"With the Big Muff, everything has sustain."
Facts.
Big Muff Triangle here! Prob get the Ram's Head next; they definitely sound best with single coil pickups
Finally got to see these guys a couple years back in SF. He used about four different guitars during the set, and even with all the distortion he uses each one sounded completely distinct from the others and suited what he was playing perfectly. Clearly not just swapping axes at random
Ikr he speaks fact, no bullshit like "ThE WoOD So GoOD SuCh SuStaIn WoW"
@@daverice2426 Sometimes it is about the tuning of the guitars. Sonic Youth have/had a truck full of Jazzmasters and Jaguars and had to change the guitar between every couple of songs as they have unique alternate tunings for many songs
Sovtek, checkin' in....!!
This is just unbelievable how J's voice does not age at all.
It helps if you sounded old already when you were 20
This lineup has been around far longer than their initial run. It’s true when you find the right combination of band members and sounds, there is nothing like it.
These are the original members.
@@adamstaysick yep
I like Lou but miss Mike....
This is the original lineup t boy
@@JBmusicart yeah, I thought that Lou was an original member?
He has one of the most recogniceable and underrated voices imo
He could read an audiobook and I’d be hooked
His voice is recognisable because it’s awful. The whole band is trash.
Recognizable
@@Gubgubgooberimagine!
Looks like a nice guitar. J Mascis is the real deal - some people just have the spirit of rock'n'roll within them. Dinosaur Jr have created so many great songs, pulling off that trick of sounding loud, raucous and melodic all at the same time.
Omg j's talking up a storm in this one
Still sounds normal at x1.5 speed!
Lol
I love when I find clips of him in documentaries....
Two of my faves are "That Pedal Movie", and "Salad Days" (the DC Hardcore film, with Ian Mackaye & Henry Rollins).
Feels so simple, pure, genuine. The lost art of the trio.
Yoo the reason I wanted a tele in the first place was Jeff Buckley and J's Start Choppin riffs
I still want to be J. Mascis when I grow up. (I'm 36)
I just want to say if Dinosaur Jr is ever in your local area you have to go see them! I saw them in ATL a couple years ago pre covid. They are so goddamn loud live it's amazing, my ears are still not the same.
There is a difference between entertainment and hearing damage.
@@Mark70609 I wore earplugs and was fine. They were incredible. Best live band. The pit was great.
@@Mark70609 The higher the volume the better the band dontcha know?
@@Mark70609 no one cares.
Alice In Chains gave me tinnitus
Everything J does is GOLD, but there is a special magic in the moment at 5:51 when he has to take a deep breath and rouse himself before saying the word "funkier".
Don’t cha hate it when J. Mascis comes out with a new guitar and now you gotta buy a new guitar? Me too.
15 hours of interview resulted in about the most intense 10 minute spoken words by J Mascis!
Serious tho, what an awesome person!
I want the full 15 hrs
Release the Mascis cut!!!
Damn J, chill out.
I know he's not underrated to his fans, but J Mascis is an underrated/undertalked about guitar player. I love his style. I'd call his soloing feel style (which is typically my favorite) but that's just me.
I love any dude who stacks multiple fuzzes
I own #77. I instantly fell in love with this guitar the second it was in my hands. I left the shop to think about it. Came back and bought it. I have barely set it down ever since. It instantly became my favorite.
Damn, that's my favorite number. Let me know if you ever sell it! :-) HAha.
I lol'ed at them not letting Lou play his beat up old Gibson bass and swapping out all their Marshals with Fender amps. I get it but still kind of funny.
Love how he has the amps set up so they are blasting right into his ears. Really cool guitar, too.
He usually has Marshall full stacks, strategically angled in relation to each other. I guess this being a Fender video, the Fender combos are appropriate.
He must be totally deaf....
@@johncollins5552 He wears ear plugs because Dinosaur Jr. is literally the loudest rock band ever, even louder than the Who.
@@danielstoddart Even then, he says he wears earplugs only cause their drummer hits his drums and particularly the cymbals really hard lmfao. Dude is crazy.
@@DaisyHead666 I've been to hundreds of shows, and the loudest bands I've ever heard have been Dinosaur Jr and Swans. Ears ringing three days later.
I got hooked on Tarpit. Have followed closely since then. The songwriting, guitar playing, and the singing of J Mascis are consistently top notch. Kudos to Fender for recognizing an original group of musicians.
Proud owner of #362 and it's a killer telecaster.
I wonder how these serial numbers work. I have 315 and a mate is currently selling 27.
@@fabricejarfi Been wondering the same thing as how distribution worked. I ordered as soon as I saw them about a week before release. Wasn't sure how long fender would make them since the purple sparkle jazzmaster was a short run.
Hearing this stuff makes me miss the good old days of WFNX.
Holy way back machine!
What a pleasant treat in a time of dishonesty and bs… Some dudes rocking out, no auto-tune, no bull, just straight awesomeness…, this gives me hope, thanks J…
20:25 I‘m the same! I write lyrics for my band but I don‘t even undertand myself the meaning of what I write but months or even years later I suddenly understand and see parallels to how my life was at that moment or even became later.
Wow, thats a great recording with a tight band!
J is a beautiful soul and artist
I want a J Mascis tele. I love this band forever.
My friend’s dad really rocks!
who’s your friends dad??
I have been loving this band since the first time I heard Bug in 1998. With a Tele not trying to cover all the frequencies like a Jazz I can finally hear J's voice in all its naked earnestness. We all knew the noise was a delicious veil all along. The guys deserve a different sonic slant on things. Even though this Signature model reeks of commercialism I still wish them all the very best.
'Reeks of commercialism' eh? What's he supposed to do - give you a guitar?
@@timhall3575 They said commercialism, not capitalism lmao
I swear I've never seen J more excited in his life than here! 😜
Much love to J, Lou, Murph & Fender!
I love this band so much.
Interesting to see him rocking on the fender amps, which makes sense in this promo situation... I have to say their sound/tone sounds great here also.
In another way it kinda makes sense, as early Marshalls were based on Fenders, the JTM45 is pretty much a modded Bassman.
Also, J uses effects all the time (even his clean tone comes from an overdrive pedal), so the amp probably doesn't matter that much.
Love it more than Marshalls. Sounds more hairy with the muff!
Love J., he's simply 'The Wizard of Fuzz'! :D
I love so much Dinosuar Jr. I’m happy every time I listen to them!
I Love this old school camera person bobbing around Infront of a band desperately trying to ignoring him/her. Heh it's amazing. Now all we need is a crowd of people completely failing to catch some dummy trying to stage dive.
Anyways great video, Ty
I love this band more all the time . Jay has had a huge influence on my playing %100
Thumb is my favorite song
Really enjoyed that! Thanks you guys. I've been listening to j since the mid 90's. Dinosaur Jr. Has got a sound that is only theirs.
I can’t wait to interview J tonight! Wish me luck!! 🥺❤️
J Mascis very underrated guitarist, singer, and songwriter
“Start Choppin”
I watched a video of this and knew the dinosaur jr.
I like not only the jazz master but also him who plays it using a telecaster and Les Paul Jr.
YES‼︎The sound that hung fuzz in the telecaster is the unexpectedly best‼︎
In my opinion it really doesn't doesn't matter what he plays. He'll make it sound great.
Great stuff, J and his band are legends 👌
It sound so good with all Fender Gear 😍
love this guy. that's proper chatty for our J :)
It's so strange to hear and see J Mascis not playing a Jazzmaster. Great sounding Telecaster, regardless.
Seeing it is weird, indeed. But hearing it isn’t weird, given that 90% of the leads you’ve heard on Dino records was done with that Tele.
I noticed him starting to play a Tele more at live shows around 2009.
He's been playing telecasters live since 94.
He’s talked about being associated with jazzmasters but mostly playing teles and les Paul jrs
Oh man he put it through it's paces on Feel the pain......
Jay Mascis's spirit animal is eyore
Suena increíble con todo el backline fender 💜
Damn he's got some rippin tone here!!
This is amazing!!! Thank you fender :)
Just ordered one of these today. Stoked.
Man... You can't tell me that opening riff was not inspired by Jimi's "Wait Until Tomorrow". Very cool though. I love J.
Hmm.. great Tele, I like the blue sparkle & the 58 top loader setup
I gotta say, I love J's tone here. Maybe it's the mix, but there's so much more clarity than his usual Marshall stack live sound.
J in the mood to talk - this guitar must be really good!
Video has a lock down feel. Cool song 🎵
I want to see the outtakes when he would fall asleep during the interview :P
Always see them if they come to your town! My God they are loud live!
Wow an actual good Dino j mix.
I don't need a 3rd telecaster, but that blue sparkle is awesome 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Western MA represent.
i have the J Mascis Jazzmaster, now I obviously need the Tele :)
Dinossauro Jr é foda! 🤘🏻😜
God I love this
やっぱカッコイイっ!
Sold me on wanting that Tele... And a big muff XD.
Watch music performances at 1x, watch the interview sections at 1.25 or 1.5x and it's more like a normal interview :)
i've watched every J interview out there and I have no idea why I've never done this before. He sounds like a normal dude at 1.25x. I cant stop laughing about this.
Just got mine today!!!
guitar hero
Loved the vid
Amazing
Start Choppin (No g ;)
9:08 Feel The Pain
17:05 I Ran Away
Although all the songs start playing with J talking over them before the above timestamps. So probably best to just watch the whole thing as it’s only 21mins
Love Dino jr. :))
J is the coolest
I don't get why Murf doesn't play Fender drums?
I dont think they exist

can't heart this enough
I love how Lou is using the Troy Sanders Jaguar
Murph is so funny! Nice Dude!
I love J. Masochist
Tele’s are the greatest guitars in history. I’d be willing to bet it’s everyone’s desert island guitar. Anyone who doubts this has never owned one
That sweet spot between the seventh and twelfth fret,,, nothing better
My girlfriend just got me a Squire Tele custom at CMC...
Just put it through my Marshall this morning....tasty.
Eut la chance de croiser leur route, aux Docks Lausan

This guy is onToo much volume 🤪🎸
how that tone😲😲😲😲
Love the look. Wish for a Jazzmaster tele hybrid. That would be an awesome J Mascis model
I lost the watch given to me for my 21st birthday in the moshpit of a Dino Jr gig in 1994. Curse you J
I love Dinosaur jr.
i thought his fav was a jazzmaster ? but hell. that man can play anything
J for president
Where are the Marshalls and Lou's Gibson. C'mon.
espero que les hayan regalado esos nuevos instrumentos y amplificadores
Heaven forbid a promotional video actually be concerned with promoting the brand in question.
It really shows the musicianship that they are getting there signature sound without there standard gear
tbh I think J’s big muff turned up all the way into any amp turned up all the way is gonna sound like him haha
It’s a fender video bruv, it’s not surprising that they’re gonna hook them with fender gear
🤘🤘🤘
Would've loved to see the wall of Marshalls. It's part of his rig.
yes! transparency is key in good content marketing. Plus it's an awesome sight!
I honestly think this wall of fenders sound even better than the usual live tone. Plus he uses a fender twin and AC30 for recording anyway
I still have my original picture vinyl of Start Choppin.
Same here! the one Dino single I got.
Picture vinyl sucks
He looks thrilled
I've watched so many interviews with J in them and that's about as much as he'll express haha
First experience with J Mascis eh?
You do not know J
I prefer this amp set-up than his usual marshall rig
💜💜💜💜💜
2:53 when the Treble Booster kicked in
Very nice! What gear is Lou now using? Seems that he is now also endorsing Fender.
Local H and Dinosaur Jr = Ear plugs. I honestly wish I had the the shooting range ear protection for Local H at Otto's in Dekalb.
im not really a guitar player, but the first song is using fuzz pedal.?big muff is same type of fuzz pedal sound..?
