Man..I was basically laughing at the moment John hook up on those fish.I never seen a guy catching blackfish casting. He really knows where to cast and where the fish are holding.Amazing Angler. All respect to you!
John that water clarity is priceless. Looks good. That would be cool if blackfish ran beaches in huge numbers because they are pound for pound one of the hardest fighters if not the hardest inshore fish for its size.
I don't even know why I watch your videos anymore. Pure torture. "Hey look I'm surfcasting for keeper Tog..." "Oh HEY LOOKEY HERE! Albies just happened to pop up right in front of me..." First cast hookup. "Hmmmm this is an okay spot..." Yeah. No shit John. Lol. You are the best man. Love it as always.
This was amazing! Two species of fish that i really wanna catch at some point but probably wont anytime soon and both from shore what an amazing video!!! 👏 👏 👏
wtf, this man can do anything! Never heard of a tog caught from shore Love watching those albies swim around, they're so stiff with it, like little robo-fish
Thank you for the great video. I invite you to see where it is. Blackfish moving on the fishing rod, the sound of the drag of the reel that seems to burst!!! Can you tell me the fishing rod information you use? I hope try jig fishing.
Very interesting for me. Your Blackfish are similar in habit and habitat to our Eastern Blue Groper here in NSW, Australia. Our Groper grow bigger but are also heavily structure oriented and eat a diet of crustaceans. The most common rig in my area is a small running ball sinker directly down to a size 2/0 to 5/0 hook. I'm curious to try your jigs as an option. The hook point riding up on the sea bed sounds like it could save me plenty of snags.
While it’s obviously not a guarantee, it’s good to hear that you didn’t lose any jigs, as that was my first thought about this type of fishing. I’ve also found that these jigs catch fewer bottom weeds than others I’ve used - likely due to the hook position.
GoPro can repair a corrupted file. Put corrupt file into camera and turn it on with a charged battery. The gopro should recognize the corrupt file and ask you if you want it to repair it. This happened to me before when my camera ran out of battery while filming.
I have a tsunami trophy II as well. Such a great and affordable rod. I’ve got to go out and grab these togs. While I don’t have sweeper jigs yet, would a drop shot rig be as effective with a lead and a 2/0 or 3/0 hook?
Hey John awesome catch!! I used to fish blackfish off the beach too 40 years ago. I would spike my rod and big blackfish would drag my rod into the water!! What the hell made you say let me try this? Great idea . Tight lines!!
Nice video john. I see you fish here ina lot your videos. yet to figure out where it is. anyone have any suggestions in north shore where i can go fishing for blacks?
Hi John, I am looking to buy reel and rod for black fishing on the surf as I do not have a boat. I would most likely fish from the shore, just like yourself in this video. Conventional wisdom say get a tall rod, so you won't get stuck, and then there is action/power, etc. I do not fish a lot so, all that information confuse me. Any recommendations on size of rod and reel? I live in the Northeast - Awesome videos! Appreciate it.
John did you ever make that separate video of how to use google maps? You mentioned about 15:00 in that you had a separate video coming for that. For example, I'm down by the jersey shore and good maps doesn't show any rocks either in the ocean, or in the many outlets connected to the ocean
John where are you fishing ? The water clarity is amazing. Also do you think the beach covered with rocks and boulders helped in having more success. I know my area beaches are sandy bottoms. Would I still find blackfish on sandy beaches ?
Mr. Skinner. Had my first beach stroll along eastern LI Sound this past weekend (don’t want to spot burn), pebble beach, rocks, etc. Saw a lot of small lobster tails. Enough to make me wonder what’s preying on them? Seals? Bass? Tog? I’d say tails were from 1lb & smaller lobs. Thought you’d have some ideas. Thank for any reply.
John Skinner Fishing yes sir. Was on the north fork. Sound side. East of Marion. Easy parking. There were enough on the beach I had to ask about it. Was there over Columbus wknk and no evidence of such so this has occurred in the last few weeks. Thank you always sharing and teaching.
When I feel the taps and don’t hurry or set the hook, I feel nothing else till I feel back and realize there’s no crab on the hook. They are excellent at stealing those crabs.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing It's so frustrating that the Jersey season doesn't open till Nov 15th. Basically a FU to shore and kayak fisherman who can't follow them to the deep water.
How far from the rock do you have to land the jig? you mentioned at the end, 50 feet away from the rock and you wont be catching anything? Within what radius of the structure does your jig have to be?

First time viewer of your stuff John! Include a rough idea of where you;re fishing each trip? All that information in the description for tackle, bags and camera equipment except no general location mentioned? Weird. Luckily, the rocky shore line and accent is giving it away enough ;)
I caught them from the beach before it’s tricky. This Asian guy at Hortons point was a master always got his limit. Copied him just never did that well . Gonna give it another try after watching this video
@@JohnSkinnerFishing that's awesome John. Thanks for the reply. I fish outta DE and South Jersey. We don't have the beach terrain/bottom you do. All sand. I wish I could catch a Blackfish off the beach lol. Looks so awesone. All Jetty's and Wrecks here. Thanks for sharing!

I'm on Long Island Sound. You need rocks or similar structure for blackfish.
Any reason why you tie direct to jig? No clip?
Trying to keep it as simple as possible with minimal hardware.
where is loacated ?

hello mr where is this fishing located ?
Is this rig good for bottom fishing or off a party boat ? Going out of Port Washington .
Yes, if you're not fishing strong currents. I'd also bring a sinker/hook setup.
what was the length?

There's a link in the video description.

hey john im having trouble locating tog from shore , ive tried multiple clusters of rocks on the north shore is the april season any different?
John what surf rod and size would you recommend for all around use just getting into it here on Long Island, looking at the trophy 2 rods
If your fishing includes the ocean, I'd get the 10-foot Trophy 2. If mostly bays and Sound, the 8 1/2-footer.
I forgot they have a 9-footer. That may be your best choice.
What size reel for a 9’ 5000?
Perfect.
