- Jamie Wylde gives basic instruction for how to play spoons in an old time jam, with people playing fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, standup bass, dulcimer, tin whistle, and other traditional music instruments. Video includes tips for accompanying popular old time tunes The Arkansas Traveler and Whiskey Before Breakfast. Find playing spoons with Celtic band Charmas in their "spoons" version of Whiskey Before Breakfast, available on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and other streaming services.

I’m from the wv coal fields. And thI n Nashville for a while. Now I’m a. Mailman in Ky bourbon country. I got a wild hair while drinking one day and though. I can play the spoons. And I got me a decent pair any by god I been tryin to learn while I can. Work 60 hours a week as a cca but I try to fit in a half hour here and there. I play other instruments which helps but I don’t hav any friends yet and always practice alone. But thanks for sharing! It’s really helped.
That is great to hear! This is definitely one of those instruments you can never complain you don't have time for practicing...in the car...while your spaghetti is boiling...in the bathroom... :)
Hey Jamie, I love the style you play. Not too much clacking. 🙃🙃
I'm gonna try,!
look up abby the spoon lady on youtube she will blow you away with her spoon playing and she a beautifull soul
You are absolutely amazing sir, Lord bless you
Have you ever wrapped your spoon handles with gauze like tape.. Then it doesn't hurt.🥄🙏💜💜💜
Since it's a kitchen instrument, maybe little hot pads?
I love listening to the spoons I think there is all kinds of things around us that play music I try and try but cant g
I am not the spoons player in this video, but if you would like to accompany your musical friends, I would say start slowly. Just tap along to something easy like kids' music and build up from there. Fanciness is not important. What matters is having good rhythm. If you have good rhythm, you are listening alertly, and you are having fun, your friends will be stoked. Even a very simple spoon beat can help keep the musicians on track and prevent them from speeding up as the tunes come around.
You are like WAY COOL!!! Thanks for sharing some of your spoon playing techniques. 😊 Oh, and keep on playing!
Would love to see this guy play spoons live in Wetherspoons

Good man Jamie..Be careful in Ireland...Look up the song on UA-cam "Spoon Murder"
Thanks for the tips. Your awesome man ❤
Thanks for the video! I’ve been playing for a few days and it’s so fun!
Thanks for sharing your talents. Thanks!
Most helpful instruction. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this .
Thank you for the instruction.
The song was so loud that I couldn’t hear you playing.
Thanks for reaching out, Cyndi. Yes, the spoons aren't especially loud in the song, just because it was recorded for Spotify, not for spoon-instruction, but we think it's still pretty cool to watch Jamie's moves while he's playing :)
What if you have only one hand
Well, I don't play spoons myself, but I guess you would need to get creative. Do you have an arm where the hand is missing? One could theoretically use their leg plus a stick held by an arm to whap the spoons on both sides. Or, cheater spoons, of course (the kind where you only need to whap your leg). I tell you, I am amazed by what people come up with. Where I live, there is a bagpiper who has one hand with no fingers to speak of. Somehow, he manages to cover those holes, and they tell me he is a good piper too!
Not my cup of tea
Rythmically challenged
So yes this is a hobby... Cause from the looks of this guy spoons does not pay. Still interesting to see how well he can do this.
Not my cup of tea!
