Dim Sum is a must eat Chinese food in Southern China. You definitely need to try these 11 classic dim sum dishes! I came to Guangzhou to eat Cantonese food, and decided to try the best 11 dim sum dishes here, the home of dim sum!
As I walked into this classic dim sum restaurant in the core of Guangzhou, I was overwhelmed with excitement for all the food I was about to eat! I don't consider myself an expert on how to eat dim sum, but I have eaten my fair share and ordered what I thought were the classic dishes. The dim sum here was some of the best dim sum I have had, although the char siu bao was a little dry, I can still say that I was happy with the flavours and I would love to learn how to cook the dim sum recipe that these chefs use here in Guangzhou. It was truly authentic yum cha that almost anyone will enjoy.
If you're in China for food and travel, I truly suggest coming to Guangzhou to eat this amazing dim sum at the following restaurant location:
Name: 一盅两件
Address: (广州)中山三路108号英德宾馆3楼(近有骨气)
On the third floor!
Whether in Guangzhou or Hong Kong, you must order these classic dishes.
For your information, here are the proper cantonese names of the dishes below so that you can order them when you go to a cantonese restaurant:
#11: Lo Mai Gai
#10: Fung zaau
#9: Lo Bak Go
#8: Ngau juk jyun
#7: Chee Cheong Fun
#6: Ngau Zai Gwat
#5: Dan tat
#4: Fun guo
#3: Cha siu bao
#2: Siu Mai
#1: Har Gow
I hope this is helpful for you the next time you go to eat dim sum! Please leave me a comment down below, it helps a lot.
Thanks again for watching this dim sum food and travel video!

HUGE THANKS to ExpressVPN for offering all Food Ranger viewers 3 months free and 49% off their yearly package using this link: ExpressVPN.com/Thefoodranger . Travelers need ExpressVPN to stay safe online and to unblock any site. I personally use it for Netflix, even while at home in Canada, but also while traveling to unblock content and episodes that are geoblocked, and I also use it for security, because airport wifi and hotel wifi is often very insecure, leaving my data vulnerable. By connecting to one of their servers around the world, it’s just like my computer or phone is in that location, and all data sent while connected to their VPN is secure, safe, and private from others to see, so I know that my data won’t be hacked or looked at by others. Thanks so much for watching, and we have tons more videos coming up for you! Please leave me a comment below letting me know what you thought about this episode, thanks so much!!!

+Quang Tran Awesome man! Hope you get some soon!
Damn ur everwhere
@@thefoodranger I've only had two dim Sum items once when we had Chinese food: Siu Mai and Har Gao (Crystal Shrimp Dumplings)
The grandma sitting beside you must be shocked by your appetite.
The Food Ranger I don’t eat much normally unless I’m eating dim sum
Chinese family mocks you for putting on weight by eating too much but are constantly cooking you dishes 🤣
When in Guangdong my in-laws took me to their favorite dim sum restaurant every morning. Our restaurant has chicken feet but I only eat chicken feet in China. We have most of these dishes but some of them are slightly different. Make sure you get the spicy oil and soybean sauce which go excellent with most dim sum dishes. Xie xie!!!
That old lady is so cute...
the true star of the show :)
You need to respect people...why do you have to ruin a cute thing? Is your soul dead?
lily doepker I am sorry
lily doepker hahaha..
Trevor ... I think it is so wonderful when you interact with the local folks and converse in their language ... Their delighted expressions say it all. Do as much of that as you can ... it adds a completely different dimension to your videos. Thanks again for being such a fine ambassador. Bud Miller over in Texas.
yes Trevors getting so very good at conversing, all he used to say was one exclamation , now he can talk to everyone, but only about food. lol. He can’t say a word about the weather or where is the shoe store lolol.
You make me soooo hungry. I live in Tennessee and finding fresh Chinese food like this would be a blessing. Everything is so Americanized and processed. I am living through you my friend :)
Codie Whaley
If you have a chance to go to Canada (which is closer than China) go to Vancouver in B.C. they have a large Chinese population and all the yummies he's eating here, are there, and just as good.
Also Toronto, Ontario has a huge Chinese population and a great Chinatown filled with all sorts of good restruants. My friend had an epic meal at a Dim Sum place their! I wish I could go!

8: Lo Mai Gai (a meal unto its own!)
7: Dan tat (a great desert dish)
6: Shrimp Chee Cheong Fun (not in hot pot thou)
5: Lo Bak Go (best carrot cake, sort of, in the world!)
4: Fung zaau (my wife's favorite and most women's too for that matters, don't know why)
3: Ngau juk jyun (my kids love'em)
2: Siu Mai
1: Har Gow (everybody's favorite)
+syncmaster915n WOW, Nice list!!
Thanks for using a Cantonese romanization !!
I am British Chinese and, I simply love eating these little platefuls of scrumptious treasures. I could eat them everyday.
Dim sum is life!!! Can't handle the chicken feet but wake me up for any vegetarian version. Especially the custard buns (the fluffy buns with custard and sometimes they have them in piggy design XD). As a vegetarian I loved the different varieties of tofu dishes in China. Would it be possible to show a little more of those? Thanks for the all the food porn anyway, really appreciate it!
+EnterpriseMe TV Hey I'm sorry for the late reply!!! Yeah, those custard buns are off the hood! Yes, I also love tofu, I will be doing more food in Chengdu soon!
Vegetarian version of .... chicken feet? Are you insane? Don't go vegetarian if you are going to ruin authentic (meat) foods by using terrible vegetarian attempts at meat-substitutes.
But we all share your love of dim sum.
I just wanted to tell you that chicken feet are not only used in Chinese cooking, but it's also used in Italian cooking. And I also wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos.
Vancouver has some of the best Chinese Dim Sum in all of Canada, and yes they do serve chicken feet. I am drooling over all the choices you made, my absolute faves are the sticky rice, bbq pork bun, lotus or radish cake and definitely (which you didn't show here) are those insane sesame sweet bean deep fried balls. Great video!
LOL, thank you for saying this. I just saw this video and I'm like, "OF COURSE CANADA HAS CHICKEN FEET!" I live in Chicago and I've had chicken feet every time I've had dim sum here.
Every video Trevor makes needs to hit 1,000,000 his videos are the best so satisfying!👍
Glad you enjoy all of them just like i had before.
Just discovered you today! I'm addicted to your videos. I'm gonna stay up late watching! Can't wait for more!
Hi Olivia! Awesome that's so great to hear!
Great selection of dim sum I've never seen and must try
well done description of each dim sum dish you tried. And impressive Cantonese. Where did you learn it?
Keep up the great work. You deserve your own show!
+rocketman06 haha thanks a lot!!
I love Dim Sum so much. I would eat all of those and order more. Big thumbs up my friend :-)
I am Chinese and I ate great dim sum in Toronto and Vancouver, Canada. Also here in Los Angeles. Chicken feet, I meant phoenix feet, too.
rmwtsou i relate
I’m Chinese and I REALLY enjoy watching you like the dim sum!
I came across your videos about a month ago... I'm now addicted, so now you have fans in New Zealand too ... keep it up bro!!
Awesome thanks a lot buddy!!
hereturikoka 哈哈
Love your explanations! Makes my mouth water...
Great video Trevor! I see you're going cougar hunting now, liking the older ladies! Meow! :D
that's definitely the lack of seats. I saw that first in Hong Kong when we had to wait outside of the cafe cause there was no available seats
Awesome videos! I made the mistake of watching this before lunch and now I have the urge to eat everything in my fridge.
Cantonese food is the best of all China.
Without any doubt
junlin chan opinion
Excuse me? Vote for Sichuan food
not exactly hahaha, it depends on where you come from
I'm canto/taishen but idk, sichuan is pretty competitive haha
Most dim sum experts would consider the har gao to be the pinnacle of dim sum dishes. The skills of a dim sum chef is rated by how good his har gao are.
We do have steamed chicken feet dishes in Vancouver, Canada! You just haven't been looking hard enough :P
okay now im extremely jealous! dim sum is my fav dish!!
+Liam's LunchBox Awesome!!! Dim sum is great, right?
Dude those fried glutinous rice ball with meat inside is one of the best!
+Paul Peh this should of included siu lung bao! Some Cheung fun hmmmm it's waste Sunday and I'm going to go get some dim sum now haha
Love the cute elderly lady behind you and her facial expressions while you were eating
haha yeah she was so nice :) thanks for watching Claude!
I love the cha siu bao as well ;D
So many you left out! Beef tripe. spare ribs in black bean sauce. Cheong fen with shrimp or cha shao. Spring rolls. Sliced cha shao pork. Gai-lan with oyster sauce. There are so many great dishes. I love dim sum.
Hi ! I like your video very much , i'm wondering how did you learned to speak Chinese Language that well . I am Chinese but I find it's very difficult to learn ! .
Hey Justin! I find that getting a language partner is the best way to go. I used italki before and loved it. Just speak as much as you can, and make a lot of mistakes!
The Food Ranger IM JUST LIKE YOUUUU!I LOVE SPICES AND I LOVE NOODLES !!WHICH CITY ARE U IN ? When I eat noodles what do u think I should add to my noodles?
。。。。。感觉在推销,你不会是italki 的口语老师吧,说实话我不是很喜欢来中国的老外
I have a friend who is latino but speaks Chinese perfectly without any accent - he says he just watched a lot of Chinese movies and copied the tones. Perhaps you could try that :)
Justin C q
Also you are very kind with the people in China and other countries im glad to see that!
The Siu Mai looked amazing
That look on your face when you close your eyes to savor the flavor keeps me coming back. Haha.
+freetheoranges haha that's so good to hear, thank you
Great video sir..

These dimsum are making me so hungry!
Hey Querida! Yeah they were so tasty! mmm mmmm, hope you got some dim sum! cheers!
i really like your videos, and this one in particular was so fun. the chinese ladies were so sweet and engaging. it shows you the power of being able to speak the language and the fun little connection you had with them. thanks for making them. you are opening up the world to a lot of people and showing them a sweet side of life that might make people less fearful of others.
I've never seen some of these dim sum. It looks wonderful. Trevor, keep them coming. The radish cakes are my favorite dipped in the sauce. Wonderful!
+Angie L Thanks Angie!!
Yea, I long for dim sum. I wish there were places closer to me to get the authentic kind. So I'll have to make it myself... ( good luck to me ) lol Thank you Trevor.
Hey Lawrence! Yeah! Dim sum is the best! Did you make it yourself?
I just lost it when the woman kept staring at the camera thinking you're going to click the picture and you kept waiting thinking she is gonna take it.. 😂
Such an awkward but really funny moment.
Good recommendations Trevor! This will help me when I go to Shenzhen and Hong Kong this summer :)
+aaron22075 Glad to hear that Aaron!
+aaron22075 No need to wait. You can try out dim sum restaurants in any China town. If possible, ask the Chinese (Cantonese) to recommend a good one though.
I am a huge fan of your videos....Everytime it makes me want to eat more when I watch it... good going!
We absolutely have chicken feet on Dim Sum menus in Canada.
I believe he meant that it's not something that's commonly eaten in Canada or used in traditional Canadian Cuisine. Of course something like Chicken Feet which is a staple in Dim Sum, would be available in a authentic Dim Sum Restaurant in Canada.
because of you am learning now Chinese......just awesome videos ....please keep em coming
"Dripping beef balls"
You made my day lad
+实在哈哈 哈哈
Coucho 😂 food porn
The cheong fun in beef stew looks like comfort food heaven! And the sticky rice in banana leaf, mmmm...great dishes!

Uncle Yip's loves your dim sum videos!!!! 💓
I don't know which part of Canada he's from but I can say on the West Coast we have Chicken Feet. I grew up eating the Chicken Feet soup as a kid.
I have had them in Toronto and Ottawa too. They are not uncommon at all.
ariean rachmat those sound good
We have them in Edmonton and Calgary too
Even have had it in Saskatoon
He's from Vancouver but I think he meant that chicken feet aren't a popular food in Canada. Most Canadians haven't tried them.
Yummm... love dimsums!!!!!! Perfect for dimsum lovers!!!!!!!!!! God bless you!❤
This would be total bliss and food heaven. I envy you. Is this Mandarin you're speaking?
+K Noeth Hey K, Yep, that's mandarin :) Many in the south can switch to mandarin for me luckily :)

Chinese saying, eat at Guangzhou. Guangzhou has the best Cantonese food.
Cantonese cuisine is the most famous of all regional Chinese cuisines. There is a famous Chinese saying -- eat in Guangzhou. There are a lot more dim sum dishes like rice porridges of different sorts and lai cheung or of different sorts. I love my hometown Guangzhou. Glad you like Cantonese food so much and enjoy Chinese civilization so much.
I just discovered your channel . Dude you're ahmazing! That's so cool you know how to speak more than one language. Please visit Vietnam!
Cutie Meow Trevor is pretty good with the Vietnamese language. I saw him speaking one time.
I have expanded my Chinese cooking skills a lot with by watching your videos over and over as a reference and then looking up the dishes in books and websites. Gracy Toy Schultz we have those in England. I didn't know they were Chinese.
The pastry is much lighter and flakier than the English ones. And you are correct, they are not Chinese. They were introduced into Macau by the Portuguese.

Canada has chicken feet...
Hey Neja! yep for sure! I was just speaking about in western cuisine whether we eat them or not! Hope you enjoyed the video!
Its called TnT Supermarket and at any butcher. I know because i am one in Edmonton.
But chicken feet is not featured in any North American cuisine.
Obviously he's not a frequent visitor of Richmond BC or Markham ON.
Neja888888 mm.
I love how you embrace all types of food...well done proud of you and your Chinese is really good! x
