Looks like the block acts as a pivot for the hull to move on.

What a cool, relaxed video editing style. Will be watching closely to see how this is resolved. Thanks for sharing.

The beams are held up by the bolt. The rounded block just holds them at the right level to put the bolt through. Then the rubbers stacks pull down only on the edges. The pahi has a system like this, with the central bolt, except with lashings instead of rubber. but the tiki range have blocks preventing the beams moving side to side, and lashings only. In my pahi restoration, I removed the bolts (there was rot around nearly every bolt hole, also) and added blocks on the underside of the beams so they couldn't slip sideways, and they now rest on rubber pads on the hull trough corners. I think the central bolt is a bad design, because it puts a lot more stress on the hulls because the load is closer to the fulcrum (the central bolt). For example on the pahi 31, with the central bolt at half a hull beam 0.6m on a 4.4m crossbeam, that's 7.3 times leverage, but if it's on the edges of the hull (1.2) it becomes only 3.6 times! so it's a lot less stress on the connection!

Hey Dominic, great thoughts and I agree wholeheartedly... you'll see me do an about turn in a couple more vids. I'm documenting the whole process... which includes going the wrong direction for a bit! In real time, as I answer this while working on the boat I went another direction closer to what you are discussing. I had two other Wharrhamites share similar thoughts and one is a Tehini live aboard, Don Henderson, in the FB forum. Plus conversations with Henneke.

I have to say ive seen a bunch of other wharrams and your has much smaller beams then the others. The trawths are larger than you beams.

I’m wondering if there is a ‘trick’ of the camera making it seem so, as these are huge, and in line with the plans 😉

You're exactly right! I try and stay aboard as much as possible... you'll see in coming videos how I'm making use of the space while I work ;)

Say hi to Mark from Wilding sailing... hes working on a Pahi 42 in amsterdam..
Im sort of hoping he goes for a ket h rig long term but he will have to place his main mast well forward so he can build his deck pod central.
