  • This is part 1 of my Pentastar 3.6L tear down series. In this video I take you along as I take apart a Chrysler Pentastar 3.6L while discussing the various parts of the engine and explain how they work. It's a fun video and a bit of a deviation from my normal "how to" stuff. I hope you enjoy!
Note: this video Is a very high level overview of this engine and the parts inside. This video should not take the place of a manual and the tear down methods used are not meant to be used. It's just a fun and informational video....that probably doesn't have all the information you could ever need for this engine.
Also, toward the end of the video I referred to the cam sprockets as "variable cam timing units" and "cam phasers". They can also be know as "Variable Valve Timing Units or Sprockets". Just an FYI.
Information about his engine and the specs at the beginning of this video was sourced from Wikipedia.

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. Have a 3.6 Pentastar V6 with E-torque in my Wrangler. Was curious to see the valve train assembly, especially lifters. Hope you can go into more detail in part 2.

Coworker took the heads off and quit his job... leaving me with nothing labeled at all.. I've done countless headjobs but never this specific engine, this video was perfect to help speed up the process of sorting out the random bolts and parts and take a lot of stress off of my shoulders

Expert explanation of this engine. Looks very complexed. I bet clean oil is very important. I change mine at 4,000 with synthetic 5w-20.

This engine gets a lot of heat for its early issues with the rocker arms. But it’s a very decent motor overall. It has a good balance of power and fuel economy and it doesn’t use DI.

I'd have to agree with your point that it's an overall good engine. Thanks for the comment!

I had this P.O.S. motor in my 2016 Town and Country, bought it at 10k miles and by 78k miles I had 2 coil pack,8 rockers,4 rods, full coolant system replaced, all work was done under extended warranty, last straw for me was getting it back and saying to the guy ,cam phasers are clicking..sorry unless there's an error code we can't fix...There is no code for Cam phasers on this motor, This motor could've been as great as the 3.8 buick, unfortunately Chrysler chose to use cheap vendors, great detailed video
