This is the most beautiful cover of any song I've ever heard in my 44 years of existence. He made it his own, and he made it ours. Not only did Tillman capture Cohen's essence, but being from Montreal, he captured our cities soul.
I disagree. Always disliked that line. The image of a spirit drooling just sounds forced. I think Misty must also feel it's a clunker, so he dropped it.
@@leewohlfert5462 Actually I sing recite this song every now and again and that's the line always lose. For the life of me I just can't fucking remember it.
I lit a thin green candle to make you jealous of me, But the room just filled up with mosquitoes, they heard that my body was free Then I took the dust of a long sleepless night and I put it in your little shoe And then I confess that I tortured the dress that you wore for the world to look through I showed my heart to the doctor. He said I'd just have to quit Then he wrote himself a prescription, your name was mentioned in it Then he locked himself in a library shelf with the details of our honeymoon And I hear from the nurse that he's gotten much worse and his practice is all in a ruin I heard of a saint who had loved you, I studied all night in his school He taught that the duty of lovers is to tarnish the golden rule And just when I was sure that his teachings were pure he drowned himself in the pool His body is gone but back here on the lawn his spirit continues to drool An Eskimo showed me a movie he'd recently taken of you The poor man could hardly stop shivering, his lips and his fingers were blue I suppose that he froze when the wind tore off your clothes And I guess he just never got warm, but you stand there so nice in your blizzard of ice Oh please let me come into the storm
This is 3 years old, but Father John Misty's songs, especially from his album "Fear Fun" or "Pure Comedy" sound a bit like this. The distinct screaming in this song can be heard in bits throughout Fear Fun, but nowhere near this intensity.
Edward Sherriff except leonards version of one of us cannot be wrong is the best out there. theres something personal about his that no one can “fake” tho john mistys version is by far the closest and im not mad nor surprised that people prefer his over lc
Where are all this studio quality cover songs coming from!!? This and "trouble" both sound like studio recordings.... Anyone know where they come from?
Patrick Chole This one is from a compilation of recorded Leonard Cohen covers, so it's studio quality. He does a lot of covers on radio shows, which aren't studio recordings but still really high quality.
Wait holy shit this was a Leonard Cohen song??? I thought Gregory Isakov wrote THIS and went on to write nothing remotely as good for the rest of his career. No wonder.

Ton commentaire est tout aussi réjouissant🧘♂️
FJM is from Maryland
@@Elisanmusic I'm very aware. I'm from Montreal, like Cohen was.
Ah your wording could be interpreted both ways, I see I misunderstood. Cheers.
One of the most amazing covers I've ever heard. Can't stop listening.
Same here.. can you recomend some of the other covers you find amazing?
check gregory alan isakov same song
That scream in the end... Gets me every time 😢
This is great for when the radio makes you forget what music should be.
I agree this is the real spirit of the song, really moving. L.C. would agree.
this version completes any song I've ever looked for ever in my past or future
Came across this song so haphazardly...i'm so glad it happened.
So great but left out the best line: “His body is gone, but back here on the lawn, his spirit continues to drool”

@@leewohlfert5462 Boooo!

He added it in the Anthem +3 Version. It really sounds as if it was added later.
This is an authentically emotional performance. ohhhhh gooood daaaaamn.
one of the most profound songs about heartbreak ever written. most of the rest of the list were also penned by cohen.
one of the most apt and meaningful covers ever made. fjm gets it and makes it work. damn.
I lit a thin green candle to make you jealous of me,
But the room just filled up with mosquitoes, they heard that my body was free
Then I took the dust of a long sleepless night and I put it in your little shoe

I showed my heart to the doctor. He said I'd just have to quit
Then he wrote himself a prescription, your name was mentioned in it
Then he locked himself in a library shelf with the details of our honeymoon
And I hear from the nurse that he's gotten much worse and his practice is all in a ruin
I heard of a saint who had loved you, I studied all night in his school
He taught that the duty of lovers is to tarnish the golden rule
And just when I was sure that his teachings were pure he drowned himself in the pool
His body is gone but back here on the lawn his spirit continues to drool
An Eskimo showed me a movie he'd recently taken of you
The poor man could hardly stop shivering, his lips and his fingers were blue
I suppose that he froze when the wind tore off your clothes
And I guess he just never got warm, but you stand there so nice in your blizzard of ice
Oh please let me come into the storm
how can you hear this shit and not weep and laugh at the same time???
I knew I heard the original much much earlier recognizable from the screaming at the end. love this version. RIP Leonard
Love this song ❤
Such a great cover, love this song and Father John Misty! :)
He slayed on this tribute.
This is the most sensational shit I've ever heard.
It's one of the best fucking songs ever written.
Much Soul indeed.
One Of Us Cannot Be Wrong in Death of a Ladies Man's style.
this makes a lot of sense
It’s one of my all time favorite albums. I wish Leonard appreciated it more
nailed it.
you pretty much described the whole Josh Tillman carrer
JT nailed this-so f*****g good.
it's so perfect
Unreal.
I want this at my funeral
Jesus, I'm in love
Que coisa mais linda!
Demais.
Incredible cover
GREAT !
This is amazing. Nobody else could do a better cover.
Estaxiada! Como não ouvi isso antes.
amazing
Nightmares are made of Misty.
Heart piercing Blue...!..
oh Wow!
So cool!
fuck me, this is amazing
Mira Al Pacino los covers que ha motivado!
Cuánto queremos a Leonard!!!!
MISTY LIVES!
This version fucking slays me! I dare say it moves me more than Cohen's...
I must admit that i agree. It takes the passion of the original and brings it to another
+Greywillow73 CRAZY TALK. Its neat but nowhere near Cohens version shame on you.
+Greywillow73 The 'wailing' at the end gets me every time, as if his heart were being torn from his chest
+Jim Morrison agreed!
+JOE BLOW shame on you
I was under the assumption that Leonard took the form of Misty after he died.
No, B.....
He took the form of a skeleton.
naw. his spirit broke into billions of little pieces and entered all of us. it's our only hope.
I think I'm in love with everyone in this comment section.
Stop crying your heart out
i can't.
May just be the recording, just had trouble understanding lyrics on this version. Love Cohen. RIP
I want to hear more songs that 'sound' like this. Any suggestions?
+Anuja Singh Do research

This is the Jeff Buckley of hallelujah
Edward Sherriff except leonards version of one of us cannot be wrong is the best out there. theres something personal about his that no one can “fake” tho john mistys version is by far the closest and im not mad nor surprised that people prefer his over lc
basses atta I just meant to say the song took another form of life again as Jeff Buckley did with hallelujah
No that would be Harvey Milk cover of One of us cannot be wrong.
I'm a huge Leonard Cohen fan and this is one of the best covers I've heard. He paid the man some respect with this one.
heartbroken and sick
Replay, again.
♥
I'm not a great fan of Cohen's music, but I do like this. Misty's got soul.
You guys should try Gregory Alan Isakov's version, i swear by it!
Gabs Bowman not as good
The Lower Depths May 2022
Women right? : )
So he made this in 2012??😂

Production's pretty good.
glad he got back to singing in tune. lots of his post fleet foxes in Austin was rough!
Rebecca W Man, you're just a wonderful person, aren't you?
Wait holy shit this was a Leonard Cohen song??? I thought Gregory Isakov wrote THIS and went on to write nothing remotely as good for the rest of his career. No wonder.
Practice is all in ruins
Cohen's version sounds like a demo compared to this.
No No No
Too much echo on the drum
I think it's hideous. Ruins a great song.
