 nights is 20-27 lbs with water/food also
Thanks for this side by side comparison. In so many other reviews of the MSR, people have complained about the splinters from the poles. If they're rough on your hands, the splinters probably won't be good for the fabric.
I believe you can order from REI and get it imported, although I'd be really careful with that as you might get slapped with extortionate import charges.
Yes it was. In fact, it was just used this last winter on several trips with the coldest being right around 0 Fahrenheit and getting about 3-4” of snowfall. Tent performed fine and ventilated well. I wouldn’t be concerned using it for the occasional winter trip. I would opt for a 4 season tent with heavier snow load (especially if it’s a wet snow), and if you are experiencing any significant winds.
Hi there, thanks for the review. I'm leaning towards the Nemo. However I have a question if you do not mind. Some reviews say that the part of the bathtube that is exposed due to the rainfly being to high in the middle of the two corners, can experience leaking and moisture after heavy raining. Other reviews say that after heavy raining remained dry. What has being your experience regarding this issue? Thanks!
Thank you for a great video, but I am still confused :) I can't descide between the two. I am going on a one week hike in the norwegian mountains (above the threeline) this summer and I need a tent that can take heavy wind and rain. I thought I had my mind set on the MSR, but now I am unsure again :P
Thank you! I faced the same dilemma. Personally, after handling the two and seeing the Dagger in action I am glad I made that choice. The additional guy lines provide extra rigidity in heavy winds - an essential being out of the tree-line. However, cost and availability of the tents may prove to be deciding factors in your decision. Keep in mind materials too, you may like the new proprietary blend NEMO produced bringing the best of both worlds that nylon and polyester can provide maintaining less stretch and great waterproofing! Hope this helps. You really can’t make a wrong choice between these two though!

Is it just me, or is the overall height of the bathtub floor on the Dagger Osmo a lot lower than on the previous Dagger 2p? That could be a deal breaker in terms of rain splashback and drafts. And secondly, is there a significant price differential between the Osmo and the equivalent older model? Any info would be appreciated, thanks.
@@martinkingston1498 the bathtub is, if anything, higher on the Osmo. Not to mention the fly has such good coverage you'd have no problem with splashback. Also, having additional stake out points on top of the guy out points AND thicker fabric, I'd say it'd fair better above treeline.
The Nemo has more guy outs on the tent, but I do not see anymore coverage with the rain fly over the bathtub floor than the Hubba Hubba. Both tents probably will get some splashback in torrential downpours, but there may be more protection from splashback getting in through the mesh on the doors with the Hubba Hubba, since the fabric on the MSR goes higher than the Nemo on the doors of the inner tent. The MSR has a lower profile than the Nemo making it not catch the wind as much. The Easton poles on the MSR are very flexible in strong wind won't break or bend like aluminum.
Agreed, although the Nemo Dagger is a good tent, I've been using the MSR Hubba Hubba for over 2 years. It's been extremely solid in some pretty harsh conditions. As for the poles. I'm extremely satisfied. No splintering at all, very lightweight & great high wind performance. Overall I'm very pleased with the tent.
Personally I feel the Dagger is just a better designed tent almost universally. The fact that it isn't such ugly colors is just a bonus. ;) The challenge is that, at least here in Canada, the Dagger OSMO is unicorn dust. Can't find it anywhere.

Our Hubba Hubba delaminated rain fly with pinholes leaks like a sieve. MSR made no apology or explanation. We did not abuse this tent. We have other tents by Northface and REI that do not leak. Do not buy MSR tents unless you want poor materials and poor customer service.

Those other tents will suffer in heavy rain/wind. The Nemo dagger will handle 50 mph winds with ease.

They replace any poles that give splinters.
It's only some batches, not all.

I haven’t had any issues with it in my experiences.
Some of those reviews are probably of the older model that had issues with some leaks
This is my question too, nemo rain cover looks shorter.
Is the interior width of the NDO truly 50”, as the company claims? That’s super important for those who have 25” wide sleeping pads.

I've used the hubba hubba for the past couple of years camping in Montana, its held up great

I am a prettyt tall person, do you think i can sit up without having to tilt my head in the dagger?
MSR seems to be everyone's whipping boy. I'm yet to see any MSR tent win a "shootout" against any Nemo or BA tent.

You can put the landing zone on either side of the tent but it only comes with one!
I got the Dagger OSMO 3P and it also comes with only 1 landing zone but you can attach it either sides.

Unbelievable the Hubba Hubba has all that white material instead of mesh.
In some locations it's very helpful, including in the mountains here in New Zealand. Keeps us warmer on cold nights and keeps the raindrops out. 😅
