As a white male aged 18-25, I'm actually kinda pissed I'm only learning about the women behind the US space program in adulthood. School failed me.
Yes
RagnarokNCC I agree. I don't know about the requirements in your state but I grew up in Tennessee and I remember very little about women in history period. Being a young woman that is sad. Our educational system in the U.S. is lacking so much.
Don't feel bad. School also failed over 60 million Americans, who thought that they needed to Make America Great Again.
RagnarokNCC there are so many more hidden history about this country. Please watch the documentary called hidden colors if you haven't yet. I promise you , you will learn a lot about the true history of America
SecretaryOfState, Touché!
It's a fucking scandal Octavia Spencer doesn't get shed loads more work. If I was a writer I contrive anything to get her on my show!
I appreciate her diplomatic answer to "why haven't I heard this story before?" We all know why you haven't heard it before, Stephen. Aside from that, I'm really looking forward to this film.
Edward Kelly What do you mean
@@stxfdt1240 Well the Easter Bunny had a hate on for space so he did everything he could to make sure this story wouldn't be told.
Octavia's really pretty !
Rhev 1001 at least you're not pretending to be an idiot
People have different taste, you dip.
I love her smile a lot!
I think she gets better at age and I’m being truthful, maybe it’s confidence or just maturity but I find her more attractive now
Compared to what
Octavia should do more comedy - and with Melissa McCarthy.
I want to see a comedy staring Octavia, Melissa and Allison Janney; they're all friends and they've all worked with each other but I don't think all together at once.
Luv them both here too. Why hasn't. Made a film of them together? Maybe Tyler Perry?
So, what do you think of Thunder Force?
@@dee_lulu Thunderforce as a movie sucked because Ben Falcone is not a good filmmaker, Octavia and Allison are Oscar winners and Melissa is a 2 time Oscar Nominee so , the script and direction has to be top notch like Jason Reitman, Diablo Cody or Yorgos Lanthamos type who can mix the comedy and drama in an intelligent and palpably palatable way
That headline really undermines the real conversation :(
Yes it does. I am surprised that not more people know this. I am only 29 and I've known about this from HS.
Exactly what I was going to comment. Of all the important and interesting things this woman said - let's highlight that she likes meatloaf.... smh.
Considering only about 1 minute or less was about the meatloaf thing, it really does undermine this great story in the interview. I agree it is an odd choice for the title
Anyone intelligent enough to realize that the headline undermines the real conversation, was not the intended target of the headline. I suspect that the headline was meant to be somewhat of a click bait for the Melissa McCarthy fan-base, who could care less about a racial piece.
And conversation ending.
Stephen totally missed a great pun after the movie clip. Her giggle after the moment her character was offered a slice of pie was priceless! I bet she'll never feel the same again about eating a stranger's pie, lol
I can't wait for this movie to come out! Octavia Spencer only does quality cinema.
She's such a great actress!
Ryian Johnson-Fleming umm Divergent.
She was in a episode of TBBT, she was Woking at the DMV. I remembered her because I thought she was the best actor in the scene.
*She was stunning in Hidden Figures, with her signature flair and also a certain subtlety she only could bring to a movie.*
Octavia Spencer's Holiday Food: Miss Hilly's Special Pie.
Omg yassss with that special manure
The first programmer was a women Ada (Lovelace) Byron. She started writing code for a difference engine that hadn't even been built yet. She's the mother of computer programming, not just women who code
Octavia always looks so well put together. Those shoes are awesome. Love her style.
Teresa Weaver they were great shoes!
What an awesome story.
Octavia is lovely. Glad she gets to tell this story!
Of course Sookie makes the BEST meatloaf!
Love Octavia Spencer, she's so talented!! Can't wait to see Hidden Figures!
Ada Lovelace is the mother of women who code. Actually, for that matter, she is the mother of everyone who codes.
I (respectfully) disagree. Ada just figured out how to code herself. She never taught anyone else how to do it because, at the time, they couldn't even build the machine. She might be the inventor of coding, but Dorothy Vaughan not only discovered how to code on an actual machine, she taught others how to do it as well. It doesn't take anything away from Ada Lovelace, because what Ada Lovelace did was just as extraordinary - possibly more so, as she had no way to actually test her code on a machine, yet it worked anyway.
Jamie M Ada invented the language. Dorothy learned something someone else already invented. The difference is very big.
Yeah it is.
Ada birthed the code, but Dorothy birthed the first generation of women who were actually coding.
Aren't the ENIAC programmers the first generation of women coders? Maybe even the first generation of coders, period.
I LOOVVVEEEE YOU OCTAVIA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My favorite Octavia Spencer bit was her appearance on The Big Bang Theory. In 2 minutes, she accomplished what in 10 seasons of the show, hardly anyone has accomplished: she upstaged the amazing, multi-award winning Jim Parsons in a scene! That's a great actress right there!
I loved her in that episode! I first saw her on Wizards of Waverly Place when I was a kid, it's so awesome she's now a household name with an Oscar and two other nominations after so many years of guest-starring and bit roles. I actually got to see her speak at a college and she was just so engaging and humble and wonderful.
Better headline: *Hidden Figures.*
She's so talented and lovely!
She seems like a very happy person
Gemma Pettersen Yeah she has a really peaceful smile.
A gifted actress - love her and her work!
Octavia is adorable! She is funny and humble and a great actress. Hidden Figures should be shown in our schools...my only regret is that history is always HIS story and women are always erased/silenced or hidden...we need more HER stories!
You already have a slice of pie.a nod to The Help. Lol
6:13 that was a nice scene from the movie =)
What a lovely personality she has !
I love that Octavia Spencer loves meatloaf, my daughter Octavia loves it too! I also love that my Octavia has such an awesome role model.
I can't wait to see this movie!!!
For a moment, I imagined the singer, Meatloaf drifting in space...
Buenomars He won't do that.
Vamanos Ninja no he won't do that
She was amazing in Snowpiercer
This movie sounds fascinating! Watched this clip cause I love Octavia but now I need to add seeing this to the agenda.
She's so nice! And classy.
Should be a standard showing of that movie by 7th grade. Excellent.
She's such a gem! I adore Octavia.
Before the Help, Octavia was in Halloween 2 (2007) Ugly Betty. Been a fan before she won that oscar. Luv ya MA
Right with you there Octavia! I might go to space once its commonplace, you know when people regularly "commute" to Mars or the moon on a regular basis and take it for granted the way we treat a ride on the bus then maybe I'll visit.
Octavia Spencer!!!!!
She's so pretty 😍
FYI, in the clip from 'Hidden Figures', the officer who walks up is Mahershala Ali from 'Luke Cage', there's Octavia, the woman with the glasses' is Taraji P. Henson and the small woman on the end in the light green dress is(and I was floored when I figured this out) Janelle Monae!!!!! She can act, too?????? Damn!!! PS a reason why these women's heroics wasn't more widely disseminated might be that they were in the South(Florida) in the 60's when stories like these were regularly buried.
She’s Beautiful! Great actress! Love Her!
I love this video as much as Octavia loves meatloaf!
I love when she does comedy
Great movie and not just for feminist. Says a lot about how through exposure to one another we really can over come our social barriers.
I wish they showed a clip of them at NASA.
Not to disparage the convo, but the music when she was being introduced was dope.
Funny.. 'cause I love Meatloaf's Jenny McCarthy collection.. funny ol' world.
Octavia Spencer day is my birthday!!! 💕Fun!🎉 Octavia, Melissa and I turn 50 this year-would be celebration goals to party together! 😃
Wouldn't be logical, that shortening 'mathematics', is spelt and written as 'maths', not "math?
That's how they do it in Britain. It's a dialect thing.
jojobovine
It is not just in Britain! It is grammatically incorrect no matter where you are.
There isn't a singular 'mathematic', if written as a singular word, every spell checker , shows an error.
Just a shortening of a longer word: US pragmatism and easier pronunciation, tho' maybe etymogically incorrect. Same as in dropping the useless u in British colour, etc. Different strokes and natural language evolution. We shoulda tagged along when they finally went metric.
i love her!
Similar story in late 19th c. early 20th c when photos from telescopes allowed much more detailed examination of the night skies. Some professor tried getting his university students to count and locate the stars (for pay) but they were neither diligent nor accurate. I think he wound up having his house servant pinch hit; she was an educated woman not allowed in the 'normal' workforce (i.e. a position out in a man's world commensurate with her skills). She did so well, he got himself a whole team of women who did a fantastic job which still serves today. And, with great effort and perserverance, he also managed to get these women somewhat publicly recognized, a real feat for the times. Though still not their real due nor into mainstream consciousness of general or scientific history, where I hope these NASA women get their rightful place and credit .
Octavia doesn't want to be a pioneer she just plays them in movies 🎥 :)
Don't let your meat, loaf.
Make colored computers great again!
Tang is the shit.
Such a short interview
"Octavia Spencer Loves Melissa McCarthy's Meatloaf"
She sure do.
does.
Stephen, stop asking stupid question. You know exactly why Americans don't know about these women.
please stop spamming my subbox and just post the full episodes
Ironic considering cryogenics is less developed than space travel.
Colbert can eat the eat his own sh*t. This place is no different then the lies and crying of CNN. - unsubscribed
Noneshere lol oh no. You unsubscribed. Guess they'll shut the show down now.
+Noneshere What exactly are you pissed off about?
what is meatloaf in ITA please
In my day if you passed University level Statistics you were likely doing your prof........true story..well....if it's not.... it should be....sigh
If you go to the cryptology museum near Fort Meade Maryland you will see the pictures of these women hanging they've been hanging for at least a decade or more it's not an Untold Story it's a story that doesn't take precedence
*you colluded with Hillary Clinton what a surprise!*
smh who cares
and surprise has 2 r's in it
blarblablarblar thanks I'll fix that.
SHE KNOWS ABOUT TANG IN SPACE!!!!!!!! 8:16
Could a native speaker explain to me why nobody says actress anymore? Whatever show I watch nowadays it is always the famous actor when a female guest is announced. Is this just some weird PC thing or what am I missing? Thx guys...
political correctness/feminism. Some feminists say the term 'actress' is seen as inferior to 'actor' and that both genders should sit side-by-side. Therefore, it is 'female actor' and 'male actor'
Thx... :)
Just like nobody says "writeress" or "runneress". English occupation nouns are gender free to begin with (not so in many other languages), so making them gendered with "ess" is pretty pointless.
An interesting example of a word nobody's really gendered is "senator". I mean, has anyone ever heard someone say "senatress"? I never have. But linguistics - it's all just a bumbling jumble of quirks.
Whoopie said im a actor not a actress and all roles at one point were played by men even in a female role except peter pan lol
Second!
first one
I always mix her up with Sherri Shepherd
Who is she
Stephen, deep down you must know that people love you and respect you because you spent so much time telling the truth and making fun of it. this format does not suit you at all its sad to watch a genius waste such talent. you have to have guest on that know nothing now and that band is weak and boring for tv. sorry but the truth is the truth
Abel Molina Uh, what? "Sad," "weak," and "boring" aren't factual words, they're feelings, go read the definition of truth and opinion dude.
I can say you sound unintelligent and that's the truth and surely you'd disagree with me. They're talking about actual, proven history here. You know...the actual truth. Jeez what the hell happened to our country.
