Hey this video was very validating. I started making mynba content a few months ago and have noticed these things too. as good as the mode looks on the surface, you're right about it being an inch deep. I am really trying to achieve a deep and fulfilling franchise experience with my series and i find myself having to add my own systems/use systems other people made just to spice things up (i.e. Attention to detail rosters, random event generator, detailed fictional draft classes) etc. And on top of that, I constantly have to monitor all 31 other teams in the league to make sure the cpu is managing them correctly (i.e. signing all the second round picks, manually trading players, making sure there is proper competition for stars in FA). not to mention the bugs/poorly designed things that I have to work around (salary cap doesn't increase, scouts give 2 conflicting reports, head coaches disappear, finals mvp gets switched). It gets exhausting, to the point where even if I do craft a satisfying experience, it feels hollow because I had to play God rather than simply being a GM of a team, which takes away the element of challenge and mastery that video games should always have. I think the eras are cool but not enough. if they improved the foundations of their franchise mode, the eras would benefit. The stale progression system was something I didn't think about until watching this. Now I think I understand the root of why I struggle to get satisfaction from this mode. I don't feel like I'm working to improve my team; that happens on its own, completely separate from my effort. I'm only working to prevent the game from ruining itself. Anyway, it would mean a lot if you could check out my channel; hopefully my content might give you some hope that there are some dedicated and detail-oriented MyNBA creators out there. A lot of sports games that doesn’t have good franchise modes with good customization options are going to lose mind share to College Football 25 this year.
Eras's is great but i have seen no many glitches with eras. I wish they had the rights to all the players and maybe some more diversity and different gamemodes in mynba
To be fair 2k17 fixed all the bugs from 16 and added some QoL improvements and 2k18 had the entire MyCareer style MyGM storyline so its more appropriate to say since 2k18 than 2k16. Although I take your point. Everything since 2k18 has been removing features, replacing features with worse versions, leaving features to atrophy because the code wasn't tuned for the new game. And when they have added features it's been mostly underwhelming. Btw completely agree on MyEras. Finally someone else with a brain who ses it for what is. "The same MyNBA with less accurate rosters." Perfect description.
a player could be averaging 25 ppg as a 80 overall but will ahve no progression but may even ahve degression. Id like some more realism but snadbox at the same time. I wish i could also choose players jerseys to retire for my franchise.
MyNBA lacks and issues. Lacks: 1. Free agent signing and player trade conversations - They had this on previous 2ks i donnt know why they took it off while it adds a realism to the simulation. 2. Cut Scenes of Championship Parade, Draft Day, and Trade and Draft Acquisitions - FIFA has this dope cut scenes with their manager mode (Playersignings and Trades) 3. Draft Combines - Only the scouting reports and draft combine stats are the basis now when drafting players. Back then 2k has this combine or workout invites to the players that are joining the draft so we can feel their playstyle idk again why did they remove this. Should be added again and put other playable draft combine drills/ 4. Player Morale Impact - During 2k14 and 15 we can pitch players to sign and sometimes disgruntled players that are planning to leave for free agency only needs to be talked to so ttheir morale will go up again. Idk again why tf did they remove this. This helps balancing the simulation of creating a super team. Issues 1. Too many players are retiring even if they are young. 2. Challenge for a call sometimes are buggy you dont see the insant replay even if you dont push any button it goes fast forward to the result. 3. Courts in Eras cant be replaced I know tthis has to do something with the legal rights of jerseys and courts. 4. Injured Player recovers too fast even though I have adjusted the settings. (e.g Joel Embiid in one of my saves got hurt 1st month of tthe season and is ruled out for the season after only three months he has recovered this injury lol My Wishlist 1. Add FIBA Games in the MyNBA current era i know it also has something to do with legal rights with FIBA but like EA on FIFA they have rights on different leagues and even world cup. As the season progress a football player is pulled out from the team for their national team duties. I hope they add this to 2k or if not EA might capitalize this from its Association Mode. Since they are known from having multiple rights of sports platform. 2. Be a GM/Coach of a National Team like Fifa other countries can offer you a international Job. 3. Bring Back everything thatt I mentioned on tthe Lacks List.
Mann its so hard to find videos of honest criticisms about MyNBA, just because its the best franchise in sports dont mean its above improvements. They have removed more than they have added. After playing the 25 madden beta i am honestly convinced this is the year madden franchise is maybe not "better" but definitely more fun to play. Like you said, franchise mode streamers barely exist because the mode is lacking innovation and depth. You could win multiple rings and its not acknowledged. I think a lot of what is in mycareer could help the mode, like the goat tracker, the record breaking celebrations, the radio/podcast shows. Add drills for the scouting, add rpg elements back, add in personality for players and dynamic storylines. Besides shooting, gameplay is pretty good. The game has all the potential to be great and they waste it. Drafts not even fun to me because the players feel generic, like fillers, broadcast wont speak about them in dynamic ways. Mode has become so bland. I remember in like 2k6 players would come to your office and have complaints or concerns. Even adding in new ways to play, sometimes i wanna play a hybrid game of watching/playing the 4th but super sim is not seamless and sim stats so out of whack. Feels like all the cool creative ideas saved for MC and us franchise guys dont even get scraps anymore just recycled and repackaged sht

Era's is great but it's STILL FULL BUGS.. Why do 22-24 year old players retire after 1-2 years pro?? The Historic Drafts are full of auto-generated players and after a few years of playing Era's you're stuck with all these fake players.. It's not a fun product. Doesn't feel like the coaches or any Mentoring has ANY effect . Just like MyGM.. It's a fake experience.
After all, 2k almost owns the NBA. they don't need to change anything when ea sports doesn't even compete with them anymore. this game has gone downhill ever since they added vc in 2k14.
They've neglected growing the sim basketball that they used to be known for because of myteam, mycareer/city. They need to drop those completely or make them separate games entirely. Imagine if they spent their time just working on evolving their simulation basketball side/actual NBA simulation, versus having to spend so much time building all that other trash. Also, Eras sucks because they dont even have full rosters. Who are the 3-4 fake players on my 2002 sixers? If you dont have the ability to recreate all the players, then dont make the game mode.

They’re not locked behind some ultimate team simulation numbers actually makes sense injuries makes sense not everybody’s injured every two minutes. Madden is behind the show. Create a team design the league in your own image rule changes so on so forth, Madden doesn’t even attempt to do any of that. It's closer to falling behind Madden than you think. If Madden just goes back to the old scouting format and fixes their UI it's better because they excel at the two things that matter in a franchise mode: player generation and player progression/regression. 2k's player generation has always been horrendous and the progression system now is non-existent. The RPG element has been eradicated. And the statistical simulation engine is broken. Madden's hasn't been that bad in like 10 years. You're correct that all the sizzle reel stuff you put on the back of the box is missing in Madden. And that stuff can be fun. But 2k is like the Star Wars prequels. The ideas are really cool but it's executed so poorly it's hard to enjoy. Like what MyEras actually is vs what the marketing says are two different things. Tons of players are missing. Ratings and animations are inaccurate for 70% of the players. It's literally just there to say it's there. Also the fact you can't save a copy of every draft class because they limit the save files is idiotic. You have to but everything thing on their servers so you can't play if the Internet is down or once they wipe the servers. The team builder was revolutionary 6 years ago but it needs some quality of life upgrades (like saving things to hard drive and ability to add more favorites) and again because everything stays on the server your franchise gets wiped in 2 years. They downgraded the UI in MyNBA to make it more annoying to play (something Madden also did). But I think EA is more likely to fix their issues before 2k fixes theirs. Especially once NCAA drops and Madden loses sales and the devs have to compete again. (Even if it's with other devs in the same company.) Whereas I don't think 2k even remotely cares about MyNBA. I think they've done the math and realized they can afford to lose sales and still make more money by squeezing the MyTeam and MyCareer players.

(Even if you could use Barry, to your point he'd feel exactly like Derrick Henry. 2k at least has a good two dozen guys who feel unique.) Madden's franchise is bare bones. 100%. But just like a house, the bones are more important than the drapes. The radio show was cool but honestly I have the sound off 90% of the time. Even when I was younger I did because it got repetitive pretty fast. Agree on commentary, they do need to change it, it needs to be changed like every 3 years, but we said that about Nance and Simms too. It's be great if they could use AI to get Madden and Summerall or add in Howard Cosell. Yes, the presentation was definitely better and it IS cool when you want immerse yourself. But as an adult with a wife and kid and limited time, I just skip it anyway 90% of the time. (Although I do miss the old trophy room feature.) You are 100% right about contracts. But 2k is just as bad. Idk if any game has ever gotten that right tbh. Which is sad. Madden changed their UI sometime between 20 and 23. Maybe it was 21 so it's been 4 years idk but I do care a lot about the UI because it's unavoidable. The menu system should be as seamless as possible. It's no different than any other computer application. Good menu design can make it break an application. I don't want to sit there messing with the menu. The pricing bug is ridiculous. I agree. Especially with how long it's been an issue and they just ignore it. And the renovations *are* dumb and pointless. And I do enjoy the owner mode stuff when it works. But that's all window dressing. The replayability ultimately comes from that cycle of scout-draft-develop. Everything else can add to that but it can't replace it. Like I still own Madden 08, Madden 16 and NFL 2k5, College Hoops 2k7 -- which has 2k5 style weekly wrap up show and a tournament selection show -- among others and I honestly prefer Madden 20 because 1) just too much time has passed in terms of gameplay (2k8 not withstanding) and 2) for all the depth of those old games, the foundation is weaker. That scout-draft-develop cycle just isn't as rewarding. (Also they are at times way *too* in depth and didn't have enough QoL additions so they can become tedious.) But we agree both are lazy cash grabs and we both hope something changes to bring back the passion in those games from the 2000s
Franchise mode my nba will always been in 2k modes it’s season mode you have hella customization you can do at the end of the day your playing for the trophy 🏆 and creating your own dynasty league are a full make believe mode putting Jordan lebron and Kobe on the same team are making a retro team vs new era team east and west and see what you come up with adjusting your mode is important lower shot Tennessee’s and potential then those players won’t get those badges that you’re talking about
What are you talking about in madden when you draft a rookie all he has to do is play a certain Number of downs and then he gets his X factor or superstar or just star he enters the league he just has it you said u have to earn it 😂😂😂 earn what 😂 in 2k you can train with mentors and upgrade your badges or get new ones. Yes, I also agree 2k's franchise is overall better. But in madden you at least get scenarios that lead to rating boosts. In 2k a player does not get rewarded with upgrades for playing well, it's all a matter of chance. The mentor thing is cool but it should be stronger. You basically have to have a 33+ year old superstar with a ton of gold/HOF badges or else the feature does nothing at all. Most old players lose their badges except a select few. In real life you can have a bench warmer bring value as a mentor. Also, it should affect ratings not just badges. There is no way to have control over attribute development right now; the training presets are useless. They used to not be useless!!! You used to be able to create a custom training regimen for each player!!! You used to be able to put extra training points into a certain attribute to help a bad defender/shooter become a good one!!! They have replaced that system with a practice calendar schedule thing that is way harder to keep up with or track the effectiveness/progress of. They also added the boom/bust% attribute in the player editor, which is a great feature AS LONG AS it's implemented alongside something that gives you the ability to sway those numbers with your own training. Right now, despite the training features 2k has attempted to implement, they feel inconsequential compared to those probabilities. Mike is right, you have way less control over development in 2k than in madden. And the little control you do have does not feel satisfying because you have no way of knowing whether the development you're seeing is the result of your own effort or because of pure chance.

Glad you made this. This is the only reason i still buy 2k. They are more focused on myplayer than anything. Mynba definitely needs an overhaul

But I think EA is more likely to fix their issues before 2k fixes theirs. Especially once NCAA drops and Madden loses sales and the devs have to compete again. (Even if it's with other devs in the same company.)
Whereas I don't think 2k even remotely cares about MyNBA. I think they've done the math and realized they can afford to lose sales and still make more money by squeezing the MyTeam and MyCareer players.

Contracts are still not handled in a realistic way. players don’t play like themselves why dose ever running back run the same,example Johnathan Taylor and Derick Henry don’t run the same in real life but in madden they do.
You seem to care a lot about ui that’s fine but madden franchise ui has legit been the same for at least 5 years. And still no create a team and other creation opportunities to make the league your own.
Madden isn’t competing with 2k they need to compete with themselves as games they made a decade plus years ago is better deep and a better simulation.
For instance owner mode in madden 04 had dynamic crowd attendance based on prices you set teams record etc. some renovation options are there but it’s pointless.
Can you imagine the My eras mode in madden franchise mode that would be amazing play as your favorite team with the legends you grew up watching. Oh you gotta pay for legends in ultimate team that’s the only way to play as Barry sanders Peyton manning etc yuck 🤮
I could go on forever I think the point of all this is we both love sports games and want them to be the best they can be I don’t want madden to fail or go away nor do I want that for 2k. But I think they have both become lazy cash grabs
@@KushWilson Agree 2k's gameplay is definitely better but that's a different thing from franchise. That's the primary reason why 2k is still a better game overall. (Even if you could use Barry, to your point he'd feel exactly like Derrick Henry. 2k at least has a good two dozen guys who feel unique.)
Madden's franchise is bare bones. 100%. But just like a house, the bones are more important than the drapes. The radio show was cool but honestly I have the sound off 90% of the time. Even when I was younger I did because it got repetitive pretty fast.
Agree on commentary, they do need to change it, it needs to be changed like every 3 years, but we said that about Nance and Simms too. It's be great if they could use AI to get Madden and Summerall or add in Howard Cosell.
Yes, the presentation was definitely better and it IS cool when you want immerse yourself. But as an adult with a wife and kid and limited time, I just skip it anyway 90% of the time. (Although I do miss the old trophy room feature.)
You are 100% right about contracts. But 2k is just as bad. Idk if any game has ever gotten that right tbh. Which is sad.
Madden changed their UI sometime between 20 and 23. Maybe it was 21 so it's been 4 years idk but I do care a lot about the UI because it's unavoidable. The menu system should be as seamless as possible. It's no different than any other computer application. Good menu design can make it break an application. I don't want to sit there messing with the menu.
The pricing bug is ridiculous. I agree. Especially with how long it's been an issue and they just ignore it. And the renovations *are* dumb and pointless. And I do enjoy the owner mode stuff when it works.
But that's all window dressing. The replayability ultimately comes from that cycle of scout-draft-develop. Everything else can add to that but it can't replace it.
Like I still own Madden 08, Madden 16 and NFL 2k5, College Hoops 2k7 -- which has 2k5 style weekly wrap up show and a tournament selection show -- among others and I honestly prefer Madden 20 because 1) just too much time has passed in terms of gameplay (2k8 not withstanding) and 2) for all the depth of those old games, the foundation is weaker. That scout-draft-develop cycle just isn't as rewarding. (Also they are at times way *too* in depth and didn't have enough QoL additions so they can become tedious.)
But we agree both are lazy cash grabs and we both hope something changes to bring back the passion in those games from the 2000s
Franchise mode my nba will always been in 2k modes it’s season mode you have hella customization you can do at the end of the day your playing for the trophy 🏆 and creating your own dynasty league are a full make believe mode putting Jordan lebron and Kobe on the same team are making a retro team vs new era team east and west and see what you come up with adjusting your mode is important lower shot Tennessee’s and potential then those players won’t get those badges that you’re talking about

Certain real rookies yes depend on their real life input in the league for example winning rookie of the year.
Yes, I also agree 2k's franchise is overall better. But in madden you at least get scenarios that lead to rating boosts. In 2k a player does not get rewarded with upgrades for playing well, it's all a matter of chance. The mentor thing is cool but it should be stronger. You basically have to have a 33+ year old superstar with a ton of gold/HOF badges or else the feature does nothing at all. Most old players lose their badges except a select few. In real life you can have a bench warmer bring value as a mentor. Also, it should affect ratings not just badges. There is no way to have control over attribute development right now; the training presets are useless. They used to not be useless!!! You used to be able to create a custom training regimen for each player!!! You used to be able to put extra training points into a certain attribute to help a bad defender/shooter become a good one!!! They have replaced that system with a practice calendar schedule thing that is way harder to keep up with or track the effectiveness/progress of. They also added the boom/bust% attribute in the player editor, which is a great feature AS LONG AS it's implemented alongside something that gives you the ability to sway those numbers with your own training. Right now, despite the training features 2k has attempted to implement, they feel inconsequential compared to those probabilities. Mike is right, you have way less control over development in 2k than in madden. And the little control you do have does not feel satisfying because you have no way of knowing whether the development you're seeing is the result of your own effort or because of pure chance.

MyNBA lacks and issues.
Lacks:
1. Free agent signing and player trade conversations - They had this on previous 2ks i donnt know why they took it off while it adds a realism to the simulation.
2. Cut Scenes of Championship Parade, Draft Day, and Trade and Draft Acquisitions - FIFA has this dope cut scenes with their manager mode (Playersignings and Trades)
3. Draft Combines - Only the scouting reports and draft combine stats are the basis now when drafting players. Back then 2k has this combine or workout invites to the players that are joining the draft so we can feel their playstyle idk again why did they remove this. Should be added again and put other playable draft combine drills/
4. Player Morale Impact - During 2k14 and 15 we can pitch players to sign and sometimes disgruntled players that are planning to leave for free agency only needs to be talked to so ttheir morale will go up again. Idk again why tf did they remove this. This helps balancing the simulation of creating a super team.
Issues
1. Too many players are retiring even if they are young.
2. Challenge for a call sometimes are buggy you dont see the insant replay even if you dont push any button it goes fast forward to the result.
3. Courts in Eras cant be replaced I know tthis has to do something with the legal rights of jerseys and courts.
4. Injured Player recovers too fast even though I have adjusted the settings. (e.g Joel Embiid in one of my saves got hurt 1st month of tthe season and is ruled out for the season after only three months he has recovered this injury lol
My Wishlist
1. Add FIBA Games in the MyNBA current era i know it also has something to do with legal rights with FIBA but like EA on FIFA they have rights on different leagues and even world cup. As the season progress a football player is pulled out from the team for their national team duties. I hope they add this to 2k or if not EA might capitalize this from its Association Mode. Since they are known from having multiple rights of sports platform.
2. Be a GM/Coach of a National Team like Fifa other countries can offer you a international Job.
3. Bring Back everything thatt I mentioned on tthe Lacks List.
