Playing The Gloucester Hornpipe- on Recorder in Gloucestershire!

- I went on holiday to the Cotswolds. Because I'm a bit of a nerd, I like to find pieces of music that match the places I visit- and this time I came across 'The Gloucester Hornpipe'. I really liked the simple tune, so had some fun putting together a short music video.
At the end of the video I've put up the sheet music, if you'd like to screen shot and give it a go, then please feel free :)
The recorder is a Mollenhauer Denner soprano in pear wood.

Thanks for watching!
Agree with L K's comment. Spectacular recorder music video. Spectacular is a large word yet the simple charm of a stone wall and street corner @2:39-2:41 along with the historic masonry and shingles are too cool. Starlings, autumn flocking. White Terrier along the river @3:44-3:47 just fab.
Thank you for making this beautiful music. It makes my heart warm ❤
Thanks for the lovely comment, made my day 😊
What a great idea. I guess that the hornpipe has some naval connotations but it’s also a great dance rhythm for us landed people.
This tune makes think of 'Tales from the River Bank'. 🤩
Superb! Great musical way to give Gloucestershire's gorgeous scenery a plug. It's very Mike Oldfield; I'd love to hear you doing a duet with Leslie Penning, the chap who played recorder on several Mike Oldfield singles, and on "Ommadawn". I shall learn this tune on my own recorders. Your sense of humour on a number of your videos gets you my subscription 😊
Beautiful! Bravo! It was nice of the little bird to sing A solo at the end.
Thank you! He was a very well- timed bird 🙂
This is so lovely thank you ,well done , beautiful pictures .thank you so much .
Absolutely lovely!! 👏👏👏
Beautifull put together. 😍
I much like the English countryside!
From Belgium.
It is very pretty!
Cool 😎 this is brilliant original music
Wow I am really impressed. Didn't you say you started the recorder about a year ago? And here you are playing recorder, guitar, Glockenspiel and piano. If that's was not difficult enough you even brought all of the instruments together in such a joyful version of the tune :)
Thank you! I started recorder about a year and a half ago now… and have been piling on other instruments ever since 😅
It’s great fun. Thanks so much for watching!
That's lovely.🤟😎
It’s so inspiring to see one doing all this music stuff with such a passion👍 You really good at it.
Thank you! I think naïve enthusiasm gets me through at the moment!
Love this one.
😊 thanks, glad you enjoyed!
Hey what a great tune. Great job on production. You are becoming quite the one man band. Cheered me up and went very nicely along with my glass of red wine, :-) . Thanks !
Thanks! I’ll be strapping a cymbal to my head or something before long. Glad you enjoyed your wine, cheers! 🍷
Love this!
😁 thanks!
Great tune and well played. I found the score on 'The Session', a particularly good resource.
Thanks! I love digging around on The Session. I’ve found more things I want to play than I’ll ever get through, though!
Liked the tune fitted in well with area.well done.
Thanks. Thinking caps on for another Lake District tune soon. ⛰
So nice!

Another lovely video. Your talents keep expanding, and your musical explorations are inspired. The scenery was also lovely. Thanks!
Thank you, really enjoyed making the whole thing. Cotswolds scenery does help!
Really nice tune and you played it great. The arrangement was super.
😊 thanks very much!
Looked incredibly cold. Another gorgeous spot. Your playing is lovely. You are getting really good at these compilations now. Well done. Your playing sounds great again.
Thank you! It was lovely and sunny but freeeeezing… ⛄️
Hornpipes aren't about the sea at all. A hornpipe is a dance with a specfic step. There are thousands of them and here in NE England we tend to play them with a dotted rhythm- as do the Irish. It's still a pretty tune
Yes, we use hornpipes often in Irish Set Dancing.
Nice tune. Guess you took advantage of the brief sunny spell before it was back to chilly weather again + snow wtf???
Thanks! Couldn’t have timed the weather better, all that sun. I got caught out in a brief blizzard today, ha ❄️ ☃️
Nice video
Thanks 😊
