Looks like a nice guitar. J Mascis is the real deal - some people just have the spirit of rock'n'roll within them. Dinosaur Jr have created so many great songs, pulling off that trick of sounding loud, raucous and melodic all at the same time.
I know he's not underrated to his fans, but J Mascis is an underrated/undertalked about guitar player. I love his style. I'd call his soloing feel style (which is typically my favorite) but that's just me.
Everything J does is GOLD, but there is a special magic in the moment at 5:51 when he has to take a deep breath and rouse himself before saying the word "funkier".
I love when I find clips of him in documentaries.... Two of my faves are "That Pedal Movie", and "Salad Days" (the DC Hardcore film, with Ian Mackaye & Henry Rollins).
I just want to say if Dinosaur Jr is ever in your local area you have to go see them! I saw them in ATL a couple years ago pre covid. They are so goddamn loud live it's amazing, my ears are still not the same.
I got hooked on Tarpit. Have followed closely since then. The songwriting, guitar playing, and the singing of J Mascis are consistently top notch. Kudos to Fender for recognizing an original group of musicians.
I own #77. I instantly fell in love with this guitar the second it was in my hands. I left the shop to think about it. Came back and bought it. I have barely set it down ever since. It instantly became my favorite.
What a pleasant treat in a time of dishonesty and bs… Some dudes rocking out, no auto-tune, no bull, just straight awesomeness…, this gives me hope, thanks J…

I lol'ed at them not letting Lou play his beat up old Gibson bass and swapping out all their Marshals with Fender amps. I get it but still kind of funny.
I have been loving this band since the first time I heard Bug in 1998. With a Tele not trying to cover all the frequencies like a Jazz I can finally hear J's voice in all its naked earnestness. We all knew the noise was a delicious veil all along. The guys deserve a different sonic slant on things. Even though this Signature model reeks of commercialism I still wish them all the very best.
In another way it kinda makes sense, as early Marshalls were based on Fenders, the JTM45 is pretty much a modded Bassman. Also, J uses effects all the time (even his clean tone comes from an overdrive pedal), so the amp probably doesn't matter that much.
“Start Choppin” I watched a video of this and knew the dinosaur jr. I like not only the jazz master but also him who plays it using a telecaster and Les Paul Jr.

i've watched every J interview out there and I have no idea why I've never done this before. He sounds like a normal dude at 1.25x. I cant stop laughing about this.
If you’ve never owned a tele this would make sense. But if so, you’d know, of course it matters. The action, the pick ups, the metal plate on the tele that gives it that sweet spot. Can’t be imitated, that’s why everyone from Kurt cobain to Kirk hammit uses teles in the studio
"With the Big Muff, everything has sustain."

Big Muff Triangle here! Prob get the Ram's Head next; they definitely sound best with single coil pickups

Seeing it is weird, indeed. But hearing it isn’t weird, given that 90% of the leads you’ve heard on Dino records was done with that Tele.
I noticed him starting to play a Tele more at live shows around 2009.

What a guy, what a band. But can’t help thinking that with all those amps, pedals and processing the actual guitar doesn’t matter that much…
Maybe part of it is the feel of the guitar, the 25 and half scale radius, the look; the frame of mind it puts him in when he looks down at it
