Are we not talking about how every Oz respawn costs another their choices.... he's like a possession. You can be angry with Salem, but truthfully maybe, she just wants accountability?
One thing I like about Salem as a villain is that she does not underestimate her opponents, or at least tries her damnedest not to. She evaluates people's strengths and weaknesses and judges them appropriately. Oh sure, she's very confident in her victory, but every move is still calculated and she knows that if she leaves the good guys enough room to regroup and form a good strategy, they very much have a chance. This kind of reflects in the way she treated Cinder and the rest of her underlings in episode 1. Whereas everyone is ridiculing Cinder for what she failed to do, Salem actually recognized what she had actually accomplished. She's strict, and undoubtably evil, but in her own way, she's just. I still want to see her fail just like everyone else here, but... she's a pretty damn solid villain, and that gives her a really, really good chance of winning, or at the very least successfully scarring the world before going down.
of course, she has who knows how many centuries of experience to draw from, and hasn't gone quite as insane as other villains with similar life spans, in part probably because of her 'blessings', as opposed to Ozpin, who is probably only as 'sane' as he is because of fresh injections of sanity into the gestault every couple decades
This song just keeps getting new ways it can be interpreted. Initially towards it seemed like it was being directed at Pyrrah by Salem, then it seemed like it was Raven was directing it at Ozpin, AND THEN it seemed like it could be directed at Salem from Ozpin's perspective, or vice versa after the lost fable, and now it also fits *really* well as a counterpart to Hero, as a sort of rebuke to Ironwood. How much foreshadowing can you fit into *ONE SONG*?
That pic of Ruby... If that's really what happened, I want to see a "flashback" to that fight where we see what Ruby actually did to freeze that Grimm and wound Cinder like she did. She looks like some kind of demon.
Yal Rathol "Are we heroes keeping peace, or are we weapons pointed at the enemy so someone else can claim a victory?" from Time to Say Goodbye comes to mind when you put it like that.
It definitely seems like it's either Ozpin and Salam talking or Raven talking to Salam. Because we still don't know why Salam hates Ozpin and Ozpin is the only one that's taken lives through his regeneration and the maidens but also come no closer to his goal of peace. where salam has made sacrifices and taken lives but has become closer to her goal. It's very hard to pin point because it applies to a few characters.
I've heard a recent theory that this song is actually sung by Raven to Ozpin. She sees Ozpin as a manipulator who sacrifices others to further his goal, but no matter how many huntsmen and huntresses die, he's no closer to beating Salem. So she left; she won't be part of Ozpin's game and that's why she'll fight only to protect herself and her clan.
Just wondering, Could the part about the "Moon sadly watching the 'roses' die, in vain..." have something to do with Summer and Ruby? Since, you know, both of them have 'Rose' as their last name. Probably something to do with Summer dying in vain and now Ruby is becoming a huntress. I mean Ruby's song 'Red like Roses' has the part where it goes "Don't live your life in vain" and "I made a sacrifice and forced a bigger sacrifice on you"
I know I am hella late about that comment, but I'm pretty sure "Sacrifice", "Red like roses Part 2" and "Divide" confirm that Summer died by Salem's hand.
I'm more worried about the whole watch the Roses die line than who the song is about "Roses" Rose(s) plural so does that mean summer isn't the first "Rose" to die for Ozpin or that she isn't the last....
I'm pretty sure this is from Raven's perspective, and she thinks it is likely Ruby will die too (but it's a perspective, she doesn't really know for sure).
Wings (vol. 1): Don't give up and keep moving forward (edge: 0/10) Sacrifice (vol 2): FUCK U *DAD* YOU DON'T CONTROL ME (edge: 7/10) Divide (vol 3): VILLAIN ROCK ANTHEM (edge: ∞) Armed and Ready (vol 4): *Yang kicks open door* FUCK YOU ADAAAAAMMMM (edge: 6/10)
I still think this song is from Raven's point of view towards Ozpin. It was part of the Volume 2 soundtrack, which was the first time we saw Raven. She blames Ozpin for sacrificing people in his war against Salem, such as Summer, and still not getting the job done ('The moon will sadly watch the roses die in vain, lost, no gain'; 'What if all the plans you made were not worth the price they paid, even with the lives you stole, still no closer to your goal'). She knows about the relics, which makes me think Ozpin tried to recruit her - and while she may have joined him for a while, she left after deciding Ozpin couldn't win (which she alludes to in 'Family'). She refuses to just be another pawn in Ozpin's losing game ('You can't have my life, I'm not your sacrifice'; 'Most of all, I won't fall for you'). Admittedly, we know very little about Raven as a character, but I feel like this song fits pretty well with what we *do* know, and helps to fill in some of the unknowns (just like From Shadows hinted at Blake's faunus heritage long before it was revealed). Just my thoughts.
Other Grimm After the 4th chapter of Volume 5... yeah, this is DEFINITELY Raven's song. And with that in mind, Raven seems... genuinely hurt and betrayed by Ozpin. Maybe he did something that caused Summer's death. Maybe Raven loved her team more than initially thought.
at 2:40 if you have the perfect volume and are wearing headphones and it's not too loud around you, you can hear your heart beating during this very errie drop in mood...and its pretty amazing. especially if you're actually watching the images on the screen
YES! (Edit: I think I should elaborate...) Thing is, I used to think Sacrifice was Raven singing to Ozpin. Other speaker/addressee pairings just didn't make sense to me. But now V8C6 has dropped and Cinder's "Cinderella" song starts with the same motif as Sacrifice, giving hard evidence that Sacrifice was from Cinders perspective all along, but how does this song make sense from Cinders perspective? This. This is frustrating. Let's wait and see...
@@nuvaboy This passage from 2:42 to the word "Goal". To me it has something to do with Cinder. "All the lives you stole"- Reference to the fall of Beacon and the thousands that died then due to her actions. "Still no closer to your goal"- Well...as the volumes go, she still isn't making that much progress. Her plans have been thwarted quite a few times by now... Or wait...I think I have an even better idea.. What if... The leitmotif of this song and cinder's song in V8 are so similar is because... Sacrifice is also about not surrendering yourself to someone else's will. Not being their sacrifice on their plans so to speak. Well... Cinder, given what we've recently seen with Salem mirroring her abusive stepmom, might feel that way about Salem.
- Part 2 lol - Honestly, this song is genius. It doesn't just work for just one character in RWBY but for so many... Raven to Ozpin. Cinder to Salem. RWBY and JNPR to Ozpin if you think about it. This song is an anthem to those characters that felt that they were/are treated as nothing but pawns on the chessboard of two gods.(Salem and Ozpin). And more recently... Even The heroes to Ironwood with that "Pierce the sky, escape your fate." In the end, the main message of the song is really about all those characters that feel like they are just being used by the "chessmasters" of the series.(Ozpin ; Salem ; even Ironwood more recently...) Yes, In RWBY, there are two types of characters : •The Chessmasters: Driven by keeping the world under their control for whatever reasons they have. Ozpin and Ironwood because they fear Salem. Salem because she wants to destroy everything. •The Free ones: That do what they do not to serve a chessmaster but for their own goals. Ruby=>Saving the world. Cinder=>Power. Raven=>Protect her clan. Etc... And then the other characters either are allied with the "Free ones" or serve a "chessmaster" or are just irrelevant to the plot anyway. It sums up a good part of RWBY's story now, wouldn't you say ? And even with all that, I think I barely scratched the surface of this song's meaning. I'll come back if I find something else.
SPOILERS: After watching Vol.5 Ch.6 I think this song is actually about Raven, Qrow and Ozpin, from Raven's perspective. Think about it. "Death is never what it seems" This is referring to Oz's re-incarnation process "Did the things they thought you should" This is referring to how Qrow, from Raven's perspective, is blindly following Ozpin just because he seems like a good guy "Take the lives of those you need" This specific line is referring to how Ozpin seems to treat the huntsman/huntresses as tools for his fight against Salem "Born an angel heaven sent, falls from grace are never elegant" This is talking about Ravens apparent fall from grace when she went back to the tribe. It wasn't elegant b/c it fucked over the rest of her team and their relations. "You can't have my life, I'm not your sacrifice" This is raven's define toward the idea of being Ozpin's tool or "sacrifice". She won't "fall for [Ozpin]" "Truth will rise, revealed by mirrored eyes" Now allot people think this is referring to Ruby's silver eyes, but this is actually referring to the scene where Raven let's Yang in on Ozpin's shit. Yang and Raven look almost exactly alike, and yang's eyes turn the same color (red) as Raven's when she's angry. "Even with the lives you stole, still no closer to you goal" Now, this one is the real kicker. Who can you think of that has stolen many lives, and is still no closer to their goal? Maybe a certain immortal that hijacks the life of innocent young boys just so he can continue his eternal war against Salem? I don't think Salem is the only big bad of this story.
It was said that he was cursed to do that if I recall correctly and something about the recipient having to like minded or something as well. Plus, if its Raven talking then she has no leg to stand on considering she is a coward herself who ran away for years instead of proving herself better than Ozpin by doing anything to stop Salem and company.
Close your eyes now time for dreams Death is never what it seems Did the things you thought you should All the things they said were good All your faith in ancient ways Leaves you trapped inside a maze Take the lives of those you need Sow the death then reap the seed Reap the seed Born an angel, heaven sent Falls from grace are never elegant Stars will drop out of the sky The moon will sadly watch the roses die In vain Lost, no gain But you're not taking me You can't have my life I'm not your sacrifice You can try, but I'm free And you won't conquer me I won't crawl Most of all I won't fall for you. Show them gods and deities Blind and keep the people on their knees Pierce the sky, escape your fate The more you try the more you'll just breed hate And lies Truth will rise Revealed by mirrored eyes What if all the plans you made Were not worth the price they paid? Even with the lives you stole Still no closer to your Goal You can't have my life I'm not your sacrifice You can try, but I'm free And you won't conquer me I won't crawl Most of all I won't fall for you
Spoilers for volume 8! So I know that the hound being summer is a controversial theory but the first part of this song makes me wonder.... “Death is never what it seems” “Born an angel, Heaven sent. Falls from Grace are never elegant” Then they throw in: “the moon will sadly watch the roses die” It sounds like some heavy foreshadowing that summer has fallen from grace in her “death”.
Most comments here derm to think this song is about Pyrrha. But I interpreted it as a song about Cinder and how Salem may be using her. Granted this being about Pyrrha also makes sense
Slow Poison not really. highly doubt it. "all the things you thought you should. all the the things they said were good" cinder didn't do this because of any sort of good she did this so she can be powerful and feared. "death is never what it seems" cinder never died... like at all.
It makes sense for cinder I think this song is saying she betrayed Salem and hid Pyrrha and made a deal with Ozpin with the line "Death is never what it seems" and "You can have my life" saying she is not Salems pawn
CosmicDoesGaming well here's the problem. cinder enjoys killing people. she even said "beautiful" when civilians were dying. and she's power hungry. to me I think it's multiple prospectives rather than just one
V6C3 really puts this one into perspective ... "rwby has no story" "rwby has no foreshadowing" "the lyrics dont mean anything" yeah, right - this is amazing guys
Hell, they even foreshadowed Yang losing her arm, IN THE YELLOW TRAILER, the foreshadowing in this series is just everywhere and I love it... makes you think tho, what foreshadowing are we missing?
@@sukimity there was an open letter of a close associate of Montys some time after he quit/got fired in which a list of changes to the story was listed. It was about time vol 4 was airing i think. Anyway Montys script contained a scene where Blake fights with Adam afterwards Yang joins and they duke it out in a more or less even fight. Adam oneshoting Yang and her losing an arm was someone elses decision. Basicly Roosterteeth administration were enforcing a complete redesign of their whole company and removing most to everyone who was closly following Montys vision. SPOILER ALERT IF DIDNT SEE VOL 7. Their fight was already rendered and prepped to work on it but after changing script they said they will use it some other time. Remember vol 6 fight between Yang and Adam? That was what was waiting ready since the end of vol 3. If you wondered why it looked like Montys work again. You can find this letter easily if you google it so i leave myself out.
Holy fuck this song isn’t about Ruby, Pyrrah, Salem, or Cinder. It’s about fucking Ozpin from Raven. Just like it said in the latest episode we saw Raven. Ozpin is not what he seems... Maybe we’ll get more when we hear what she says.
This song is clearly talking about Ozpin after what we've learnt in Volume 5. The question is who is the voice singing. I think Raven would make a lot of sense.
RubénGallar I think it's fair to say Raven. She clearly has a distaste for Ozpin and highly disapproves of Qrow's decision to stand by him. She even went so far as to call Ruby a "lost cause" to Yang's face just because she is with them and obviously trusts them. Besides this song also came out in Vol. 2. Same Volume Raven first appeared in. Coincidence? I think not! Seriously though the word choice I feel lines up better with Raven too.
RubénGallar I dont think its about raven because it says "born an angel heaven sent falls from grace are never elegant". And as we now know Raven was never an "angel" and only enrolled to help the tribe and learn to kill huntsmen.
New meaning for the song unlocked: the first part is Salem singing to Ozpin and the second part is RUBY saying to Ozpin that she won't be a pawn in his game.
The one with mirror eyes who will reveal all the truth is probably Ruby and then it says that so many stolen lifes are not enough and that goal is not complete and thats Ozpin's goal and Salem is probably the one thats telling him that.
Uh there's an error with the lyrics here It's supposed to be "sow the death and reap the seed reap THE- SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED" tyvm Nah though, really, that's one of my absolutely favorite moments from any song in the overall RWBY soundtrack. it's fucking epic.
So coming back from vol 6, ep 3, this is VERY clearly about salem. Just if you haven't seen the episode, when you do, you'll see what I mean. The lyrics match the episode's scenes beat for beat.
I think it better fits Raven In Divide, Salem mocks Ozpin for sacrificing and tricking huntsmen for his war and him not getting closer to win. Here the pov character refuses to be Ozpin's sacrifice, which better fits Raven.
What would you call the music genre of this song? Spesifically the parts that aren't the main chorus. I.e ca 0:00 - 1:30, and 2:09 - 3:04 I really loved that, and I'd like to hear more of that type of music cx
It's been 6 years but I'll still answer, I believe this is progressive rock. Progressive rock is similar to alternative rock when you look at it instrumental-based, but what makes it 'progressive rock' is the lyrics. It tells an 'epic' story. You can check out Ok Goodnight, Casey Lee Williams is a member of the band and they mainly make progressive rock/metal songs.
SPOILERS for those who haven't watched V6C3: Damnnnnnn Sacrifice makes sense now after watching Volume 6 Chapter 3 about Salem's perspective on Oz! Especially when they talk about stars falling out of the sky (which happened when the moon was falling apart IN FRONT of Salem as well as the whole showing them gods and deities (which Salem and Ozpin did, originally Salem's plan for humanity) which led the people to their knees (WHICH THEY LITERALLY SHOWED)!
Why would Salem ask if the Price paid was worth it then, and why the lines about "Mirrored Eyes" and "moon watch roses die", those have absolutely nothin to do with Salem or Ozpin.
Price payed: Salem paid the price for bringing back Ozpin and then paid another price to gain the power she has now (jumping into the evil pond water) in order to get what she wants Mirrored eyes: she honestly thinks what she is doing is for the greater good and everyone else has mirrors eyes aka doesn’t understand her motives Roses die: most people seem to think that Summer Rose and past Roses have died helping Ozpin (also possibly foreshadowing Ruby’s death) she is probably referring to herself as the moon (good -> sun and evil -> moon)
OK your just wrong on the first part. The line is "what if all the plans you made were not worth the price they paid?" so it's questioning if the "price" was worth it when the "plan" still isn't any closer. it's a question about making OTHER people pay, not the singer. It makes literally 0 sense for Salem to say that about Ozma OR jumping into the Grimm pool, those are both prices SHE paid, not prices she made others pay. At best you could stretch it to mean when she caused humanity to be wiped out but that already happened and she was also punished so that wouldn't fit. "Truth will rise revealed by mirrored eyes" so the eyes are showing the truth, not denying it. And not only does it make no sense for her to compare herself to the moon about Roses, the song also says "the moon will sadly watch the roses die" why would Salem be sad if she was comparing her self to a go watching them die against her?
@@thevilemace6121 Or both. Seems like parts seem to fit both. And it would make since on why parts of the song don't exactly seem to...match up with just a single on of them.
@Elkanah Corcos It refers to when Ruby asked the genie "what is Ozpin hiding?". So she totally outed him. It's an easy line to miss. Probably wouldn't have noticed myself if not for MurderofBirds. There are other lines that refer to recent events. In the song When it Falls there's a line "Swallowed by the darkness. Soon the moon is bathed in black. The light of hope is taken and discontent is the contagion." The moon part is obvious . The God of darkness destroyed the moon with a black beam. The light of hope is taken and discontent is the contagion...they got mad at Ozpin most likely because he didn't tell him that they were fighting a pointless battle...or what now feels like it. Another line is something we all saw coming. "The blinding eyes. That burn a yellow flame. The embers that remain will light the fuse of condemnation." It refers to how what's left of Yang because she's still recovering...totally instigated what happened to Ozpin. There might be more, but these are the ones I remember. And tbh this message has already been long enough. So sorry for that.
@Elkanah Corcos Yeah that's a little wonky phrasing if you ask me. Either there's more to the silver eyes than we've seen, Rooster Teeth wanted to keep that part very vague, or maybe I'm wrong and it's not Ruby.
@Elkanah Corcos The interesting one out of the 3 is that there's more to the silver eyes. I mean because she hasn't really figured out how to use them yet. Nobody has really explained them to her besides Qrow, and he told her what he's heard. Hmm, you've given me much to think about.
After watching the finale of V9 and seeing Raven was with Summer for her mission...yeah no, this is Raven talking to Ozpin. Now I need to see Ruby and Yang finding out the truth of what happened to Summer from Raven if she returns in V10.
SPOLIERS***** I think that the "Death is never what is seems" Points to Ozpin, as he keeps on coming back. I really don't know whos worse, Ozpin or Salem. After all Salem just wants to not be immortal right? And Ozpin is hiding to many secrets. I think (My Opinon) that Ozpin is sacraficing people for his needs and might be worse than Salem.
Hrm, while I love the song, I'm a bit skeptical if the art fits here. Then again, this is one of the few songs that's unclear about who's it about. I can tell it's someone who's fallen from the "righteous path," possibly saw Summer die (in vain), and longs to see Ozpin "pay for his sins." Be chilling if it's an evil Pyrrha, as the pic showed, though I'm more leaning towards Raven, who might've seen Summer die and thus decide "enough is enough." Now she wants nothing more to do with Ozpin, and awaits the day when Ruby (her mirrored eyes) will reveal the truth about him, among other things. Something along these lines anyway. But still, love your work here, keep it up. :D
Ah, I see. Yeah, that would get rather unnerving, wouldn't it? Hopefully we find out in the next Volume or two about who the song is based on, but we'll see.
I wouldn't say evil Pyrrha, more like defeated. It's hard to tell but there's red right where she got shot in the chest. I think the first image looks more like Salem gloating over Pyrrha's fail.
With the events of Volume 5 and our first real look at Raven, I really think this is *her song*. It's hear dealing with Summer's death (Close your eyes now, time for dreams/death is never what it seems) before turning into a huge "take that" against Ozpin ("all your faith in ancient ways/leaves you trapped inside a maze" and "born an angel heaven sent/falls from grace are never elegant" seem like deadringers for him now that we know Ozpin's the Wizard).
Am I the only one who thinks this Song might be from Cinder towards Ozpin? In DIvide ( which is clearly Salem talking to Ozpin) its said " Sacrifice them for your needs", so here it would be Cinder saying that Ozpin's not ghetting her. Also in mutliple Songs it states that the People we assume to be the good Guys are lying and playing theire one Game. So the whole "What if all the Plans you made..." bit could easily be directed towards that.
Flynt I just want you to know I listen to this whole playlist like every day at work. Thank you for having this here. Also, that point right at the start when she says "Reap THEEEE ... seeed.." gives me the coldest of chills every time. MAN I love it when Casey puts real UMPH and POWER into her voice. It's frikkin *gorgeous*.
Well it could be sung by raven being pissed about summers death and also the countless people ozpin has gathered into his group over the many years I think divide is salems song and this is ravens song
With the new release of Volume 9 I will add to the theory pile and go out on a limb. What if this song is about Ruby's internal conflict with herself? The first half being sung mainly from Ruby's doubtful side, and the second half her being triumphant over her doubts at the end of this volume? Ik the song is old but I just found it( to many RWBY songs to listen to) and thought I'd throw a theory out there, though as someone stated this song can have multiple meanings.
Hear me out here. This song is actually Cinders theme. Pretty much saying I won't work for you also a bit of salem " Show them gods and deities blind and keep the people on there knees" a reference to where Salem faked being a god with her immortality and wanted Ozma to rule with her. This is part Cinder it's basically saying I'm not going to do your bidding and that she sides w salem and that even tho Oz set up lots of plans he still ain't any closer to winnin
Anyone else think that its salem singing to the gods i recently rewatched “the lost fable” and it really made me think about this “all your faith in ancient ways has left you trapped inside a maze” salem at this point probably does view dying as an “ancient way” she’s basically blaming the gods for this because they didn’t revive ozpin when he first died and now he’s in a never ending cycle “with all the lives you stole still no closer to your goal” here shes basically saying “look at how many people you’ve let die to teach me a lesson is it working are you winning?” So ya that’s just a thought
The moon will sadly watch the roses die in vain Is a clue that it's talking about summer and ruby dying to Salem's hands blindly. You can't have my life is ravens mindset, she sees ozpins goal as sacrificing people for answers on defeating Salem. Pierce the sky escape your fate is her talking about herself, and ozpin. They both tried to escape their fate but will only gain hate for doing so, she's pretty much telling oz to tell the truth like she will. Truth will be revealed by mirrored eyes is saying ruby will uncover the truth(which she does) Even with all the lives you stole still no closer to your goal(she's talking about ozpin sacrificing people for his goal and asking what if there is no defeating Salem, what if the gods don't come back, what if there is no winning and your sacrificing people for nothing.
I firmly believe this is Salem's song to Oz. Though I think Jeff said he didn't intend this as a song for any particular character (citation needed), but there are way too many things that foreshadow the later seasons and things pertaining to those two. I also really like the thought of the normally composed Salem being so emotional and passionate in her spite at his loyalty to the gods rather than her.
The amount of foreshadowing in this song is crazy! I mean it totally for-shadowed that Salem most likely killed Summer and it totally went out and told you that Ruby was going to uncover all of Ozpins secrets and that he acted like a god for a while there.
I've been low-key just discovering some of these songs these past few months and getting hyped about RWBY, only to face the disappointing reality that Volume 9 is not out yet. Over and over again.
After episode 3 of Volume 6 I'm starting to think this song is from both Oz and Salem's views on each other, if it was solely about Salem to Oz some part make no sense, Oz wasn't there when the moon shattered, Salem was. Kinda like they did with Red Like Roses 2, but with out two different voices, probably to not make it a obvious.
After the most recent episode with Raven, I can't help but feel this is written from her perspective. It would also make sense, given that season 2 is where we got this song, and that was where Raven really made her entrance as a character.
HOLY SHIT Volume 6... Everything from here 2:08 Even 2:30 Revealed by mirrored eyes. Ruby used the lamp, she asked Jinn the question, mirrored eyes, those who reflect the light of the world onto darkness
Well I didn't watch the V6C3, because I am not FIRST, but think about Fall of Beacon. I don't know why she is like that, but because of her Phyrra and many, many people dies. Or I am wrong. Am I? Have a nice day/night :-) . (pls no spoilers)
@@michabaszkiewicz5235 well, Salem always blamed ozpin for those things (not a spoiler). In her perspective she is The one doing the right thing. In the next episode they show you why she thinks that (not saying she is right tho. But it's definitely understandable. Which makes it harder to hate).
How? Her man died, and when he couldn't be brought back(well he could have if she went to Destruction first, but she had no way of knowing that first), she tried to kill the gods, then conquer the world, how is that not something to hate? Just because she used to be good and honestly loved Ozma doesn't change her actions.
OMG this is not about pyrrha. Remember that this song played and the end of volume 2 not 3. I think it simbolizes someone (possibly Ruby) talking to Salem or Cinder. In this song (and Red like roses part 2) it is said that summer died in vain. And ruby says she wont be her sacrifice (possible what salem wanted of Summer-a sacrifice for something more- but it didnt work). So Salem is possibly looking for more power (she probably needs the power of the maidens+silver eyes) for something (she wants ruby alive for some reason).
Alexis Baliari so what it was in volume 2? it could still be foreshadowing. "death is never what it seems" and we saw pyrrha "dying" and "all the things you thought you should all the things they said were good" implying that she was used or manipulated or fighting for something rather than the greater good. or at least that's what I think. the song could be for multiple characters. it doesn't necessarily have to be for one character.
"death is never what it seems" could mean Ruby's mom summer rose, but at the same time why would Ruby's response to Salem or Cinder be "the moon will finally watch the roses die"? maybe the death of the old ruby? It's a good theory on it being about ruby, and a lot of this song has references to ruby specifically.
I feel like this song contains two points of view. For example, one is saying "show them gods and dieties, blind and keep the people on their knees." While another is saying, "Truth will rise. Revealed by mirrored eyes."
Hey I don't know if anyone noticed but motif from this song played during the Raven and Cinder conversation, exclusively when Raven mentioned how Cinder turned herself into a monster for power. In my headcannon, this song here is to imply that Cinder will inevitably realize that Salem is using her, the same way she believed Ozpin was using everyone else. Salem is most likely the evil Stepmother, making me assume that Cinder's parents probably died, maybe in a fire? If they were murdered, this might be a reason Cinder lusts for power.
Honestly, I can see this as being about Raven and Ozpin, Cinder and Salem, or Summer and Salem. I think it could work well for any of them. Perhaps it was meant to be interpreted that way. Either way, an excellent song with some good imagery in the lyrics.
I feel this could be Raven. I mean if you closely read into the lyrics and what we've (spoilers) seen if volume four and have heard from Raven. She knew Beacon would fall, she knew Ozpin would fail. And she's trying to keep her people alive. And she seems worried about Salem getting the Relic. So maybe this is Raven talking to Salem? I mean she knew Summer. She seems to know everything that's going to happen
I originally thought that this song was between Salem and Ruby, but now I'm pretty sure its Raven talking to either Salem or Oz. Or to litterally anyone: she seems to have the same beef with every character so far, lol
I'm of the opinion this is a song of Raven talking to Yang (first verse, first part) and then switching to talking to Ozpin. Makes more sense to me given how volume 2 ended.
a lot of people seem to not like this song, but i think it's great--and even better now that volume 5 basically confirmed what i always suspected, that it's raven's song. she became one of my favorite characters this volume. she's a disaster of a human being, pride and fear and sharp edges guarding someone who is incredibly fragile at her core, and miles and kerry knocked the writing for her out of the park.
Its gonna be like Quan Chi in MKX. Taking the souls fallen in a senseless war and using them as weapons, possessing them. Honestly, if Salem does that to poor, poor Pyrrha, honestly, I might die a little. Its terrifying to think that's what this song means...she's stealing warriors for her own army and Cinder probably doesn't even know yet.
I actually think pyrrha might come back a villain. but not A-ok or a possessed villain but rather worse a villain by her own free will especially after what's she's been through. both her enemies AND her allies ruined her life to accomplish their own goals.
...what if all the Grimm are the souls of the angry dead, particularly those souls who died in agony, hate and despair? It would explain why they sense and seek out victims filled with negative emotions; through slaughter, they'd seek to make more of their kind...
Coleman Gailloreto That was my initial thought when we saw Salem, because she was so Grimm like and it cuts to her DIRECTLY from a shot of Summer's grave.
Personally, I believe this song is from Raven's perspective. If you listen to how she talks about Ozpin, who I believe she is singing too, she speaks of the fact that hes a manipulative liar, something that ties up perfectly with this song. the line "the moon will sadly watch the roses die" could be talking about Summer as the roses and well, the moon could be anyone who was close to her. Plus the fact that she says that " you cant have my life" or "I'm not your sacrifice" wouldn't make sense with what we know about Salem. We know that she cannot die and She couldn't be the sacrifice, since Raven is referring to the fact that she will not die in a hopeless attempt to stop Salem, and you know it wouldn't make sense for Salem to be saying that.
Cant wait until volume 16 when we have another 10 meanings for this song
For real lmao
At some point, you’ll have to admit that you are causing a lot of those meanings.
It’s definitely Raven talking to Ozpin about how Summer died and that she won’t be next.
Real
Are we not talking about how every Oz respawn costs another their choices.... he's like a possession. You can be angry with Salem, but truthfully maybe, she just wants accountability?
After Volume 6 chapter 3 this song takes on a new meaning
I know right? This song clearly talks about Salem.
The Salem babbyyyyy~
Thank you Volume 6 episode 3
That’s what I said
And it doesn’t help that I never really listened to the song until I saw that episode so this is the only meaning I see 😂
One thing I like about Salem as a villain is that she does not underestimate her opponents, or at least tries her damnedest not to.
Nice.
Joseph Malone: how much forshadowing?!
RWBY: YES
I still think it's the second one. The part when it says "You can't have my life. I'm not your sacrifice.".
And my favourite part? All those interpretations but the song contains something like CINDER'S motif :)
RWBY has a lot of incredible songs
That pic of Ruby...
If that's really what happened, I want to see a "flashback" to that fight where we see what Ruby actually did to freeze that Grimm and wound Cinder like she did. She looks like some kind of demon.
The Lyric Man It looks cool you gotta admit
ruby in her avatar state
Alison Vlasics hahah! nice!
Alison Vlasics avatar state? bro, that's witch hunter, no doubt about it.
which means ruby is right, weapons ARE people.
Yal Rathol
"Are we heroes keeping peace, or are we weapons pointed at the enemy so someone else can claim a victory?" from Time to Say Goodbye comes to mind when you put it like that.
"What if all the plans you made,
were not worth the price they paid?
Even with all the lives you stole,
still no closer to your goal........ "
Quinton Damiano I thought she was going to say soul
That is the perfect proof for why this is about Raven talking to Ozpin
Thought it sounded like Ruby was talking to Cinder or Oz talking too Salem??
Absolute Burning-Soul nah Raven betrayed Ozpin, those lyrics could be the reason why
David Huntsinger This sing may have came out before all the Raven stuff happen, but i do think this theroy is possible.
@@tapiocababy1701 the song came at the end of volume 2 and raven was in the end credits. I think theres strong evidence that its her song
@@amity4600 Oooo
@@amity4600 Now this song has a whole new meaning
Interesting indeed.
@@viktorstanev2752 I wonder If summer wasn't the first silver eyed to die in oz's cause?
Now we all got the answer. Summer was killed by Salem.
Yeah but who is this "moon" that will see summer and Ruby die
@@simpleman6633 The Gods had something to do with the moon? Maybe them?
I'm more worried about the whole watch the Roses die line than who the song is about "Roses" Rose(s) plural so does that mean summer isn't the first "Rose" to die for Ozpin or that she isn't the last....
Summer probably wasn't the first since apparently the Roses have prominent silver eyes. He was bound to have encountered some before.
Probably foreshadowing Ruby’s death
I'm pretty sure this is from Raven's perspective, and she thinks it is likely Ruby will die too (but it's a perspective, she doesn't really know for sure).
I hope that, if it is foreshadowing, it's foreshadowing Adam's death.

FlyntofRWBYNation
Just out of curiosity, what part of the series is this from?
Ricardo Ortiz-Joseph 3, but I don't believe it's in the show
I still think this song is from Raven's point of view towards Ozpin.
Maybe Raven loved her team more than initially thought.
i mean that would make sense now that we know her semblance. She has a portal to both Tai and Qrow, so I'm sure she had a portal to Summer.
And now we know she's the spring maiden.
finally a smart person
Unfortunately confirmed that this is Cinder's song, but it also fits Raven well.
at 2:40 if you have the perfect volume and are wearing headphones and it's not too loud around you, you can hear your heart beating during this very errie drop in mood...and its pretty amazing. especially if you're actually watching the images on the screen
Man. After V8 and the new Cinder song.
They do sound scary similar.
YES! (Edit: I think I should elaborate...)
Thing is, I used to think Sacrifice was Raven singing to Ozpin.
YES! I'm not the only one who thought that
@@Dreamydr Let's hope that they don't fuck out Cinder more then they have already done
@@nuvaboy
This passage from 2:42 to the word "Goal".
- Part 2 lol -
Honestly, this song is genius.
Even The heroes to Ironwood with that "Pierce the sky, escape your fate."
In the end, the main message of the song is really about all those characters that feel like they are just being used by the "chessmasters" of the series.(Ozpin ; Salem ; even Ironwood more recently...)
Yes, In RWBY, there are two types of characters :
•The Chessmasters: Driven by keeping the world under their control for whatever reasons they have.
Ozpin and Ironwood because they fear Salem.
Salem because she wants to destroy everything.
•The Free ones: That do what they do not to serve a chessmaster but for their own goals.
Ruby=>Saving the world.
Cinder=>Power.
Raven=>Protect her clan.
This song has multiple meanings, raven to Ozpin, Salem to Ozpin, etc. this song isn’t just pinned on one meaning kinda like die
Well Die has a pretty obvious meaning. It's in the title.
SPOILERS:
After watching Vol.5 Ch.6 I think this song is actually about Raven, Qrow and Ozpin, from Raven's perspective. Think about it.
"Death is never what it seems"
This is referring to Oz's re-incarnation process
"Did the things they thought you should"
This is referring to how Qrow, from Raven's perspective, is blindly following Ozpin just because he seems like a good guy
"Take the lives of those you need"
This specific line is referring to how Ozpin seems to treat the huntsman/huntresses as tools for his fight against Salem
"Born an angel heaven sent, falls from grace are never elegant"
This is talking about Ravens apparent fall from grace when she went back to the tribe. It wasn't elegant b/c it fucked over the rest of her team and their relations.
"You can't have my life, I'm not your sacrifice"
This is raven's define toward the idea of being Ozpin's tool or "sacrifice". She won't "fall for [Ozpin]"
"Truth will rise, revealed by mirrored eyes"
Now allot people think this is referring to Ruby's silver eyes, but this is actually referring to the scene where Raven let's Yang in on Ozpin's shit. Yang and Raven look almost exactly alike, and yang's eyes turn the same color (red) as Raven's when she's angry.
"Even with the lives you stole, still no closer to you goal"
Now, this one is the real kicker. Who can you think of that has stolen many lives, and is still no closer to their goal? Maybe a certain immortal that hijacks the life of innocent young boys just so he can continue his eternal war against Salem?
I don't think Salem is the only big bad of this story.
You make a good point though if thinking like that I'd say ozpin is the lesser of two evils
It would be but it wouldn’t play on V5 EP 7 close to the end
My only issue with your statement is oz. He isnt hijacking them. He is cursed, he is forced by the gods to reincarnate.
Well you have forever swayed me into thinking this is ravens song
Close your eyes now time for dreams
Death is never what it seems
Did the things you thought you should
All the things they said were good
All your faith in ancient ways
Leaves you trapped inside a maze
Take the lives of those you need
Sow the death then reap the seed
Reap the seed
Born an angel, heaven sent
Falls from grace are never elegant
Stars will drop out of the sky
The moon will sadly watch the roses die
In vain
Lost, no gain
But you're not taking me
You can't have my life
I'm not your sacrifice
You can try, but I'm free
And you won't conquer me
I won't crawl
Most of all
I won't fall for you.
Show them gods and deities
Blind and keep the people on their knees
Pierce the sky, escape your fate
The more you try the more you'll just breed hate
And lies
Truth will rise
Revealed by mirrored eyes
What if all the plans you made
Were not worth the price they paid?
Even with the lives you stole
Still no closer to your
Goal
You can't have my life
I'm not your sacrifice
You can try, but I'm free
And you won't conquer me
I won't crawl
Most of all
I won't fall for you
Spoilers for volume 8!
So I know that the hound being summer is a controversial theory but the first part of this song makes me wonder....
“Death is never what it seems”
“Born an angel, Heaven sent. Falls from Grace are never elegant”
Then they throw in: “the moon will sadly watch the roses die”
It sounds like some heavy foreshadowing that summer has fallen from grace in her “death”.
Damn, that’s some _Revenge of the Sith_ type stuff...
not to mention the " Revealed by Mirrored Eyes" part
Most comments here derm to think this song is about Pyrrha. But I interpreted it as a song about Cinder and how Salem may be using her. Granted this being about Pyrrha also makes sense
it's cinder
It's Cinder.Everything in V4 points to it.
Everyone keeps arguing about whether the song is about Cinder or Pyrrha. I'm honestly leaning more toward it being about Summer or Raven.

RubénGallar yeah I think so too, I guess And would like it to be about summer's death
RubénGallar yeah its raven talking to summer for a section in the beginning but then she's talking to ozpin
RubénGallar
I dont think its about raven because it says "born an angel heaven sent falls from grace are never elegant". And as we now know Raven was never an "angel" and only enrolled to help the tribe and learn to kill huntsmen.
Angel 60312 The song is about Raven in the sense that she's the one singing. And I think she's talking about Ozpin in those lines.

Lu-Bun and their story was one of the first stories they wrote
I just watched it and rushed here to listen again XD
Why would Salem ask if the Price paid was worth it then, and why the lines about "Mirrored Eyes" and "moon watch roses die", those have absolutely nothin to do with Salem or Ozpin.
Price payed: Salem paid the price for bringing back Ozpin and then paid another price to gain the power she has now (jumping into the evil pond water) in order to get what she wants
Mirrored eyes: she honestly thinks what she is doing is for the greater good and everyone else has mirrors eyes aka doesn’t understand her motives
Roses die: most people seem to think that Summer Rose and past Roses have died helping Ozpin (also possibly foreshadowing Ruby’s death) she is probably referring to herself as the moon (good -> sun and evil -> moon)
This song makes me sad, and yet it makes me WANT TO KICK ASS GOD DAMN IT MUSIC WHY YOU DO THIS TO ME!?

“Show then gods and deities blind and keep the people on their knees.” How salem and Oz had become gods to the people of remanent
"revealed by mirrored eyes" haha it sure was
@Elkanah Circus I don't want to spoil anything for you so what was the last thing you saw?
@Elkanah Corcos Clear mirrors show ypur reflection with a slight silver tint.

I could not for the life of me find art that fit with the song. I got so frustrated that I just settled for those two images.
Ah, I see. Yeah, that would get rather unnerving, wouldn't it? Hopefully we find out in the next Volume or two about who the song is based on, but we'll see.
I must say tho great work on the rest of the art works you have posted with the lyrics!
I wouldn't say evil Pyrrha, more like defeated. It's hard to tell but there's red right where she got shot in the chest. I think the first image looks more like Salem gloating over Pyrrha's fail.
I always thought about Salem teasing Ozpin or possibly Summer and Salem
With the events of Volume 5 and our first real look at Raven, I really think this is *her song*. It's hear dealing with Summer's death (Close your eyes now, time for dreams/death is never what it seems) before turning into a huge "take that" against Ozpin ("all your faith in ancient ways/leaves you trapped inside a maze" and "born an angel heaven sent/falls from grace are never elegant" seem like deadringers for him now that we know Ozpin's the Wizard).
Ya, definitely her song
Playing RWBY Grimm Eclipse while the instrumental version of this song plays....
.....always gets me pumped up!
idk why but...
this song is FLIPPING CATCHY BRO
The intro before the change is so dark and beautiful I wish they kept that vibe through the whole song
Tip top Animations why would Raven think Qrow is using her as or for any kind of sacrifice?
Have you not seen episode 12?
Currently Gaming fair point.
NO ITS NOT ITS FROM RAVEN TO OZPIN IT SAYS U ARE NOT TAKING ME SHE IS TRYING TO RUN IDIOT CINDER ISNT RUNNING THOGUH ONLY RAVEN IS RUNNING
Dude chill, they understand it now.
This song has to be sung by Salem because she says," all the lives that you stole, still no closer to your goal." It has to be about Ozpin.
It’s about candice
@@CODELIRIOUS-sy8xz who's candice?
Its actually about both Salem and Ozma
Well it could be sung by raven being pissed about summers death and also the countless people ozpin has gathered into his group over the many years I think divide is salems song and this is ravens song
It’s probably cinders song twards Ruby and Salem mainly Salem
1:46 I love that Rubes is using Witch Hunter from Soul Eater here
Dam that pic of Ruby O_O it would be so cool if she could get in some kind of avatar state with her silver eyes
G4ud1 w8s4RWBY that's literally what happened at the end of volume 3
Truth will be revealed by mirrored eyes is saying ruby will uncover the truth(which she does)
Even with all the lives you stole still no closer to your goal(she's talking about ozpin sacrificing people for his goal and asking what if there is no defeating Salem, what if the gods don't come back, what if there is no winning and your sacrificing people for nothing.
This song describes what Salem has gone through
The amount of foreshadowing in this song is crazy! I mean it totally for-shadowed that Salem most likely killed Summer and it totally went out and told you that Ruby was going to uncover all of Ozpins secrets and that he acted like a god for a while there.
I still love this song. Definitely one of my favorite from this anime.
Now this song is a huge one foreshadowing
Remember when some of us thought this song may be about/sung from Torchwick's POV? Good times... miss that character, he was a great one
I've been low-key just discovering some of these songs these past few months and getting hyped about RWBY, only to face the disappointing reality that Volume 9 is not out yet. Over and over again.
After episode 3 of Volume 6 I'm starting to think this song is from both Oz and Salem's views on each other,
if it was solely about Salem to Oz some part make no sense, Oz wasn't there when the moon shattered, Salem was. Kinda like they did with Red Like Roses 2, but with out two different voices, probably to not make it a obvious.
I watch you videos all the time and finally decided "you know what? im subbing! this guy is cool!"
i forgot how much this was a banger.
After the most recent episode with Raven, I can't help but feel this is written from her perspective. It would also make sense, given that season 2 is where we got this song, and that was where Raven really made her entrance as a character.
I like to think this song is about the villians in RWBY. Though more specifically about Cinder.
Noodle Nerd thought it was more on Salem since she knows about the silver eyes and the mirrored eyes (Qrow and Raven) etc.
I believe its about Raven and Ozpin.
HOLY SHIT Volume 6... Everything from here 2:08
Even 2:30 Revealed by mirrored eyes. Ruby used the lamp, she asked Jinn the question, mirrored eyes, those who reflect the light of the world onto darkness
It's getting really difficult to hate Salem...
@@manuerre.5613 Understood. (Ahh? Get it? ;-P)
How? Her man died, and when he couldn't be brought back(well he could have if she went to Destruction first, but she had no way of knowing that first), she tried to kill the gods, then conquer the world, how is that not something to hate? Just because she used to be good and honestly loved Ozma doesn't change her actions.
@@nahte123456 yeah her actions are not justifiable in any way. But this song kinda makes you sympathize with her (assuming that is her song tho)
MikalynTonry ruby/summer makes more sense even though I'm not a fan of summer coming back.
I feel like this song contains two points of view. For example, one is saying "show them gods and dieties, blind and keep the people on their knees." While another is saying, "Truth will rise. Revealed by mirrored eyes."
songs tells things about the future
Hey I don't know if anyone noticed but motif from this song played during the Raven and Cinder conversation, exclusively when Raven mentioned how Cinder turned herself into a monster for power. In my headcannon, this song here is to imply that Cinder will inevitably realize that Salem is using her, the same way she believed Ozpin was using everyone else. Salem is most likely the evil Stepmother, making me assume that Cinder's parents probably died, maybe in a fire? If they were murdered, this might be a reason Cinder lusts for power.
I'd love to see From Shadowns on here! Keep making vids brah these are awesome!
"Born an angel, heaven sent. Falls from grace are newvr elegant."
I thought this meant for Salem since she was a princess(?) And now look at her.
Personally, I think where the song goes soft near the end, near 3:03, I that's a another switch from Ruby to Salem, and she's saying that to Ozpin.
Honestly, I can see this as being about Raven and Ozpin, Cinder and Salem, or Summer and Salem. I think it could work well for any of them. Perhaps it was meant to be interpreted that way. Either way, an excellent song with some good imagery in the lyrics.
Always, you make the best works out there. Perfect song, perfect art. Keep it up!
Plot twist: Ruby is going to die, but Cinder will kill Salem in the end.
It's lit fam, love the style and art. Fits with the direction the shows going.
She seems to know everything that's going to happen
this song is about Cinder
I originally thought that this song was between Salem and Ruby, but now I'm pretty sure its Raven talking to either Salem or Oz. Or to litterally anyone: she seems to have the same beef with every character so far, lol
Those are both AWESOME fanarts
Very Evanescence esk
i like the bassline, it reminds me of Slither by Velvet Revolver but then the main solo to this song is much different to the solo in slither
the art in this is so awesome! thx for sharing the links
ALL THIS TIME WEVE BEEN SINGING THIS AND NEVER NOTICED RUBY WAS GONNA REVEAL THE TRUTH? “Revealed by Mirror Eyes” well BLOW ME DOWN
I'm of the opinion this is a song of Raven talking to Yang (first verse, first part) and then switching to talking to Ozpin. Makes more sense to me given how volume 2 ended.
This sounds incredibly like a zombies song from call of duty
Of all the possible interperetations for this song, I think Raven -> Ozpin makes most sense
does ruby have genie hunter!?
lol, that's what I saw too😂
Caleb Carr Honestly SOUL EATER
Caleb Carr Actually, I think it looks more like the Witch Hunter.
Yeah, it's probably Witch Hunter. Or a Silver version, at least. Genie Hunter is more axe-shaped and greenish.
Maiden hunter, Cinder's in the foreground, looking more shook than any kishin
a lot of people seem to not like this song, but i think it's great--and even better now that volume 5 basically confirmed what i always suspected, that it's raven's song. she became one of my favorite characters this volume. she's a disaster of a human being, pride and fear and sharp edges guarding someone who is incredibly fragile at her core, and miles and kerry knocked the writing for her out of the park.
Coleman Gailloreto like I said I prefer a villain by her own free will.
V6C3 SPOILERS BELOW
Does anyone else get the feeling that this might actually be about Salem?
oh my gosh!! i really like the pictures!! especially the last one!!! ahhh!!! SO COOL!!
3:04 is this part talking about Salem or ozma because it could be either.
Perhaps both of them.
This is even better now that Volume 6 is out and the events happening so far
Volume 6. Show the gods and deities. Blind and keep the people on their knees.
