    Just wanted to say thank you to all of you for the awesome response to this update. This video has received the most likes and comments of any of my videos so far, and it's still within the first 24 hours since posting (as I type this). All of your kind words have really motivated me to make even more progress and share more with you all! ❤

      Thanks Kris, I wish I had the room to build in HO, because of the better availability of equipment and such. However, I really like how much N scale has expanded and the engineering they've done to improve the details and running.

      @@RoyEltham Operations gives your layout a purpose and your less likely to get bored with it over time. If it wasn't for the changes to come with my room, I wouldn't be tearing mine down but I am building something better later.

    ROY, ROY ROY, !!! HOLY COW!! this is going to be great. Love the Jerry sats clean up challenge, I really need to do that, the map its self looks like you drew a perfect track plan, then you switched to your actual plan and wow you nailed it. Love the divider idea at the military base. Its all going to come together nicely. Great research. It's nice to model places we are familiar with and can do local research. I agree with others that building it in stages or phases will keep the project fresh. Be careful with portions that are out of reach. ( Ask me how I know) Plus my advice is always, less is more. Looking forward to seeing those VCRR Alcos in action and all the neat industries of Southern California, NW Los Angeles.

    • @RoyEltham
      @RoyEltham  3 роки тому

      Thanks splitrock323! Having grown up in the area, I use to ride my bike as a kid alongside some of these tracks, and saw those Alco's move cars quite often in the 80s. I have tried to be mindful of the reach needed in places. The top surface of the foam sits at 31", and I am able to reach most areas fairly well. I'll just have to be careful of buildings or scenery I put in front. Sadly, I have not been able to find any N-Scale Alco S6 engines, so until someone makes some you and I will have to live with the slightly more modern engines they are using now. I have the VCRR 1560 GP15, and a GP38-2 that will be renumbers eventually to be VCRR 2136.

    #1 How thick does your CNC machine cut? #2 What computer program are you using to high light the railroad lines on the map? #3 Would you build me a small cabinet with shelves? #4 I'll swap 4x8 feet foam sheets for the cabinet! #5 Very cool designs for the layout! #6 I've driven through Fillmore(CA-138?)?

    • @RoyEltham
      @RoyEltham  3 роки тому +1

      1. The CNC is a Shapeoko 3 XXL by Carbide 3D with some upgrades. It has a clearance and Z travel of about 6 inches or so, but the cut depth depends on the end mill bit used. I think the longest bit I could safely use in the router is around 2-2.5" so that would be the max cut thickness.
      2. I was using this site here: wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/California/Railroads (hopefully the link works for you).
      3-4. I had help from a friend building those two racks I showed, I would consider getting him to help me make one for you, especially for the right amount of 4x8 foam sheets, but you might be better of asking Jerry.
      5. Thank you, Glad to have RoyH approval. ;)
      6. Fillmore is along CA-126. Moorpark is along CA-118 (Ronald Reagan Freeway). Both run roughly east/west and intersect with I-5. CA-138 runs between Palmdale and Cajon Junction.
