To add to the feels: the single "Life Goes On", which is in Korean, debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 :) Unlike Dynamite, it got almost no radio play so the fact it topped the chart was a big deal.

it has been stated many times that big hit was explicitly searching for an english song. i am sure they realized there is (currently!) no way to get radio play and a grammy while singing in korean so they wanted to try it. and they knew what they were doing. i'm guessing they will continue to release 1-2 english radio-friendly songs per year but also continue to do their own thing with korean albums.

I think they calculated they just didn't plan it to happen the way it did....they were already interested in getting into the American market and were working towards it...I think they were already even looking for English songs...but they were planning to go on tour and when that got cancelled they made new plans and put out an English single...then as it looked like this was going to be a long time they planned a new album. BE was not an album that was precalculated so has no elements of the universe story in it etc but it was songs that BTS were working on and that they wrote/produced etc. Then when Dynamite did so well they also added it to BE album even though it was also not in their original plan for the album....part of their strength is in their ability to adapt to change and they did really well and the company did really well at adapting to all the changes they needed to.

you need to understand bighit was very small. they didn't even have a trainee system when they signed namjoon or a place for him to live. they had to throw everything together just as best they could, with not much money. they got a $4m investment around 2010 but 4m isn't a lot when you have a bunch of kids to feed and give a living space and hire people to work with and you need studio time and eventually you need to make an album and film an mv etc. plus you have to pay your bills. so they had very little money. (add in, for example, ceo bang pd ultimately ended up paying for suga's university tuition too). so they were super broke in the long run and had financial time constraints. so yeah everything was a little haphazard early on.
and their ceo takes raw talent and potential very seriously, so he kind of took the hard route for himself over all but... it really paid off.

To be honest, one of the most interesting things about bts, aside from the ARG-like fan engagement (the puzzles, literary references, and fan-guided development of the storyline from the BU, as one example), is their relationship with each other, which ties in with the underdog story for me cause they had to help each other out to survive/succeed.
The younger members, JK and V especially, learned producing and songwriting with help from Suga and RM, who do most for the group. Jin, who joined in without any singing or dancing experience, learned dancing to a large degree from J-Hope and eventually found his sound in ballads - a sound that bts hasn't really done before. Jimin comforting the other members on and off stage whenever they break down. They all have solo work, some have solo albums, and they have an immense amount of respect for each other and each other's differences. It just kind of gives me hope for humanity, you know

Honestly the formation of BTS could be considered a miracle. The way they came together is as you said, happenstance. But if you look at the other group Big Hit put together called TXT, the story is THE SAME!! I think the scouts at Big Hit just have the knack for finding the right people because they keep their ears to the ground. and the environment inside Big Hit is something special that allows for these spectacular groups to be created and to thrive.

It's one of the most if not the most liked songs also, and has the 2 biggest number of unique listeners (listeners per account). Is also one of the most streamed songs in Melon's history. It’s actually pretty typical of a Korean entertainment agency to cast people based on appearance or one singular talent because of the trainee system. Aspiring stars are essentially put into these boot camps to hone their skills and teach them new ones. Because of how grueling the process is, only the most determined and hardworking are going to stick around until they debut.

You could also watch some of the UA-cam videos about how physically exhausting their concerts have been. I don’t think any group ever has worked harder in concerts, and in practices, to be as perfect as possible for their Army. Certainly not Western groups/artists. This review shows the miracle of their rise, and many of the reasons for it, but, I think it misses the hard work and the (literal) blood, sweat and tears that went into their success. Also, because of the diversity of the members, they aren’t the cookie cutter look of members of other k-pop groups. Another huge element in their success is their ability to work out differences and love and genuinely care for each other.

But the members were different. it consisted of RM, Suga, J-Hope, i11evn, HunChul, Kidoh, and Supreme Boi,. When Big Hit decided to change the group from a hip hop group the an idol group the only ones who stayed were RM, SUGA AND J-HOPE, Supreme Boi stayed at Big Hit as a producer and songwriter. While I think this introduction is great, I think you should really consider watching “The Rise of Bangtan” series! It gives you better insight on the industry as well as getting a more detailed look on bts’ growth! There is some information I would also like to clarify because idk if he did great explaining- This guy kinda speaks like BTS’ past eras weren’t great in comparison to after I Need U came out, I can assure that bts has been releasing great music since the beginning that at some point in time is great to check out! Also, BTS did not have any plans here for America and there growth was honestly a lot more gradual than this video is portraying. 1) BTS’ numbers, though low, still were enough to keep the group going. Lots and lots of groups don’t even make it to 100 days- so they were experiencing moderate success, which was enough to keep going. 2) It’s not the person who described the journey, it’s just it’s kinda hard to show everything they went through in such a little amount of time (they did not just blow up one day). That’s why I really recommend that series for better insight. Lots of details were left out, so there’s still more to the story 😉

But despite their tough beginning Big Hit hung on to BTS, and continued to invest in them, because they were confident in their potential. I loved your reaction. Don’t ever feel bad that you are new to ARMY - we always say that people find BTS when they are supposed to. I am a 60 year old mum from Australia who came across their pre debut blogs purely by chance and have never looked back. They got me through some dark times and it was their strength to push through their own hardships that gave me the strength to face my own. I honestly feel that I may not even be here now if I had not found those very first blogs. I didn’t know Korean, but I could feel their sincerity even then. I have gone on to travel to Korea on more than one occasion, loving the place, culture and people. I even got the courage to go to University at the age of 58 to start a bachelor degree in languages majoring in Korean. I have never looked back - the person I was when I found BTS is still a part of me, a part that has made me who I am today. Just as BTS always thanks ARMY for their support, I will forever thank BTS for their support and love. They are remarkable, talented and extremely humble young men who have been through a lot to get to where they are - a group of “brothers” who decided to share with the world their love of music. How can we not love that. 💜💜🇦🇺

It's pretty common for kpop groups to release Japanese versions of albums and singles. South Korea actually has a pretty small music market so most companies want their groups to have a more international appeal because of the increase in sales. Japan has the 2nd largest music market in the world (behind the United States) so just from a pure business standpoint, it makes a lot of sense to market groups directly to Japan.

I got into BTS in 2020 when the reaction channels i watch the most reacted to Dynamite MV.
Then I got curious. I had heard of them but had not paid attention to their music, since I didn't listen KPOP at the time and well, I was bored. I learned their names in 2 days by watching introduction videos, their interviews etc. Then started to watch some compilations and my bias was Suga. But now my bias is kookie and my bias wreckers are Jimin, Suga and Tae.
I follow their solo stuff, their twitter, their youtube channel, i have watched all of their music videos and listened all the albums, have recently watched their new performances, all the run episodes that are out now, introduced BTS to my friends and made them an army, i talk to other armys on internet and see what different opinions they have, have made tons of friends through them.
And it's only been like what, 6 months since Dynamite came out? It's crazy.

The reason why K-pop is so often molded to appeal to an international audience is because the music market in South Korea is incredibly small given that that country itself is so small. Couple that with the fact that literally DOZENS of groups and artists debut under various labels every year, and it becomes extremely difficult for any artist to find their footing and establish themselves. As a result, they incorporate English into their songs, title those songs in English so that they can be easily found by international audiences, and promote their music in different countries, sometimes creating music in the language of the country they promote in. For example, many artists other than BTS promote in Japan with either original Japanese music or Japanese versions of the music they release in SK to appeal to that market and gain more musical success-this is smart given the fact that Japan has the 2nd largest music market in the world. The title of largest music market in the world belongs to the United States which explains why artists and labels here do not feel that need to promote music globally the way K-pop artists do.
If stuff like this in relation to BTS interests you, another BTS documentary exists here on UA-cam called “The Rise of Bangtan”. It’s an extremely professional-looking docuseries created by a very talented group of ARMYs, and what I love about it is that in addition to solely using clips of BTS’ own words from their past vlogs and interviews to tell the narrative of their rise to fame since before they debuted, it also gives great context of how the K-pop industry came to be, the nature of the current K-pop industry is, and why BTS’ way of conduct is redefining it. It’s an ongoing series with 12 episodes, each clocking in at around 30 minutes. I recommend this docuseries to every reactor who is trying to get into BTS because in order to really connect with them, I believe it’s so important that you see and relive some of the moments that came together to mold them into the artists we all enjoy today. As an ARMY since 2014, I remember witnessing many of those moments in real time and can vividly remember how choked-up and/or excited I got for every milestone they achieved. That being said, I can say with full confidence that this docuseries has successfully brought back the nostalgia and emotionality behind those defining moments in BTS’ career in how the narrative was told; the storytelling was so effective, I cried at clips shown that I’ve already seen hundreds of times. If you’re interested in watching, here’s the link to the first episode: ua-cam.com/video/QxAmkAwIEeY/v-deo.html

While of course science and math and other content areas are important for knowledge, it's actually the humanities-literature, musi, arts, etc-and us pursuing our passions that make us human. 7:33 Long story short: they didn't lie, the concept of the group changed. After RM joined, two other rappers Iron and Supreme Boi (people on RM's underground hip hop crew) joined the project, then the Hit It rap competition happened and Suga and somebody named i11evn got scouted. They released some unofficial tracks and were supposed to debut together in 2011, then something happened, the concept of the group changed from a hip hop group full of rappers to a kinda hybrid group, so most of the guys left and only RM and Suga decided to stay, thats when the 2nd Hit it auditions happened and the BTS members we have today were scouted.

PS. This year we got them the 5th BBMA by the way :) (in a row)
And apart of collabs left and right, videogames and stuff, they have their own running show since 2015 since the industry there won't invite them to their shows: it was only 10 ep at first, but they resumed in 2016-2017? and there are almost 150 episodes by now: they have to complete missions (from playing a game, guessing tracks, learn how to play tennis, and any thing you can imagine), and it's hilarious and sweet. The fanbase has been built through their good music and lyrics sure, but mostly because of them, they go online (now when they can), they talk about their lives, they are like a friend you have overseas (?) and you get to know them, their weaknesses too, and as army, you cannot help but want to protect them (as you would protect a child, a friend or a family member).
PS. It would be awesome for youtube to have timed comments as in soundcloud xD sorry for the spam

PD Bang was much more visionary the other big 3 Kpop companies. He saw the boys had more talent than they realised..

  • @cynthiaperez2232
    @cynthiaperez2232 3 роки тому

Bang Si-Hyuk is just a genius. He gave talks (you can find them on YT) of the process he went through. Big Hit was near bankruptcy and he decided to restructure the company. He wanted a group of real boys who told their real truth and not the polished idols that were popular at the time. And he decided to aim the company not on making money, but on pleasing the fans. When BTS were not invited on talk shows or variety shows, he created their own shows on Vlive and UA-cam. Then he 'arranged' training for the boys in LA, from JK's dance camp to American Hustle Life. (Although it has its downside, the group did make connections with American hiphop artists.). He started having staff film them backstage (because they were so hilarious) and put those on YT, as well. Then did package programs: Winter package, Summer Package, etc that coincided with photo shoots, but were more 'real life' behind-the-scenes stuff. Then the free game BTS World, containing free music. Then he saw an untapped revenue stream and created his own platform, Weverse, in direct competition with Vlive, where fans could chat with artists, purchase merchatndise, watch videos only found on that platform (concerts and movies). He also redesigned the concert venues so that they included popup stores selling BTS merch. By pairing free content with paid content, he keeps fans coming back.
And let's not mention that he gave the members the freedom to find their own direction: JK began to do film editing (see Golden Closet Films), Taehyung followed his passion for photography and even directed his own MV. JHope did little dance demos (Hope on the Street). Jin loves food and started a segment called Eat Jin, where he talked about the food while he ate on camera (Ever seen someone eat hot dogs with chopsticks?). They each had their own projects and downloaded free songs on Soundcloud. But, I think more important than that, they learned how things worked. They worked with the Big Hit staff to learn record production, video production, you name it. Unlike most Kpop artists, they were allowed to develop beyond what the company had expected or foreseen. During the pandemic, they designed and produced the album BE with minimal input from the company.

Jimin's martial arts and how he uses it w/ performances; Jin and JK also hold belt ranks in martial arts, just that Jimin's experience is in multiple practices), with clips teasing their concerts/solo performances (you can see hints of how much they've developed as performers) + introduces you to some of their other projects, including their Bon Voyage reality series and Run BTS (where they're challenged with games/go on missions)... they're hilariously entertaining/wholesome fun:)

such a great underdog story... and BTS have continued to accomplish so much more since this video was released - including their recent sweep of all the 2021 Billboard Awards categories they were nominated for (adding a 5th in a row Top Social Artist award), an historical Grammy nom, etc. and to think that when they had broken a UA-cam record with 6M views of "Blood, Sweat and Tears", as mentioned in the video, to breaking that record w/ "Dynamite"... and again breaking that record when they dropped "Butter"... but these are far from the records they've broken (like 4 Billboard #1 songs within a year's time). these guys aren't slackers - never were - and deserve all the accolades they receive. this intro, btw, is just a start tho. there are other remarkable BTS backstory documentaries that have been created, including "Break the Silence: The Movie" (also recently won the MTV Best Music Documentary Award), and episodes of their challenging journey (to say the least!) via "American Hustle" may be found on UA-cam as well. as a side note, It's one thing watching docus, but it's the guys' personalities that also make for fun viewing. Glad you're doing the deep dive (coming from someone who began learning about them myself during their Dynamite era, late 2020)... it's pretty awesome, inspiring stuff! :)

I’ve watched this documentary several times and love to see people’s reactions when they finally learn about the boy’s story... the creator did a good job with this documentary. Thank you for your authentic reaction and awesome comments. A 52 year old army here....looking forward to more reactions about BTS. God bless 💜

Remember, like the Beatles it just came together. The right company, RM the brilliant right leader and the amazing individual members who kept the same focus.

Love this video, thank you for giving them a chance, you won't regret it. You really should check out more of their songs, their whole discography is basically a documentary itself about their journey (lyric-wise).
