Looking at Mister's hands he might be in a position to bring home wild rocks from work. As someone who has been mocked for uttering the phrase "interesting rocks" i find y'all's enthusiasm to be heartening.
Man I want to get into rock tumbling - but I also see how small they get and my brain is like "Noooooooo" lol. This was super cute, y'all are adorable together!
They're awesome shiny rocks! Thats all that matters! As for the mug, look up Light Phthalo Green. I personally dig the Phthalos with more blue, but the whole range of them are gorgeous. This was a super fun video!
I adore your guy's banter! More long videos pretty please with PotEmeralds on top?! I love seeing the turn outs and learning from you two. Thanks for sharing with us! 😊
Lol, most men have some degree of color blindness. Most common is red-green, and it often affects the ability to distinguish colors with blue or green in them-like emeralds and, apparently, coffee cups! ;) Watching you both work with these stones and how you see the colors really highlights how differently we all see the world-literally and figuratively. Thanks for the entertaining video, and keep up the awesome rock-tumbling!
Yes and no! On paper the emerald is a mohs 7.5-8 and the carnelian is a 7, so they should tumble well together. But the emerald’s matrix is softer. I’m not exactly sure what it is, but I’m guessing around a 5. The carnelian may have been part of the reason the emeralds matrix wore down so quickly. I might try tumbling another batch of these on their own to see if it makes a difference!
@@moonriserocks that’s so weird! If the matrix is softer than the emeralds themselves would tumbling them always result in scratches ? Bc the stones are breaking themselves ..
I’m sorry I had to laugh! He is like me as a kid, my Grandfather was the ONLY person who could calm me down and get me to listen and concentrate on what he was teaching me. The man had the patience of a saint. Just seeing him this excited made me excited and now I NEED MORE ROCKS! P.S. my grandfather was a geologist and a HUGE rockhounding! He gave me my Diamond and when we moved to another state he gave me his rock collection that he started as a child and was still collecting when he gave me his collection. He also liked tumbled rocks that still had naturally raw bits, me too!
I have a theory as to why they got shiny after the Borax bath; First of all, they "bathed" for 3 days, instead of the usual 1 hour to 1 day.. Secondly, the Ceramic does have a slight abbrasive effect. Even used ceramics. Thirdly, Borax is slightly chemically abbrasive. So what I think happened is that they actually did a Stage 3,5 if you will. The ceramics and borax combined with the tumbling did actualy polish them a bit, both chemically and mechanically. Could be worth looking into as an alternative polishing stage for more delicate/softer minerals. Also, about the Emeralds matching the coffe-thing (Thermos?); Some of them looked the same color to me... But I am colorblind. Has he been tested for colorblindness..?
I love this so much, I'm hoping to get a tumbler in a few months! This has taught me a great deal. Love the interactions between you both and glad you found his favorite emerald ❤
When I have purchased shined emerald in matrix, that's basically what happens. The emerald becomes beautiful, while the matrix never takes a shine. I wish I knew what mineral it was...
So you had three spoonfulls of grit for three pounds of rocks at the start, but it stays at 3 spoonfulls for the medium sizes even though the weight of the rocks gets dramatically less after the first tumble?
I watch u on TT all the time, and remember these "episodes" and the waaaaaaiting!!! Ahh this is just so much fun to again watch it, but all together in one big thing!!! 😂😂😂😂 Btw, I've always wondered, can/do u have amethysts and turquoise??? Can they be home tumbled? Would u ever do them?
If the matrix is softer than emerald i would experiment and grind away all the matrix. Maybe you would be left with some teeny tiny green beryls. Beryl is 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale of hardness.
manganese present in the beryl instead of the chromium normally found in emeralds, is why they had that red color. I did like the 'emeralds ate the carnelian' theory tho, more entertaining. 😂
I don't understand why people in the US tumble emerald specimens. Those rough Brazilian Emerald pieces are highly sought after in Europe and highly prized among mineral collectors even the low quality ones.
Media can actually be helpful in stage 1 when your rocks aren’t a good mix of sizes! It fills in the gaps between larger rocks and creates more friction points so that they tumble more evenly.
I really enjoy your interactions with your husband. So much happy chaos.
It’s really pleasant. The fact that he’s learning the craft is nice to.

Though the emeralds didn't turn out well, those carnelians are stunning!

Were the carneilian and emerald matrix the same mohs ? I’m always worried mixing rough

Not him wiping out the grit over the barrel. It probably ended up in there anyway. 😂

Novice beginner here: love this! I was told to never wash the slurry down your sink drain? What is your secret? LOVE this video!!!!
Her sink actually has a bucket underneath, instead of being connected to the sewer line!
You can see them dump it outside in some of the videos!
gofundme to get him some emeralds...
I would like to see you both enjoy some pot emeralds 🙃
i write the date as well
The cup is sky blue.
I’m low key in love with your husband without ever seeing him. 😛
You're pouring it down your drain?!? noooooo
Why doesn't it look like the bright green that you see on emerald rings and necklaces.? I am very disappointed!

You're going have a major drain clog in the future.
Lol she gets this comment a lot. It drains into a bucket she's good.
I hope you are not putting that slurry down your drain!
He’s an intermediate but has no clue what he’s doing.. got it
Not emeralds
Why do you say that?
Ohhh god, this man is soooo speed ! It tires me 😅
never use media in stage 1
Media can actually be helpful in stage 1 when your rocks aren’t a good mix of sizes! It fills in the gaps between larger rocks and creates more friction points so that they tumble more evenly.
slows it down takes longer and you waste more grit i don't know anyone who would
