Thank you very much Carl, I really appreciate your opinion. I was very pleased with how this came out, the end grain holly is rock hard and polishes up very well. Cheers, Jim
A beautiful bowl. I enjoy watching you using Milliput to really enhance your projects. I am practice so I can try some projects using Milliput. Keep up the good work.
It's a nice looking bowl. It reminds me of a salad bowl that we used to have back in the late '60's , early '70's. Of courage that was in hard plastic. Ah, bygones. . . . .
I just found your channel and had to subscribe. Awesome work my friend! I look forward to watching the rest of your videos. One of these days I need to get my garage cleaned and get my lathe out of the box and get some turning done. Thanks for sharing! Jon
Thanks for another stunner Jim. Thanks also for introducing me to Milliput which I use a lot and not only for wood turning. I have a vegetable allotment and a few days ago my neighbouring gardener found that his plastic rain water butt had cracked at the bottom. I came to the rescue and fixed it with Milliput thus saving him about £40. Your likeness to Mike W is quite uncanny:-). Have a great weekend at UKIS. Best, Alan.
Thank you very much Alan. I hope you are keeping well, sounds like you can't make UKIWS. Milliput is fantastic for repairs, I repaired a bird bath with it recently. Cheers, Jim.
Another stunning bowl. I always think you must have immense patience at the squidging stage - I fear I would get impatient and end up rushing and leaving gaps. I think I shall stick to watching the videos!
Thank you very much. Yes it did take a while to do the squidging, Milliput has a long working time but I was pushing it a bit with this one, especially as it was a hot day and it was setting faster than usual. Cheers, Jim
Thank you very much Bram. Work gets right in the way of shop time. It's also been a bit too blooming hot lately !! Are you going to UKIWS ? Cheers, Jim
Hello Jim , No mate I shall not be going, as much as I would like to go I just don't like driving anymore and will soon be giving up the car completely. Cheers mate, Bram
@Jimson Stuff I think I'm going to finally start a milliput project! Should be finished in a day or two. Thank you so much for your videos, they are a wonderful source of information and entertainment.
Top banana!!! Purchased some Milliput after watching your videos. Can't wait for it to arrive so I can get experimenting. Keep up the excellent work. :-)
Thank you very much Chris, Milliput is very versatile and gives great results, make sure you mix it thoroughly and give it plenty of time to set. Cheers, Jim
great video Jim mate. love this bowl. I have to get my Milliput out I think . Cant wait for next week, should be a great meet up and show. all the best Nick
Great looking bowl Jim, holy looks amazing in black Miliput. I have tickets for both days to UKIWS, but hotel too expensive so only Saturday for me. See you there. Thanks for shoutout. Keep on making
Great job as always Jim. Simply love your videos and the excellent narration. Keep up the good work, I'm looking forward to another one soon I hope. Certainly easier said than done I'm sure. Take care. Cheers from Colorado.
I’ve never heard of ‘wood turning’ . It just caught my eye on UA-cam and I wanted a ‘look-see’. My husband has made wooden pen cases before, but I never knew how it was done. Never thought to ask either lol. It’s quite an art and beautiful! If my arms were a bit stronger I’d give to give it a go myself, but I get satisfaction from watching. Thank you for posting your turns! 😁
great video, glad i stumbled upon your channel, interesting stuff and your relaxing to watch/listen to. im looking forward to seing what else you have on your channel
Thanks again Hank, I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. I will hopefully get a bit more time to make some more videos soon. Cheers, Jim
Absolutely stunning Jim, and it looks better in the flesh mate. Had a great time with you at UKIWS, but I think you need to work on your drinking capacity, as I feel it is a little lacking!!! ;) Cheers mate Mike
Thank you very much Mike. UKIWS was fantastic, I don't know why you made me drink so much though !! Still recovering now ! We will have to meet up again soon mate. Cheers Jim
Masterful job!! You have again gotten me into the Milliput mood. Thanks. Where do you find/purchase holly wood like you have shown here??? Whenever I go looking I end up at exotic wood shops where all I can get are maybe 1 1/2 ft. to 2 ft. pieces maybe 3/4 inch X 3 or 4 inches. If I go to a name brand shop, a piece for a pen blank often requires a bank loan for just ONE pen's worth!!! When I went to try to grow my own all I could find were holly bushes...not the best place to find the long pieces you were hiding in your shop!!! Since I've retired I shave once/month whether I need to or not..... (Life is too short otherwise. Shaving for over 40 years just to have a job...well... that was enough.) My frequency rule includes not even shaving for church on Sundays...….. :>)
Thank you very much Steven. I was lucky to find a lot of small holly bushes and trees that had been cut down in forest clearance a few years ago. The holly branches had been stacked for burning so I managed to rescue a few. I have gradually used them all up on various carving, turning and walking stick projects. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch my videos. Cheers Jim
Thank you very much Michael, yes holly is lovely to use, I have done several carvings in it and it polishes very well. I always use Chestnut Products sanding sealer, I dilute it slightly using their cellulose thinners ( approx 4:1 sealer:thinners ) cheers, Jim
Thank you very much, yes you can add pigment to white milliput when mixing. I have done lots of experiments with this and I have found that it is best to mix pure pigment powder into a slow set epoxy resin to form a thick paste and then knead this into the milliput. It is a messy job and be careful which pigment powder you use as some are highly toxic. Cheers, Jim.
Thank you very much Bill. No I’m not sponsored by Robert Sorby, I tend to say what tools I’m using as I’ve found people like to know, otherwise I tend to get asked in the comments. I’m not actually paid by any tool companies for my video work. I get some tools sent to me for free or at a discount, these tools may make an appearance if I like them. Many thanks for watching Cheers Jim
I love using Milliput on small projects, but find the cost of the product these days - Jan 2021 - to be very cost prohibitive. A look on Amazon today shows it at $20.00 per box. I’m guessing it took two or three tubes of the product for this project.
glad you have tried Milliput, thankfully it is much cheaper here in the UK. I can’t remember how many packs I used but I would guess 2. you can get away with less by creating shallower inlay recesses but you then have to be careful not to overcut it when finishing
Lovely work Jim. Could you please tell me where you got or who made your branding iron and logo as I would like my own for my own woodturnings. Andy H.
Thank you very much Andrew. I ordered the brass stamp rom Hong Kong via eBay and I show how I converted it into a stamp in the video called Tales from the Workshop. I can't remember who the seller was now, it may have been Bidabuli or similar. Cheers, Jim
Thank you very much Vincent. Hopefully UA-cam have fixed the thumbnail issue now but the video also changed from public to private for a while without me doing anything !! I suspect I have lost a lot of views through this. Cheers, Jim
bonsoir avez vous eux des retour sur le milliput quand le bois est mouillé car moi j'ai eu des surprise sur mes assiette le milliput a fendu . comment avez vous fait pour qu'il tienne après lavage a l'éponge?
WOW!! That's awesome Jim!!
Thank you very much Carl, I really appreciate your opinion. I was very pleased with how this came out, the end grain holly is rock hard and polishes up very well. Cheers, Jim

Very innovative. I love this technique. You are a true master! Also I've added "palaver" to my vocabulary.
Thank you very much Jimmie for your very kind words. Yep, palaver is a great word and sums up much of what I do ! Cheers, Jim
Another stunning bowl. I always think you must have immense patience at the squidging stage - I fear I would get impatient and end up rushing and leaving gaps. I think I shall stick to watching the videos!

Jimson's Stuff yes mate, got one here with your name on it... well it's actually got YG on it but you know what I mean lol

I love working with Holly! Great job and beautiful bowl! BTW, do you mix your own sanding sealer? What do you use? and thanks
Thank you very much Michael, yes holly is lovely to use, I have done several carvings in it and it polishes very well. I always use Chestnut Products sanding sealer, I dilute it slightly using their cellulose thinners ( approx 4:1 sealer:thinners )

As the wood heats up doesit ever set alight as you turn it?
No never had that problem, in theory it is possible and I suspect that it has happened.
Cheers

Great video and a beautiful bowl. Just wondering, is it possible to add coloring pigment when you mix the milliput?
Thank you very much, yes you can add pigment to white milliput when mixing. Sorry about the broken thumbnail, can't seem to fix it !!!
Lovely work Jim. Could you please tell me where you got or who made your branding iron and logo as I would like my own for my own woodturnings. Andy H.

What's the sanding sealer? Can you buy it or is it something you mix? Thanks
Hi Shane , I use Chestnut Products Cellulose sanding sealer. Cheers, Jim
This has a decidedly Mid-Century look to it.
Yes , I was very pleased with how it came out. Cheers, Jim
Do you sell anything small on Etsy?
Can I colour miliput?
Yes you can colour white Milliput using pigment and resin but it is a messy job and difficult to achieve much more than a pastel shade.
👍🏻
Thank you very much. Cheers, Jim
👍👍👍
Thank you very much. Cheers, Jim
I would love to buy something small off you via Etsy?
Thank you very much Irene. I will hopefully be listing some items on Etsy soon.
