Lived in a house with only a bathtub for about 6 months while the shower was being installed, and holy cow is that hard! You don't realize how convenient a shower is until you don't have one!
Regarding the Izu Peninsula, the waterfalls remind me a lot of New England, specifically the waterfalls and hiking trails of central New Hampshire where I partly lived growing up :D When I move to southern Kanto next year, Izu Peninsula will be top of the list to visit!

Hi! This was the first video that we ever saw of you guys, and its the one that got us hooked to your channel! We found your channel after our first trip to Japan, and watching your videos really motivated us to go back. We actually went to Izu on our most recent trip just because of this video, but the largest waterfall was closed. Thanks for making great videos, and inspiring us to travel and try to make our own too!

    • @kydeanderic

Oh bummer the waterfall was closed! Hopefully you still had a good time down there, it's pretty uncommon for tourists to make it down to Izu, but we were really happy we made the trip. Glad you guys found our videos and they have motivated a return trip! -E

Chestnuts can be flat, often there will be two or three of them inside the prickly ball. The flat one was in the middle of two others, so the shape is squished. When you heat them (Chestnuts roasting by an open fire) they will steam, soften and split open.

Well, we have always shot in 60FPS, but UA-cam just recently started displaying in it so I started rendering the files in full 60FPS instead of 29.whateverFPS. My new render settings are of a higher bitrate too to make up for the extra frames. But these files are really big, this was over 14GB and took 2 and a half days just to render. Not sure how I can keep that up! -Eric

I just found this channel today. You're videos are great and I've been on a Kyde and Eric marathon this whole afternoon. I stopped for moment to comment because at 13:56 Kyde was pointing out on a map where the two of you were at. She "walked" past the "You are here" dot and said "now we''re around here". Kyde and Eric Yeah I would have. It totally makes me jealous. I desperately want to travel again. I'm sorta tied to my hometown here due to a medical issue. I'm perfectly healthy but only thanks to a monthly IV infusion of a drug that's crazy expensive and I would never be able to afford if I left my home Province's 'Pharmacare' program. So I am stuck between government eligibility requirements and the treatment schedule. I'm determined to find a way around it, I haven't found it yet though. Maybe remission of my condition due to sheer force of will?

Ice cream vending machines aren't that common in Europe. You might find soft ice machines, but not packaged ice cream. I'm surprised you don't know chestnuts though. Throughout the winter time here you see stands everywhere in the cities selling them.

Wasabi has to have cold clean water cycle through to grow. It is extremely difficult to grow and it takes years to be harvested.
YES! There are 6 or more poisonous snakes and vipers in Japan. So don't mess with 'em.
I have a kind of scrub cloth. Made out of the kind of plastic that they make dish scrubbers out of. That has oblong ring handles on either end, and the 'cloth' is almost a meter long. As long as there is water. I would have a liquid soap bottle with me. It would take 5 or ten minutes and I would be done, and ready for the onsen.

Not sure if someone's answered these already. I tried reading through the comments but got distracted. Yes, Japan has poisonous snakes. They make a type of alcohol with the habu snake by putting it in a jar and just filling it with the ingredients. It's meant to be very strong and good for men's libido (Luke Holloway did a video on it.) I think that bone may be from a horse.
Ps I love your videos :)

Great stuff again, guys. Wish you made more videos like this that were around 1 hour more frequently. Considering i'd love to go to Japan, your videos are about the closest thing I can find to actually experiencing it. There is something about the vlog style that is much more personable as compared to a documentary with cheesy monotonous music in the background and some dude in a suit commenting in a condescending/ultra formal way. I'd love to work in Japan at some point in my life. How did you guys find meeting friends in Japan? Do you have American friends or are they mostly Japanese?

    • @kydeanderic
      @kydeanderic  9 років тому +1

Jamal Smith In our next video, Eric is going to wear a suit and I will be
condescending! haha! That's never gonna happen!Meeting friends has
basically happened through work for me. I have made a few friends
through those friends. We have a mixture of foreign and Japanese
      friends. -Kyde

    Two quick questions for Kyde,
one, did you get a 4 year degree to teach English or a TEFL cert? And was the job hunt in japan for your initial move there very difficult? (i lied, three questions) do you guys have any advice for someone who wants to move to Japan as an English teacher?

what the hell. I washed myself in a bucket before including hair and it takes like 15-20 minutes and isnt at all a problem. And my hair is longer than yours Kyde. Unless you meant all the watter you had was just one bucket. then you might need to be carefull. i guess what im asking is could you splash watter? if yes then the bucket is not an issue.

I saw a recent vid about that very same wasabi cultivation area where a former salaryman quit his job to restore it because he wanted to revitalize the economy of the area and restore the production of wasabi in the area. Last year Quinlan, from Go North Japan, went on a wild wasabi hunting expedition in Tohoku and showed how the hunters foraged for wasabi (with, of course, ecologically sound methodology).

Persimmons sometimes don't have seeds/pits because they make the fruit harder to eat.
Also, if you take the seed/pit of a sweet persimmon, and plant it, any fruit that grows from that seed will most likely be sour, like Crab Apples. To get sweet persimmons, you have to use a clipping from another sweet persimmon tree, and get it to grow into another sapling.
    TOO LONG DIDN'T READ
They don't use the seeds/pits to grow the trees, and the seeds are gross, so they just bred some of 'em to not have seeds.
